If you were convicted of a murder what would you do? Adnan Syed was convicted of the murder of Hae. The motive was said to be a “ bad break up” but not everything adds up. This story is interesting because his friend Jay Wilds testified against him, Jay said he helped bury her but Jay didn't get any charges. There are a lot of twists and turn in this case but Adnan is definitely innocent of the murder of hae because here is no physical evidence on him and he has an alibi.
To begin, There was no physical evidence putting Adnan as the killer. Adnan does not have any physical evidence on him. They did not have a witness or his fingerprints on Hae’s body. There were epithelial cells on a glass, there was a rope, and there were fibers near the body
yet, none of those things were tested. (So it can’t be proved that they were Adnan’s). This means he couldn't have strangled her with his bare hands like they said. They did not test the rope or fibers so that could lead to someone who is Adnan. Why is the lack of evidence not considered by the jury as much as it should? Secondly, He has an alibi. If he had an alibi how did he get caught? That might be something know one will ever know. Adnan said himself “ i was at track practice.” Asia said she saw him after school at the school library while she was waiting for her boyfriend because he was late. This proves that he shouldn't have been convicted because their is no proof. He has an alibi, he could not have killed Hae. So he has an alibi, why did he get convicted exactly? Although Adnan seems innocent he could also be guilty of the murder of Hae. This could mean that he was jealous. Right after they broke up “Hae got an older boyfriend.” He could have been jealous. Adnan wrote “i'm going to kill” on the top of the note in pen never finishing it. The note went to Hae’s best friend. Another Thing is He wrote the note in pen, this means he wanted someone to see it. That statement could mean that his jealousy took over. Sometimes jealousy leads to violence. To conclude, Adnan Syed is innocent because their is no physical evidence on him and he has an alibi. Although Adnan wrote “ i'm going to kill” on a note in pen to Hae’s best friend, he Has a handwritten note from Asia saying she was with him in the library. So, Adnan is more on the innocent side. He had an alibi and no physical evidence went to him. He was put in Jail for a motive that did not even fit.
This reason makes sense because Asia and even a friend of hers claim that they saw and even spoke to Adnan that day and at that time Hae was murdered. This part of the story is when Asia found out Adna was arrested so she wrote him a letter explaining what she remembered about seeing him that day and time. This is from the letter “Im not sure if you remember talking to me in the library january 13’th,but I remember”. This means Adnan is innocent because he was not murdering Hae at the time he was at the library. Therefore Adnan is innocent because Asia’s letters prove that he was at the library at the time Hae was
In Episode 8 of Sarah Koenig’s podcast, Serial, Koenig claims that Jay isn’t a reliable enough source of information for the state to find Adnan guilty of the murder. She argues that there are too many inconsistencies in the story that he has told police over and over, and that there are too many problems in the story that the police use against Adnan.
“In the first taped interview, Jay says Adnan only told him that same day that he was going to kill Hae. Two weeks later, Jay says that Adnan had started talking about it beforehand – four or five days
Adnan's innocence away from him? Jay's story was documented, but his first story kept changing, which seemed off, if he was there shouldn't there be one story and only one story? But his final story, the story that never changes is the one after the mysterious session. Although even that story has flaws. Many to be exact. He says Adan called him after he killed Hae, but we know that they were never friends, only mere acquaintances. Theoretically, would you call an acquaintance after you you killed
Teachers, friends, classmates, relatives and parents could not believe he kills his girlfriend. The reality sometimes is very hard to face especially when feelings are involved. Parents never will accept that their own child who was raised with comfort, love and support could be capable of murder somebody. Disturbing people could be disguised very well under a charming appearance. Many serial killers were known as decent, brilliant and admired persons. When a teenager is carrying a burden as Adnan was, probably feeling guilty for giving back to his parents, his religion and customs could transform him in another person for a few moments when he felt betrayed, humiliated, dishonored and abandoned by the person for whom he did all this. Then he kill Hae Min Lee in a rage 's attack or probably as Jay said Adnan was planning the murder in detail; that is why the police could not found enough evidences to probe him clearly
Based on information provided by Sarah Koenig’s podcast, Serial, Hae Min Lee is killed by Adnan Syed, he yet says he didn’t murder her. Adnan is convicted of committing homicide, which he didn’t do, should not be in jail. This is for 3 main accounts; if something important happens a person remembers that day, Jay knew where Hae’s car was, and by how Sarah and her friend go by the day Jay described.
So, because there has not been any evidence presented that can prove him guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, Adnan is not guilty. The first piece of evidence against Adnan is a testimony given by his acquaintance and partner-in-crime, Jay. The State uses this as one of their main claims. However, there are many reasons why this is the wrong way to go. First of all, the State is using circumstantial evidence, meaning that this ‘proof’ depends on whether or not Jay is telling the truth.
