Academic integrity is a moral and ethical policy that upholds the values of avoidance of plagiarism and honesty of academic standards and publishing.
Academic integrity is important to me because I want my thoughts, opinions and research to be my own work and to be able to standalone without taking someone else’s credit. I think having academic integrity and holding it to its definition is important because it shows that a person has the ability to uphold the rules and regulations of avoidance of plagiarism. A person is also then able to prove that they know the material and how to correctly give credit when needed to support their own work.
Academic misconduct can have major impact to my future in many ways. One way would be the disciplinary outcomes if reported some of the worst case scenarios would have been getting suspended and having a hold on my student account. This impacts my future because it would then mean I wouldn’t be able to continue school and classes in order to getting my degree. Without my degree, I then couldn’t get my dream job or excel to a higher position. Another way it can impact my future is by hurting my character. If people see me or hear that I plagiarized, other people could change their opinion about me and change my positive labels into negative ones, for example calling me a cheater, lazy or untrustworthy.

They could now not see me in the same light as they did before. Due to one poor choice, my labels as an honest and trustworthy person can go out the door and end up costing more in my education, work and personal life than what it’s worth. Integrity to me means going above and beyond with everything I do. I think this will fuel good grades and completion of assignments. Having good integrity also came with some confidence, because I had to do more and go outside of the crowd. I did and do more than everyone else, that made me fell a lot more confident about my actions. Confidence has pushed me to make suggestions that I otherwise wouldn't.
Academic honesty is defined as the use of one's own work, this includes thoughts, materials and workings, in the endeavours of writing papers, taking exams (online or campus based), and other assessable material (Harder, 2014). Plagiarism is one of many dishonesties that occurs and is the most common. In 2010, Johanson published an article that stated there may be a correlation with the recent abundance of technology and the rise of student dishonesty. "Access to high-technology has made cheating more convenient, flexible, and efficient…”(Johanson, 2010)

For the many years that humans have roamed in this world, we have always been very concerned about what other people will think about our reasoning behind our decisions. This perpetual ideal often hinders an individual to act based upon their moral values and beliefs. Integrity is the virtue that incorporates these values and decisions of righteousness; this virtue also evidently shows a person’s true character. It is merely impossible to embrace this perfectly at the moment of birth. Acts of courage are essential for developing and nurturing integrity because they strengthen one’s moral value system along with raising awareness of the path or decisions they take in life and it also brings forth a realization that the
In public, integrity plays a very important role since people who have integrity hold firmly to their views, which support them to act properly in academic, personal and professional circumstances. In the academic community, students of integrity will notice academic standards severely, exchange ideas freely and improve the social acknowledgment of the value of their institutions. In personal conditions, integrity leads individuals to understand who they really are, thus they can be honest to their benefits and ideal life. In the workplace, truth enhances personal commitment to the code of ethics set forth by the profession. Additionally, integrity begins mutual beneficial personal relationships in a community, helps people develop a sense of reliability and responsibility, and fosters their professional competencies. In a word, the more people have integrity in a community, the more efficiency and efficiency we can have, and the more happiness and trust we can enjoy.

Integrity applies to me in school by allowing me to succeed in a certain subject every day. This ability prevents me from cheating on tests, homework, or any other work that teachers assign me. The reason why this ability prevents me from doing these things is because I am being honest to myself and the people who assigned me the assignment. Honesty means
Southern New Hampshire University School of Business and Technology students are expected to conduct themselves in an ethical and professional manner. All graded assignments, including discussion posts, papers, projects, exams and other submissions must be the original work of the individual student unless otherwise specified by the faculty. Academic dishonesty is an exceptionally serious offense and may result in a failing grade on an assignment, failure in the course, or dismissal from the College. Academic integrity holds a great deal of weight. This includes honesty in the work produced, as well as being able to accomplish the work. Responsibility in addition plays important factor into integrity. I see responsibility as owning up to what has to be done and getting done. If I have an assignment due, I need to have that obligation completed by the set due date. Trust also helps with this. As a freshman, I have to trust that my professors will give the right amount of time to do assignments, and in return I must do the work I’m capable of.
In conclusion, the issue of academic integrity does not only affect an individual, but also an institution. Therefore, it is the duty of students and schools to ensure that ethical principles are upheld all the time. Moreover, institutions of higher learning should deal with all reported cases of academic dishonestly severely to deter others. In addition, a culture of academic integrity should be promoted. Academic integrity has been a major concern among many colleges and universities across the world. Many people may ask the question: what is academic integrity? University of Missouri’s Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities (n.d.) states, “Academic integrity is the core set of values and principles that underwrites the very mission of the University itself; integrity, honesty, hard work, and the determination to translate personal and professional principles into behavior.” Some also may view academic integrity as the act of sustaining honest and rightful behavior in an academic setting that avoids, prevent and provide disciplinary actions for those who commits academic dishonesty, plagiarism and cheating of any kind. Majority of college and universities in all disciplines has academic ethics and honesty policies for all students regardless of their academic statues as undergraduate or graduate students. Honesty and integrity are very important in the medical field. We as healthcare workers are given such trust and responsibility. We should always strive to do our best and when faced with tough situations. When we don't always know what to do or the proper way to react we should always be honest. Let our superiors know what is going on and ask for advice when we need to. This would show that we are honest. When we come into contact with patients they rely on us to do the right thing and always perform our job with integrity. Often people’s lives are in our hands. We have to care about the patient and care about our job in order to continue to provide quality care. If someone hates their job they are not going to give their best in every way they can. The medical field is not a place for that person.
As students of high school and college, and even in the professional world, we are asked to research and write on subjects that are seen to be important. The research that we are asked to do, has been done many times in the past, which means people are bound to use others’ ideas and words with no recognition, sometimes without even knowing it. This leads to plagiarism, which is something many people have heard of, but never learned the true definition and the harm it can create. Schools and society need to be more proactive in explaining what plagiarism is, how to write correctly in order to prevent it, and teach the consequences plagiarism has.
Without academic integrity, learning can never be assured. Honesty is not fixated, and changes by situation. Everyone should strive for academic honesty or integrity. By trying your hardest and receiving what you deserve, you will go farther than anyone else in life.
