Without going into a detailed history timeline, condoning Hitler, and trying to remain apolitical, I submit that the path of nihilism, ethnocentrism, and hatred was one that took years and was reinforced by several accomplishments on military, political, and legal fronts. Hitler came into power in the 1933 and by 1934 had complete control - unrestrained by constitutional controls. Hitler did not have the majority vote for his sweeping changes referendum in 1934, but by 1938, he accomplished several key military objectives that were very popular and gained the confidence of the German people. It is estimated that by 1938 90% of the German people supported the Führer. His propaganda and accomplishments such as overthrowing the Treaty of Versailles, expansion of the Reich to incorporate ethnic Germans in Austria, raising production and the national economy, politically uniting Germany, and rearming it militarily were resonating with the German people. My point is that the lead up to the ensuing atrocities was paved with skillful leadership and control tactics.
