The earliest member of the Bohrer Family, of which we can locate on records, was a man named Abraham Bohrer. He was born in Germany on December 14, 1717. He had a wife, Anna Lucy Schuster, and four children all by the name of “John.” They boarded an unidentified immigration boat and docked in Baltimore, Maryland on September 11, 1750. His occupation was a farmer and hoped for a better life and in search for religious freedom. He died on October 12, 1759. He was just 42. When the Revolutionary war broke loose in the year 1775, three of Abraham’s sons fought for the Colonists (early Americans) while the fourth son went to fight for Great Britain. John was born on December 3, 1758, just one year before his father’s death. He decided to descend from Maryland and travel to Berkley County, Virginia. Here, he bought 10 acres of farmland. Records show that he grew and harvested crops and had a small herd of livestock. He died at the age of 73 and is buried in the BOHRER 1 Cemetery. His two sons, Jacob Bohrer and Archibald Bohrer, both died at a very young age of tuberculosis. Washington Bohrer was born in 1834. His parents are unknown as records show and their deaths were caused by tuberculosis. This was the main reason that Washington moved to Spring Gap Road, West Virginia (My home place today). His family was almost completely wiped out because of this disease. He went into military services in 1861 to 1865. He was in the Company B, 89th Virginia Militia. He was a die heart confederate.