This was something that honestly suited Adnan’s defense more than Jay’s. Remember when I said “He didn’t seem like some sort of assasinator?” Well, he really wasn’t. Why would he kill Hae anyway? Hae and Adnan had dated for about two years, but during the end, it’s like most high school relationships. Someone in the group, or both members, eventually lost interest and break up, which in this case, Hae was the one who broke up. She fell in love with another person, named Don. When they had a break up, Adnan was emotional, and upset. Now, that would make sense, but that was two months before Hae’s death. Why would Adnan kill Hae 2 months after they broke up? I mean, he was described as a player, and sometimes he’d cheat on her. Even after they broke up, many friends his said Adnan eventually got over it.
Jay describes his active-involvement with Adnan in the crime. If Jay tells us the truth, he brings Adnan to school, holds onto Adnan’s cellphone and car so he could pick Adnan up when Adnan calls; picks Adnan up after he committed the murder, cruises around with Adnan, and brings Adnan to track practice. Additionally, Jay cruises around with Adnan in the afternoon, accompanies Adnan to LeakIn park and aids Adnan in digging the hole to bury Hae. Which criminal incriminates oneself? When Jay speaks about picking up Adnan he says: “I noticed that Hae wasn't with him. I parked next to him. He asked me to get out the car. I get out the car. He asks me, am I ready for this? And I say, ready for what? And he takes the keys. He opens the trunk. And all I can see is Hae's lips are all blue, and she's pretzeled up in the back of the trunk. And she's dead.” Jay goes to pick up Adnan from the actual murder and describes the episode in detail. Jay uses short sentences for dramatic effect, and speaks confidently, which is unusual when incriminating
A month after she disappeared on January 13th, 1999, Hae Min Lee was found strangled in a park in Baltimore. Adnan was arrested for Hae’s murder because of the testimony of his friend, Jay. In his interview, Jay told the police that Adnan killed Hae, bragged about it, returned to track practice to make sure he had an
First off, Adnan had always felt a little guilty for dating her because she wasn’t Muslim like him. It didn’t really look good in their religion when people did things like that. Plus, if his parents found out, he would be in A LOT of trouble because he was not supposed to be dating anyone in the first place. But his parents did end up finding out in a pretty bad way, at least that’s what I think. They found out because while Adnan and Hae were at a school dance, one of the parents called his parents and asked about Hae.
As if molded directly from the depths of nightmares, both fascinating and terrifying. Serial killers hide behind bland and normal existences. They are often able to escape being caught for years, decades and sometimes an eternity. These are America’s Serial Killers (America’s Serial Killers). “Even when some of them do get caught, we may not recognize what they are because they don’t [sic] match the distorted image we have of serial killers” (Brown). What is that distorted image? That killers live among everyday life, they are the ones who creep into someone’s life unknowingly to torture and kill them. The serial killers that are in the movies, Norman Bates, Michael Myers, and the evil master mind of SAW, these characters are just that characters. They have been made up as exaggerated fictional characters from the Hollywood imagination.
Police officially identified the body as Tiernan’s from her fingerprints 2 days later, and Gregg declared the case a murder investigation. Her body had been found wrapped in plastic bags and then covered with a floral patterned quilt, buried not too far under the ground. Detective Gregg said her hands had been tied with plastic cables, which were also used to strangle her. Police also found a scarf around her neck. “When Leanne's body was found we discovered a number of bindings on her body. Her hands had been bound,” Gregg said. A black bag covered her head, secured in place by a leather dog collar. Her hair was still in the same ponytail she had it in on the day she disappeared, with the same hairbands and clips attached. The only items missing were her jacket and her boots. Forensic scientists were believed Tiernan’s body had been frozen after her death up until a few weeks of her body’s discovery, based on the state of decomposition of her body . Her body was then examined by a cryobiology expert, who looked at the microstructure of Tiernan's cardiac tissue and determined her body was frozen for a
Adnan Syed walks down the hallway of Woodlawn High School like any other student. He was a good kid. Rabia who reviewed the case also stated, "He was an honor roll student, volunteer EMT. He was on the football team. He was a star runner on the track team. He was the homecoming king. He led prayers at the mosque. Everybody knew Adnan to be somebody who was going to do something really big." This does not sound close to somebody who would commit a murder. Syed being in love with Hae Min made
Asia was the only person that could give Adnan a functional alibi that would have made it impossible for him to have murdered Hae, he simply would not have had enough time to go from place to place. The alibi Asia has for Adnan that day is: “And she told me,'that day after school I went to the public library and Adnan was sitting at a computer, checking email or something and I sat down next to him, we started chatting.'” (Koenig, “The Alibi”) The time frame for which Adnan was at the library was around 2:30pm and Hae was murdered at 2:36pm. This is a six minute window there is no possible way that Adnan would have been able to leave school, meet up with Hae, strangle her, meet up with Jay at Bestbuy, and then proceed to go and bury Hae's body, there is just no way. Asia was Adnan's perfect alibi, there were even two more people with her—her boyfriend and his friend—to testify that they also saw Adnan at the library. He could not have murdered her, time just would not allow
