Advancements in Technology During World War Two

Continual advancements in technology were mandatory to maintain a competitive edge over the enemy in World War II. Whether you were and Axis or Ally power Technology was a grave concern for your war tactics. The WWII era gave birth to a great number of technological changes which affected weaponry, radar, and the Strategies used.
One of the most important technological innovations during World War II was the upgrades to war vehicles. The high demand for mobilizing troops efficiently during the war gave rise to advancements in tanks including increased speed, armor and firepower. One of the most significant upgrades was the invention of the DUKW, an amphibious war machine that aided in the allies invasion of Normandy, France. Along with innovations to tanks, ships also received significant upgrades. Aircraft carriers were now equipped with stronger artillery that could fire on enemy ships at longer distances. Shockingly most of the ships that were used during the war were ships from the First World War just with additions to them. The most important advances came in the aviation fields. In a war that moved from ground fighting to aerial attacks aircraft development was crucial. The installation of bombsight technology to airplanes also made them more effective in battle. It made bombing a more accurate form of attack on specific targets like aircraft carriers and destroyer ships. The building of faster, lighter, and more mobile aircrafts was a huge goal for both sides of the war. Especially to Hitler who used the Tausendfussler (Millipede) in his Luftwaffe air force. The upgrades to planes allowed for Hitler to bomb cities he invaded and it gave him astonishing success to his blitzkrieg strategy.

Now with tanks and planes being lighter and more mobile militaries were able to mobilize vast amounts of soldiers to areas needed and provide them with constant air support. Also, radar made military leaders re-think the idea of a straight on attack. Instead of coming right at an opposing force leaders of militaries started to go around their targets and attempt to sneak attack them as Japan did at Pearl Harbor and Germany when it took over France.
The development and advancement of technology over the generations has had a bizarre affect on not only our everyday lives, but more specifically on our militaries. It has increased the ability of Nations to serve and defend the ones they have sworn to protect. It truly shows how the World War II era gave birth to technologies that affected weaponry, radar, and tactics used to fight a war.
