People emigrated to America for hope to have better lives and get better opportunities. America gives them the opportunities to live the American Dream. They come looking for a better future and be able to get education to have better lives than they did before. Roosevelt The Statue of Liberty and the image “An ocean steamer passing the Statue of Liberty: Scene on the Steerage Deck” from Frank Leslie’s represents the freedom and hope of those people that migrated. The meaning for them represents a lot to them because all the effort they did to have better lives. Many people leave family behind they leave their whole life behind for a better future. They also bring many languages with them. In the speech it's mentioned “They came to us speaking many tongues-but a single language,the universal language of human aspiration.” It's trying to say that no matter what language they speak there's only one language for human sacrifice. They come looking for freedom in the New World and with their strong loyalty that they have they made it a safer and capable of growth in their lives. They are also considered as for who left their lands to come and join the New World. An example that the speech relating to that point is “We take satisfaction in the thought that those who have left their native land to join us may still Retain and have their Affection.” This quote is saying that the people that leave it all and give it all in the New World are actually considered and give affection to
