Abraham had a lot of qualities that he relied on to leave is mark in the history. He was determined and ready to reach is goal no matter the difficulties. "It would have been no surprise if Lincoln never amounted to much in his life due to the various difficulties he faced."P16.He learned from his mistakes and make all his possible to avoid them in the future. "Lincoln was honest enough to admit his own personal failings regarding military leadership at the outset, but his strength was his ability to not only learn from his mistakes, but also to go ahead and study in order to develop his skills."P181. Abraham Lincoln had the advantage as an agent of change to know what the majority of the population is going through, and to understand them.

All of this can be found in Lincoln’s four main speeches; “A House Divided Against Itself Cannot Stand”, his Inaugural Addresses and the Gettysburg Address. Basically, in order to properly analyze Lincoln it may be best to look at Lincoln’s personal and political changes within the terms of his antebellum and Civil War “personalities”, as well as to examine his democratic and autocratic leanings; all through scrutinizing Lincoln’s major speeches.

He dedicated the battlefield to the soldiers who had perished, and called on the living to finish the task the dead soldiers had begun. (Donald, 1995) Lincoln believed that democracy could be a lasting form of government. He showed a nobility of character that had worldwide appeal, and he was a man of great integrity. However, Lincoln was not only the 16th president of the United States, he was an American hero. Lincoln was a well-rounded individual and he had numerous outstanding qualities. The book gave a great overview of all of the accomplishments Abraham Lincoln achieved. He achieved his goal of getting a seat in the Illinois House of Representatives, completing a term in the U.S House of Representatives, Receiving the Republican nomination for his president campaign, becoming the sixteenth president of the Unites States of America, and abolishing slavery. It showed all of the great things Abraham Lincoln achieved and the perseverance and dedication it takes to achieve great things. Abraham Lincoln simply did not have these great achievements handed to him. He fought tooth and nail for every single one. The second thing I took from the book is that success does not come the first time around. Abraham Lincoln failed the first time on almost every single achievement that is listed above besides becoming president. He always faced the harsh reality of defeat whenever he ran for office the first time. However, Abraham Lincoln would always bounce back to achieve his goals. Abraham Lincoln actions show me that you should never give up. That there is always a way to achieve your goals.
