Abortion is a very controversial issue that has been discussed and argued for many years. Historically, Republicans are pro-life and Democrats are pro-choice. In the third presidential debate, Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton were asked if they would want the justices that they appoint to overturn Roe v. Wade, a 1973 court case that made abortion legal. Donald Trump stated that he would appoint two to three pro-life justices, which will in turn, overturn Roe v. Wade and the issue will go back to the states, and give them the power to decide. Hillary Clinton stated that she is pro-choice and stands behind Roe v. Wade 100%. for example, they are taking away funding from plan parenthood, which not only preforms abortions, but also cancer scans and provides other benefits to women. Hillary also pointed out that Donald Trump thought that women should be punished if they chose to have an abortion, which in my opinion is absurd considering that we live in the 21st century. Hillary also believes that women should have a choice to do a third-trimester abortion, especially if the mother’s health is in danger or if some medical issues with the baby have been discovered. So in conclusion the government should not regulate such personal decisions, they should be strictly made by the parents of the baby. The big question is if the government should regulate abortion or even make it illegal.
I personally think that abortion is a personal decision that can only be made by the woman carrying the baby. Just because abortion is legal, does not mean that every woman has to exercise that right, it just means that if needed, she can make that decision for herself and that baby. So if someone is against abortion, they should not do it, but it does not mean that others should be prevented from doing it. If abortion was illegal, many black market clinics would arise, and preform unsafe abortions, also women might try to do abortions on their own. This could lead to many deaths and put the lives of many women at risk. Safe, medical abortion should be an option for everyone. Abortion is not a good or a bad thing, because it is a personal choice. If you want to get one for financial reasons, you can. If you need to get one for medical reasons you also can, but if you do not believe in abortions then you don’t have to get one. Just like gay marriage, what someone else does should not affect you. Abortion should stay legal, so women have full control of their bodies and what is going on with them and never feel trapped or as if there is no safe way out. Men, especially Donald Trump, should have no say in what women do to their bodies because they cannot bear children, so the issue does no apply to
them. We live in the 21st century, so making abortion illegal would be a huge step back in our development as a nation. People should have the right to make such personal and intimate decisions on their own and without the involvement of the government.
A widespread misconception with the pro-life, pro-choice dispute is that pro-choice means “for abortion”. Pro-choice plainly means women have the right to chose what they want and no one can chose for them. “I have met thousands and thousands of pro-choice men and women. I have never met anyone who is pro-abortion."-Hillary Clinton. The pro choice debate wants to make it apparent to people they are not fighting for abortions; they are fighting for the right to be able to have abortions. As only women can get pregnant, and therefore only women have abortions, a male legislator has no right to vote on an abortion related law. Every woman has the right to make her own choice and it should continue in that manner. If you're opposed to abortion, don't have one, but don't try to impose your morality on others. Abortion is a personal choice between a woman and her doctor. Instead of making abortion more complicated and treacherous for women, lawmakers should promote policies that reduce the need for abortion.
There will always be a debate over whether or not abortion should be a legal option. It continues to divide Americans very long after the US Supreme Court’s decision on Roe v. Wade. People, identifying themselves as pro-choice, say that choosing abortion is a right that should not be limited by the government or religious authority, and it outweighs any right claimed for a fetus or an embryo. Abortion is a highly controversial topic of debate; this debate evokes strong emotions on both sides. Abortion is a pretty cut and dry topic; you are either Pro-Life or Pro-Choice. Pro-life advocates are people who believe abortion is ethically and morally wrong, and that it is the government’s job to protect all people including the lives of unborn children. Pro-choice supporters say that it is not the government’s responsibility to protect the unborn children, and women should have the right to determine whether or not they continue with their pregnancies; by choosing to have an abortion. Women’s rights concerning abortion were brought to the forefront during the court case of Roe vs. Wade in 1973. This court case gave women the right to abortion under the due process clause in the 14th amendment of the United States Constitution. Abortion is classified in two points of views: Pro-Choice supporters and Pro-Life advocates. The reelection of President George W. Bush holds potentially significant consequences for women's rights, particularly a women's right to choose. Abortion, a hot button topic of main stream society, was first made legal in the United States with the Supreme Court's landmark case of Roe v. Wade in late 1973. The Court's current configuration favors abortion and a woman's right to choose by a five-to-four vote. But many political and Court analysts believe that these next four years will give President Bush the opportunity to fill vacancies on the Supreme Court, a President and administration that Senator Hillary Clinton says, view "Roe v. Wade [as] the biggest abomination of The Constitution in our history ." A champion of the pro-life cause, President Bush will most likely fill any open spots on the Supreme Court with conservative justices holding an anti-abortion stance, thus putting Roe v. Wade at risk of being overturned and giving individual states control over abortion laws. These next four years could very well be a turning point for women's right in America. Although pro-life groups see abortion as a murder, it is my conviction that abortion rights should be preserved because it is a woman's right to have self-governance of her own body, life begins at birth not conception, and it protects the health of the mother or fetus giving the child the opportunity to live a fulfilling life.
