The North and the South do not have wars today, and the fact no states have tried to succeed since the Civil War proves the fact that the United States is truly one nation. In Abraham Lincoln's first inaugural speech he tells the people of the South that they should not be afraid and that their peace, property, and personal security are not in danger.
