I consider myself an excellent candidate for the National Honors Society. I believe I am overall very well rounded in the areas of leadership, helping and giving to the community, and have a wonderful personality. Where I stand with leadership skills, I could be pressed a bit further. When I was in middle school I was painfully shy. I was so afraid of what people would think of me. When I was in seventh grade I longed to dye my hair purple but I quickly disowned that idea because no one ever dyed their hair crazy colors in my home school and I would have been forsaken by almost all of my peers; so I stuffed myself back inside my quiet little shell and sealed it shut. I had zero self confidence. For my freshman year of high school I decided to attend the Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts because I knew I wanted to pursue the arts since that’s what I have submerged myself in ever since I could hold a pencil or use my tiny little toddler hands to smear my bedroom walls with paint. I instantly fell in love with that place and quickly became my safe haven. There I was accepted, gaine...

It is a tremendous honor to be considered for membership in the most prestigious Honor Society available at Wapato High School. It is even more grand to be able to work towards enrollment in the Society side by side with such an astoundingly gifted group of young men and women. I am only being considered for potential membership in the National Honors Society because I have demonstrated an exemplary academic attitude, and have proven this through the grades I have attained during the years I have spent in the Wapato School District and the fondness amongst my teachers I have achieved. There are also other characteristics besides good scholarship I must fill for membership in the Society, those being services I have done to benefit others in the community, leadership positions I have held, and an original and interesting demonstration of

Being a leader you need to be in tune with your talents, strength’s, and weaknesses. Personally I feel I have many skills and talents. I am a great friend, I’m trustworthy and dependable. I can step up to the plate if needed and I can take control of certain situations without being told to. I love writing and being able to express my feelings or thoughts through writing and poetry. Along with my talents and skills I also have weaknesses. Knowing your weaknesses is twice as important as knowing your strengths in my opinion. One weakness of mine is being motivated. Once I start a task I will finish it and put 150% effort into it, but actually starting the task is my problem. Another weakness of mine is change. I have a problem with drastic change; I have a comfort with familiarity. With every leader there is going to be strengths and weaknesses and I think it’s very
I believe that leadership is not something that you are born with, but that has to be learned over time. You learn to become a leader from watching other leaders, and also from personal experience. People should become leaders; so that they can help others do their best. They should not become leaders for the title and power that may come with leadership. Being a leader does not mean you get to boss people around by telling them what to do. The purpose of a leader is to guide others by encouraging, showing them the way, and by challenging them to do the best that they can do. I learned leadership through personal experience. In high school I played sports and had many class projects to do. My senior year was the first time my school had a soccer program, and I along with two other girls was captains. As we all know, when a group of girls come together, the drama comes too. All three of the captains had to work together and show the girls that if we wanted this program to be a success and grow, they had to work together as well. It was hard at first, but when we encouraged everyone, it worked out better than expected in the end. Also, in my business class, we had a lot of projects that were mostly group projects. During the end of the year, we had a project where we had to make up a new product. My partner and I were both seniors and it was a stressful time with finals, SAT scores, graduation, and trying to become honor graduates. We were tired and just did not want to do another project, but our teacher, Mr. Brace, did not give up on us. He showed us what to do, and encouraged us constantly every day. He would tell us many positive things and would check up on us. He was a great teacher and a great leader. Leadership may be one wo...
Belonging, whether to people or place is fundamental to our needs and it is this need to feel connected which is timeless and is what ultimately creates a sense of security and individuality. It is through this that individuals also gain acceptance within a community or culture and empowers oneself both at a personal and collaborative level. However with these positive notions of belonging inevitably come consequences of not belonging. In Peter Skrzynecki’s poems “Feliks Skrzynecki” and “St Patrick’s College”, Khaled Hosseini novel “The Kite Runner” and Peter Weir’s film “Dead Poets Society” the use of literary and filmic techniques are used to address such notions of belonging and the resultant positive or negative consequences.
