Canada is a big country and has a population of about 36 million people, about 4% of that population is aboriginal people. In canada aboriginal people are 17% of the murder victims. 29% of the aboriginal people murdered are women and 92% of aboriginal women are murdered by family or acquaintances.

In total there has been around 500 reported cases not counting any that were ruled not suspicious or suicide, some experts think that the real number of murdered indigenous women and girls is around 1000 in the past 40 years. One of the real problems is how nobody really knows the true number because so many cases go unreported and therefore unsolved. So many of these murder cases started with something as simple and sad as abuse, many cases go
