Tony, Abdul, and Shin are studying together for Science. They are all pretty good students and usually get A’s or B’s on their work. They complete the homework assignment together, having a good discussion and sharing lots of ideas. They each record the answers to the homework questions and write the exact same thing. Each person turns in their own copy of the assignment.

In this case, it is half and half. This is not academic dishonesty because they studied together which isn’t wrong and they didn’t cheat or plagiarize others work. Furthermore, how it is academic dishonesty because writing the exact same work is wrong and on top of that handing it in especially on an assignment.

Also,the teacher should mark everyone fairly because they did something wrong which could lead the students to a bad learning environment. The student will think that they can get away with plagiarizing all the time and won’t get caught. This will result in them thinking to do this consistently. Using plagiarism may cause you succeed once or maybe all the time, but you know it’s wrong and you will be caught. Maybe not by a teacher or anyone else but the one person that will come after you is yourself. You are going to be in the work force with a reputation that is poor, which will affect the job you receive. Therefore, we believe that the two students should be given a warning about what they did wrong and be told not to do it next time. Also, the teacher should understand her reputation is not going to be affected if she tells them what they did wrong but it will help her students to learn not to do it

If one is not aware of their behavior it is hard for them to tell if their behavior is actually acceptable and ethical. This reminded me of how some nurses copy other nurses documentation of a patient. This is a great example of how academic dishonesty can lead to nursing dishonesty. If you are copying someone's paper work on a patient, this is nursing dishonesty and can lead to a person losing their job. More importantly, this person is creating fraudulent documentation, much like plagiarism. This nurse is taking someone's work and passing it as their own. Honesty and integrity are very important in the medical field. We as healthcare workers are given such trust and responsibility. We should always strive to do our best and when faced with tough situations. When we don't always know what to do or the proper way to react we should always be honest. Let our superiors know what is going on and ask for advice when we need to. This would show that we are honest. When we come into contact with patients they rely on us to do the right thing and always perform our job with integrity. Often people’s lives are in our hands. We have to care about the patient and care about our job in order to continue to provide quality care. If someone hates their job they are not going to give their best in every way they can. The medical field is not a place for that person.

In the past few years, many major corporations conducted tests to determine how much of the world’s population was considered, “honest.” WalletTest.com conducted an experiment in which one hundred wallets were left on the streets on purpose, filled with a good amount of cash, and a picture identification card to explicitly show who the wallet belonged to. Of those one hundred wallets, seventy four of them were returned and twenty six were not. The sample of people they used were of mixed gender, age, and race, giving a good testing sample. The results were good, showing that most people were honest, and the honest people outnumbered the dishonest people nearly three to one. Honesty and integrity does not only play a large role in daily life situations, however. Honesty and integrity play a large role in academics in different levels of expertise: Elementary, High School, and College.
This form of cheating occurs more often than it should because students may not feel confident in their own work; they are constantly being reminded by society that they must do their best and receive the highest academic achievements. So why has society shamed students for taking such actions when society is partly to blame for the situation. But society is not to blame alone; students themselves are also held at fault, because it is their self-doubt and lack of time management that result in them plagiarizing. If students had the experience of submitting actual personal work, they would understand that being praised by their peers is more appreciable and could add to their overall self-worth. Students would also be proud of the grade they receive because it is one they truly deserve for their hard work and not for the work what someone else has already done. Plagiarism is a very serious subject to talk about. It doesn’t sound like it is that big of a deal but very serious things can come out of it. Students could lose scholarships and get kicked out of school for something as simple as copying someone else’s work. This number I’m sure has grown since this report and will continue to grow with the development of the Internet. There are a number of ideas and strategies that can be employed in order to stop this ever-growing phenomenon. As teachers and adults, we are responsible for stopping this trend and educating students about the consequences and dangers of plagiarism. I believe there are a variety of reasons individuals plagiarize. First, students are insecure with their own ability; they don’t believe they can do the work therefore they take others. Second, students believe they can get away with the act because they know others who have plagiarized, and there were not any consequences. Lastly, students are uneducated on what plagiarism is and do not know the consequences of their actions if they commit an act. These ideas will be the focus of the position taken on plagiarism in today’s academic society.
