Personal Theory Paper What is your personal theory of choice? Adlerian Theory was what I felt went closely with my views. Adlerian views are similar to ones of my own. An overview of Adler’s personal theory will be summarized. The aim is to discuss or describe my view of the nature of people, how families systems affect individuals, and looking at it from a multicultural prospective. In addition, I will describe how Adlerian Theory promotes wellness and prevention strategies. I will also provide my views on the nature of problems and the process of change. Lastly, I will discuss techniques, strategies, tools facilitated in the practice of Adlerian Therapy.

If males receive praise in the family and females are does not, this may cause some form of dysfunction. This may even result in a self-esteem problem for the female. This may even cause them to feel out casted from the family. The female may eventually need therapy due to lack of self-worth, praise, or importance. Theory closes to Adler is Rudolf Dreikurs. Although, Dreikurs forum family counseling came out the year Adler died, he claimed his four goals could be found in Alders’ writing (Bitter & Main, 2011). When counselors are not educated on different cultures norms, it is difficult to assess the issue. For example, African Americans are more reluctant to discuss their personal family business or problem with people outside of their household. So when dealing with a counselor of another culture, it is important to figure out a way for them to open up to you. If not educated or properly trained, some counselors can be ignorant to multicultural issues. Certain cultures lifestyle may pose problems with higher risk of like hypertension, diabetes, and mental illnesses. Adlerian theory has some potential drawbacks for clients from those cultures who are not interested in exploring past childhood experiences, early memories, family experiences, and dreams (Corey, 2015).