In 1973, in what has become a landmark ruling for women’s rights, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of a woman’s right to an abortion. Ever since, individual states have adopted, altered, and/or mutilated the edict to fit their agendas – Texas included. However, the decision made by the justices in Roe v. Wade didn’t set clear cut, inarguable demarcation lines, which has allowed the fiery debate to consume the nation. Rather than establishing a legal ruling of what life is, or is not, the Supreme Court has remained silent on the issue.
How would you feel if someone took away your ability to live? How would you feel if you were never given the chance to come into the world and contribute to the human race? These are some of the questions an individual needs to ask when considering having abortion. Abortion, in my opinion, is immoral and unjust simply because it is murder. A brutal murder of a being who has not even seen the world and a huge injustice to a helpless fetus who might have been the next Einstein, President, or the person who would find a cure to cancer. Morality says that every person has the right not to be unjustly killed. Hence, this right also apply to any unborn child. The thought of an individual killing his/her own unborn child is always lurking in the back of my mind because it’s hard to assert the harm being caused by the unborn child to the mother or to the society in general. If we say abortion is morally right, then we are against procreation and procreation is one of the major contributions of a human being to his or her society and the world at large. The act of procreation is one of the most beautiful things in the world. To make a human being, being able to watch that kid grow into an adult and actually be responsible to the society, should be a very fulfilling experience for any mother. I hereby oppose the principle of paternalism because I don’t believe it is moral to take away or destroy the life of an unborn child to save the life of the mother because there is no harm caused by the unborn child but I support the harm principle because abortion in general, causes harm to the unborn child, his future, the mother and the society. Therefore, I subscribe to Don Marquis view on Abortion in his article “Why abortion is immoral”.

Abortion is defined as the, “the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, most often performed during the first 28 weeks of pregnancy.” Pro-life supporters believe that abortion is unethical and argue that it is the mother’s responsibility to own up to her actions. They also argue that there is always the option of adoption, and that abortion could be very dangerous. Abortion was legally being done since 1880 in the United States. During that time, many states have started to ban abortion. Even though abortion was illegal in many places, it was still being practiced. Many by licensed physicians. They “risked losing their license to perform the abortions”. Even though abortion was illegal in most states, women all over the United States were getting abortion illegally. Some even performed self-abortions with “hanger and needles”. “Also many women would go to other countries and get an abortion”. Why should any woman be denied the choice to do what she wants with her own body? Women should have the control to decide what is best for their own body without the interference of the government’s laws. Making abortion legal can save and protect the lives of the pregnant woman and unborn fetus. The abortion procedure can help a woman’s life by saving her from financial stress, difficult responsibilities, risky health concerns, emotional disturbances and it also corresponds with the law . The procedure helps the unborn fetus by preventing an irregular health, emotional, and social development.
I believe that the government should not be able to control what a woman does with her body. By granting women the right to choose, this does not permit her to kill, but to decide what is best for all persons involved. There are many situations that show that abortion may be the best for the parents and the unborn child. Situations such as rape or incest prove that it is not the woman’s fault and not fair to the mother or the unborn child to pay for it. There are other situations such as if the mother carries a disease the can be passed on, or if the parents are unfit to raise a family at the time. Any case however, should be between the people involved and not the government.
Women should have the right to decide whether or not they would like to have an abortion. The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines abortion as; “the termination of a pregnancy after, accompanied by, resulting in, or closely followed by the death of the embryo or fetus.” The idea of a woman’s right to have an abortion being taken away is merely incomprehensible.
