What does it take to be a writer?
Being a writer is so much more than just storytelling, especially when it comes to writing for theatre. One has to have a fantastic imagination to write something that will captivate the audience and keep their attention during the whole story. A writer for theatre should also have knowledge of acting because to effectively communicate their story, they should know everything there is to know about their characters. As it was discussed in class, schools such as UCR requires almost everyone in the TFDP department to take some type of acting classes for the purpose of being experienced in every aspect of theatre. Great writers write with a purpose, so I would say it is important that writers write about topics

Actors have to have thick skin and an incredible amount a patience. People constantly criticize and correct actors, mostly to make sure that they bring the part to life in the way the director or writer sees fit. Actors must also have a certain curiosity and ask questions about their character to truly bring that character to life. An actor must be fearless or be really good at hiding their fear. Actors have to be on stage or in front of a camera and be able to perform without freaking out and affecting their character or forgetting their lines. Having a diverse personality is also important for an actor. Actors are required to play a plethora of characters, and to master each of those characters, the actor must be able to embody the required personality.
For me, I find it challenging to speak in front of people. I have definitely come a long way in my public speaking skills over the past few years, but I still face many challenges. I have a diverse personality and have never been accused of being monotone while off stage, but when it comes to being on stage, the fear causes me to freeze up and become dry and monotone. I was very pleased to hear UCR offers such a great public speaking course and I will definitely be signing up for that class to improve my

Being a researcher takes so much time and patience with and requires great attention to detail. When researching for a script or documentary, it is the small details that have the biggest impact. Small details can have drastic effects on a character and how they are performed and received by an audience. In order to be a researcher, you have to be passionate about it, it’s tedious and usually thankless work, but the end result is dramatically affected by the work of the researcher.
Personally, I am not a very patient person, so I feel like I would not be the best person to research information for a character or setting. I will say though, certain topics such as factory farming and food production carry a particular interest for me which I have devoted much of my time to researching. To be honest, if I were researching a part for a Shakespearean play, I would have little passion and probably not do the best work possible, so I feel like that is where the need for passion for the research comes
The first acting teacher we studied was Stanislavsky. Stanislavsky was of the belief that everything an actor needs to know can be found in the script itself. According to this method, a character is found through analysis of the text. Actions and objectives are key; much of the analysis one does of a script should be identifying the character’s intentions. In any given scene, a character has at least two objectives; the first is the immediate objective. This represents what the character is attempting to accomplish or achieve in that very moment. The second is the super objective, or what the character is trying to achieve in the play as a whole. For example, in her first scene in Shakespeare’s Macbeth, the character of Lady Macbeth has the immediate intention of convincing her husband to kill the king, while her super objective is to gain power and control at any cost. Stanislavsky also stresses understanding the tactics used and obstacles faced by a character. Every character, lik...
Al pacino said, "The actor becomes an emotional athlete. The process is painful - my personal life suffers". In other words, "Acting is simply more than walking out on the stage" as Dr. Stevenson would put it. It is more than just reading the lines. To be a true actor, I believe it takes inner capabilities such as learning life. In all the books I have read, all the chapters we have reviewed in class, and in all honesty…Al Pacino is an actor I cannot forget.
Tom Meehan. With every new show, there is always competition to be the best show.
I believe that, if I feel nervous in the future, I will not be afraid of this emotion like what I did before. This course provided me knowledge on how to make me relax. Little by little, I have gained the confidence of combating the fear of public speaking in this course. All these precious experience will continue benefiting me in the future. Thus, I am proud to say that I have fullfilled the course objectives and enhanced my public speaking
I have yet to narrow down specifically what is I want to do in the film industry, but I have come to the conclusion that I want to do something producing related. I do not know everything that producing entails, which is one reason why I am applying to this program. To name a few jobs, I know there are unit production managers, line producers, executive producers, and producers, but I am still confused on who does what. I have researched it and found that different websites say different things, which makes it hard to find the distinctions between all of them. One general consensus, I have learned is that indie producers are all encompassing because they want to allocate money elsewhere by not hiring other crew members. I want to start off as an indie producer, but then move my way into Hollywood. As of now, I am an ambitious filmmaker pursuing a career in movie producing that will take the necessary actions to achieve my goals.
The major areas of my story that feature my research results are, I think, obvious. The first occurrence of my research appearing in the story is when the main character, Dorian, complains to her friend Tony about the amount of spam she gets at her AOL account (Dvorak). When Tony proceeds to explain to Dorian that if she upgrades to AOL version 8 then spam wouldn’t be a huge problem (Business Wire); and when he tells her how spam got into her account through message boards and member directories (Mulligan), are other examples...
Jaehun Lee 11/19/17 Final Response Paper Like sports, music, and painting, one of the most important aspects of acting is to balancing the planned out and the imaginative. While the actor must research the character, and give close thought to what comprises the character’s identity, the actor must also be receptive to his or her environment and be able to live truthfully in the moment. If the acting is too contrived, the performance may not be truthful and the audience may perceive it to be untrue; thus, the actor will not be able to “live truthfully in untrue circumstances.” On the other hand, acting solely from impulse is also dangerous because the actor may not be able to do the role justice. The readings and discussions from class have

unemployment; competition for roles is often intense. While formal training is helpful, experience and talent are more important for success in this field. Because of erratic employment, earnings for actresses are relatively low.
Research is one of the key elements of an individual’s academic life and success. In the academic environment, research is primarily known as the process of systematically investigating class materials or information to complete course assignments. However, it is also a process that helps improves learning and more importantly, aids in developing critical reasoning skills that is helpful in any educational field and continues long into an individual’s professional career.
Research means different things to different people and may be motivated by what you want to gain from the research. Academic research differs from journalism where the latter may produce only one stance of the argument to gain the certain interest and strength. Academic and Social research is more systematic and seeks different angels, evidence and view points. Samantha Punch spoke about her motivation being to find a child’s perspective and finding out about their lives. To do this she had to challenge her own assumptions and it took time and a flexible an...

1. What are some skills an actor must possess? According to the text, some skills that an actor should have are the ability to generate a sense of excitement from the audience, the ability to invoke a sense of fear in seemingly dangerous situations, physical attractiveness, and the ability to keep the audience’s attention by being fully committed to the work being performed (Cohen 78). 2.
Even though they are both under the same industry, they have a lot of differences in their times of rehearsal, their relationship with an audience, and their emotional challenges, etc. After my research, I noticed that each type of actor has their own challenges to overcome and not one is easier than the other. Even though stage actors performed in chronological order, they still need to be on top of their lines at all times. There will never be anyone reading their lines to them while they are performing. If they miss a line, the show must go on. As for film actors, if they forget a line during filming, someone can easily give them their line onset and the director will just shoot another take. Even though they don’t have to be totally familiar with their lines, they have to be mentally and emotionally ready to shoot any scene from the movie. Which type of actor would you rather be? If it was up to me, I’m happy to be either
Research is an attempt to know new things, facts, information etc. in a scientific manner. L.V Redman and A.V .H Mory have stated “systematised effort to gain knowledge we call re-search.” The main function of research is to collect new facts, information etc and to establish new theories on the basis of these facts.
