Since the beginning of man, humans have adapted to their environment by creating tools; some of the earliest being stones and sticks to the introduction of the wheel, in which all were purposed to make life more efficient. Yet there are those who believe that some revolutionary innovations have actually hindered humankind more than helped. However, these pessimist are faulty since even mistakes made in the technological world have still led to unexpected breakthroughs and in turn their positive effects outweigh their negative ones. Evidently, advancements in technology are made simply to facilitate the survival of humans therefore it is clearly beneficial to society and its growth.

Technology can also tribute for progress made in the medical world. Cures to diseases, early detection and single incision surgery are among the many life saving advancements made possible by technology. For instance in 3rd world countries like Africa, new knowledge in the field of mechanical engineering has allowed for the creation of efficient and cheap water filters that will easily help prevent numerous lives (Document A). Some fear that the rapid evolution of technology, especially in the workforce, will become too much and there will no longer be a need for human labor at all. This seemingly irrational fear of robots and other futuristic developments is as obscure as one may think. Progress in engineering has allowed for robots, drones, and even self driving cars to soon become a thing of the present. Amazon has already tested the use of drones for shipping purposes was successful in doing so. Amazon has also made advancements in other aspects of consumerism as well, specifically in their new checkout free grocery store called Amazon Go. These stores will be completely checkout free which means no need to wait on line and no need for cashiers. As their trial stores has recently released panic has been spreading throughout the globe. If this works out will there no longer be a need for cashiers in grocery stores? or no need for cashiers at all? Some fast food chains have already eliminated cashiers completely and now just have simple touch screen menu options, which has been tremendously profitable. The robots are taking over!!! This is the idea that Kevin Kelly stresses and elaborates on in his article “Better than Human:Why Robots Will-and must-Take Our Jobs”. The article focuses on automation in the workplace and how most of the jobs that are currently done by humans will be taken over by robots in the future. Kelly believes that this is inevitable and that it is a positive thing. While I believe that most of our jobs will be taken over in the future, I do not think that Kelly did a great job at trying to prove his point and his argument was mediocre.
Imagine a world where you couldn’t connect to your family and friends immediately through a phone call or text message, but instead had to send them a letter that could take weeks, or even months until they received it. Imagine a world where if you needed to look something up you had to walk to the library and look it up in a book, instead of going onto the internet. Imagine a world with no televisions, and only radios. Imagine a world where only the rich had cars, and everyone else had to walk everywhere. This is what life was like in the 1900’s, and why I believe that technology is the greatest advancement since then.
From the first spears clumsily thrown at unsuspecting birds, to the iPhones we use as expensive flashlights to find the light switch, humanity’s been coming up with things that make our lives easier and easier. These inventions have shaped our very existence. They’ve brought us from being cave-dwelling, raw meat-eating Neanderthals to the top of the food chain. Then, after we conquered the elements, we set about conquering everything else. We made tasks that would normally take several days to complete take just a few hours. We shaped the land to suit our needs. And all the while, inventions were the source of our newfound power.
The human race is held ransom; there is no escape root by its own creation. The rate at which technological advancement happens is alarming. There is no knowing where this frenzy will end and what remains is the painful fact that unless something decisively courageous is done to halt this obsession, humanity faces an imminent obliteration by its own creations – technology.

Machines are made to calculate, capture and store images. Machines are also made to help make individual's lives easier and more efficient. For instance, we are able to keep records of our financial transactions through computers. Also, we are now able to communicate to other individuals from different countries because of technology. As technology advances, some individuals are considering machines to have qualities like human beings, such as a conscious and the structure of the human body. However, can machines really have a conscious like humans? Similarly, Alan Turing and John Searle both debated whether machines have a conscious or not. This discussion will be based upon the explanation of Turing and Searle and why I believe machines cannot have a conscious.

Contrary to God, technology is an evil force. A special ignorance within the assumption that “imperfections” should or can be designed out of existence. Imperfections are a crucial part of what makes us creative and ethically responsible in the first place. “Blinded by the awesomeness of our tools, we might forget that some problems and imperfections are just normal costs of accepting the social contract of living with other human beings, treating them with dignity, and ensuring that, in our recent pursuit of a perfect society we do not shut off the door to change.”
