The novel Animal Farm to the reader is a tale about farm animals taking over their farm and running it for years without the help of humans. However, if the reader looks closer it can be seen that the book is based around the unfolding of events during the Russian Revolution. Each battle is related to a battle during the revolution and certain events are relating to the signing of treaties or rebellions in other countries. All of the animals play a key role in the book as an important figure in real life; Farmer Jones represents the Czar of Russia, Napoleon represents Stalin, and Snowball represents Trotsky and so forth. They create the Seven Commandments and all of the animals begin to learn to read and write. Literacy is hard for most of the animals and because of this the pigs who know how to read and write become the leaders and caretakers of Animal Farm. During one of the meetings, Snowball decided it should come to a vote that the animals work to build a windmill. World history is required in my field of study and it is important for high school students to learn and understand about the world around them and not just the United States.
