As students, we experience many academic daily tasks such as projects, quizzes, homework and exams, that can increase the level of our stress. The academic stressor stems from the will of students to get high achievements and succeed. As a result, coping with stress during college is an issue that most of the students need to face. The objective of the current study is to examine the distinction between Israeli and International students in the way they cope with academic pressure. Prior studies found a difference in coping with academic stress among students who come from a variety of cultures and backgrounds. Misra and Castillo (2004) investigated academic stress in American and international students in the USA. The purpose of their study was to compare perceptions of academic stressors and reactions to these stressors between American and international students. They predicted that international students would perceive higher academic stress and exhibit greater reactions to stressors than American students. Ten were Israeli students, ranging in age from 20 to 26 and ten were international students, ranging in age from 18 to 26 (5 Americans, 3 French and 2 Spanish). The questionnaires were administered in the cafeteria at IDC that is known as a social spot in campus. Each participant completed the questionnaire anonymously. Questions included 7 demographic questions, 13 Likert scale questions (from 1-strongly disagree to 5- strongly agree) and 3 multiple choice questions, which examined the levels of academic stress and reactions to stressors among the students. For me to focus my research, and my paper in particular, it would be important that I develop a research question to be a guideline as I carry out the research. The reason why I feel that a research question will be important is that it will help me direct all my effort to the topic at hand by collectively reading and evaluating different sources of data. According to the American Institute of Stress, stress can be defined as an individual’s response, physical, mental or emotional, to an event that causes a demand for change (Selye, 1936). For athletes, that demand for change can be caused by an injury, which ultimately can have a significant impact on overall stress levels. While a physical injury can cause psychological stress, mental trauma can similarly affect an athlete physically. An athlete’s psychological stability has a great affect on an athlete’s susceptibility to pain and can alter the response to and recovery from an injury (Ahern, 1997).

Studies have shown that many college students are not able to handle the stress while in school, which hinders the ability for the brain to act in a normal way (Shahrokh and Hales, 2003). If a person is unable to deal with the stress that one is being faced with, it will have negative consequences in terms of causing several psychological disorders (Canby et al., 2014). Entering post-secondary education is a completely new environment for students, as it can be tough for many to adjust to the new surroundings. There are many factors that cause stress when students enter college, as it can include having the ability to deal with lower marks (Struthers et al., 2000) and having to create a new social life. Once and if a social life is established, it can cause more stress among students because it can lead into peer pressure that results in risky behavior. In particular, peer pressure can cause alcoholism or drug abuse (Seiffge-Krenke, 1990) or it can also cause unprotected sex. Not only does stress revolve around peer-pressure, but it can also be caused by headaches and lack of energy. If a student is constantly staying up late to finish assignments or to study, it can cause headaches from the lack of sleep; thus causing stress. A stressor, as defined by Potter, Perry, Stockert, and Hall (2013), is any kind of event or situation that a person encounters in their environment that requires him or her to change and adapt. Leaving home for the first time and going away for school can be very difficult for some people. In many cases for college freshmen this is their first time being away from their home and parents. Many times they get home sick and want to isolate themselves. They have to get into a new routine of going to school, and change can be very difficult.
