5th period Abraham Lincoln was an American hero that defended and led our country through it's bloodiest war. Abraham Lincoln has been one of the most documented people in history due to the great interest in his life. Many people would argue that Lincoln was only essential to American history but his actions set a universal precident that is still respected and honored today.
Lincoln was born February 12th 1809 (wink. He was the second born in a family of five, he had a younger brother who tragically died at birth. Lincoln also had an older sister named Sarah. Lincoln lost his first campaign for the Illinois general assembly. Before his second campaign Lincoln studied law and became a lawyer. Lincoln won his second campaign and was elected to the state legislature in 1834. Lincoln continued his career in law in 1836 after to moving to Springfield Illinois,he was admitted to the bar and studied law under John T Stewart. Lincoln was elected to the Illinois House of Representatives and served four consecutive terms. After, Lincoln served two years in the House of Representatives. Lincoln returned to law once again only to return to politics in 1854. Lincoln first political denounced slavery in 1854 when he said “I cannot but hate it. I hate it because of the monstrous injustice of slavery itself. I hate it because it deprives our republican example of it's just influence in the world.”(Wikipedia). Directly after Lincoln took office six states seceded from the union and declared themselves the confederate states of America.
