Introduction:

Attention Getter: I believe it’s safe to say that everyone in this room wants to do something meaningful with their lives. And what is more meaningful than saving multiple life’s at once? According to the Human Society of the United States in the article titled Top reasons to adopt a pet they state “Each year, 2.7 million adoptable dogs and cats are euthanized in the United States, simply because too many pets come into shelters and too few people consider adoption when looking for a pet.”

III. Puppy mills are the worst thing that could exist in the animal planet. They are cruel and need to be stopped.
A. You may be wondering, what is a puppy mill? Well, let me enlighten you. A puppy mill is a large-scale commercial dog breeding facility where profit is given priority over the well-being of the dogs. They are overcrowded in filthy living conditions, without the proper vet care, water, and socialization. It sounds awful doesn’t it? Here are some photos of what their houses look like, as you can see, this is no way a dog should be living. And you might be thinking back to where you got your pet, was it from a shelter? Or did you get it at a store? If you got it from the store, unknowingly you are supporting the continuation of Puppy mills. According to Dr. Jim Turpel and Dr. Angela Granacki from the article titled Ignorance plays big role in survival of puppy mills: they state “The first and by far the most common reason is one of ignorance.” Most people will want to believe what they want to believe and no one wants to believe that they are supporting puppy mills.
