In today’s society students are expected to complete their own assignments and have integrity in their work. But there is a long time trend that Colleges and Universities are trying to eliminate. Students are violating the school’s Academic Honor Code policies by several means. There are different ways that students knowingly violate these policies by cheating, plagiarism, falsification, facilitating, attempting to violate policy, and complicity in academic violation. These are just a few of abundance of examples of academic honor code violations that you will learn about as you read this essay. So are you in violation of any Academic Honor Codes?
Cheating is a past time made present into adulthood by today’s students. As you may remember in your youthful days in middle school. Some of us may have attempted once or twice to cheat to get ourselves ahead in class. There were those who wrote the answers on their sneakers, or wore a calculator watch. However, today’s cheating is much more complicated. These are adults who obviously don’t trust themselves to complete their own assignments and prefer to pay a dignitary to complete their work for them, with technology and advancements, students have advanced their

cheating techniques. Therefore schools have to look at student assignments with a different aspect and require students to do their own work without any help or unfair advantages. Have you ever cut and paste straight from an internet source?
Plagiarism is on the increase in popularity amongst middle and high school students and occasionally this translates over to college assignments landing students in violation with college academic honor code.

Therefore when one is using exact phrasing or partial fragments from articles, internet, or other media sources of any kind, you must cite your adaptation accurately in your assignments. This is a serious offense and may even find yourself in trouble with an even higher authority other than the school system. Falsification is more than just lying, it’s writing or speaking any sort of statements that are untrue in regards to or about your academic work or activities performed at school. So if you alter your grades or scores on your assignments without authorization, is this a violation? Yes, of course, considering you are falsifying your own academic progress to make you appear to have an exceptional grade point average. “No one is impeccable and we all makes mistakes” is a relevant comment people make in regards to lying, so don’t catch yourself in this predicament. Be truthful in all your work and it gets you further in college and life in general as well. Have you ever been offered money to complete a dignitary’s school work?
Facilitating is another form of Academic Honor Code dishonesty. You cannot by any means accept any compensation to assist another student in testing or completing assignments for them. This is an especially difficult scenario for many students, who face student debt, or having financial difficulties this may be appeasing to some but beware of this trend. Be wary of these students. This is also an illegal action that can earn you disciplinary actions and expulsion from the college all together. Have you ever attempted to assist a dignitary do their assignments?
Attempting to aid a dignitary, even if you don’t succeed is a violation as well. You may have thought about it, but if you put it into action, even if you don’t complete the assignment, if you are caught in this type of scenario, you are just as guilty of a violation as if you completed the assignment. Some students will assume they may never be caught but it’s best to not get involved in this type activity. Involvement in in type of Academic Honor Code violation will stay on your records, so later in life you will find it difficult to advance in your career. Maybe you have witnessed a violation, did you report it?
Complicity in academic violation is where you know of any Academic violation in progress or about to occur, you must report it to a higher authority such as a Professor or staff member. Therefore, failure to report it is a violation even without involvement in the action. So beware of your surroundings and report anything suspicious that you may identify as a violation of Academic Honor Code Violation. Tattletaling or snitching, whichever term you prefer to use, may seem preschool, but it can get you in trouble if you are found to be aware of a certain situation and did not report it. Nevertheless, the next time you are sitting in class taking a test and see someone texting the answers to a classmate, you might want to consider snitching. Considering all the ways to violate the Academic Honor Code, are you in violation?
In conclusion, those who make themselves to be; cheaters, plagiarist, falsifiers, or facilitators in school, they inevitably earn themselves an expulsion from school. However, before expulsion there are steps taken to discipline the student found in violation. The student first offense the professor will complete a Settlement of a charge of academic dishonesty form and submit it to central repository. Then the second and third offenses, student will receive written warning and then be placed on disciplinary probation for a period of time. Also, the professor may choose to discredit your assignments consequently, if the student continues to violate the Honor code, the student will then be suspended for a period of time. However, if this still doesn’t resolve the issue, then expulsion from school is a final disciplinary action taken by school authorities. So it is in your best interest to be honest in all your academic assignments and report all violations to the proper authority. Therefore, we can make college a fair learning environment for everyone. Remember to stay honest and prudent to yourself and then you can be honest in everything you do, including school assignments. Stay true to the Academic Honor Code and your rewards will be exemplary.
