Baseball
Baseball has been around for many years. It is one of the greatest sports of all time. It is very popular, people across the world play the sport. Baseball has been around longer than most of the sports that are around today. The MLB has been around for over one hundred years. There are a lot of rules and ways to get better at baseball. Baseball was invented in America in 185. But even before that, as early as the 1600s, people in England played a similar game called rounders. You may have heard a man named Abner Doubleday, he invented baseball in Cooperstown, New York, during the summer of 1839. Doubleday then went on to become a civil war hero, while baseball became America's beloved national pastime. Baseball became an organized sport in the 1840s and the 1850s. By the time of the American Revolution, variations of such games were being played on schoolyards and college campuses across the country. They became even more popular in new cities where men sought work in the mid-19th-century. In September 1845, a group of New York City men founded the New York Knickerbocker Baseball Club. Alexander Joy Cartwright would codify a new set of rules that would form the basis for modern baseball, calling for a diamond-shaped infield, foul lines and the three-strike rule. He also abolished the dangerous practice of tagging runners by throwing ball at them. When the sport was invented it really changed the American tradition. The early players barley could hit home runs. Now it is very easy for players in the MLB to hit homeruns. The Red Sox were one of the first teams to become in the MLB. Baseball was popular around World War 1 and the Great Depression. It helped a lot of soldiers because they could play baseball when they were at war. Jackie Robinson was the first african american baseball player. That really helped the african american community out to play more sports and to become more equal to whites. In the 50s and 60s they changed the grass fields to turf. It was very different for people it was a big change for people that were in the MLB. After Jackie Robinson was in the league more african americans began to play in the MLB. He played for the Brooklyn Dodgers. Which is now Los Angeles Dodgers. Whites didn't like that Jackie was in the league. People were really mad and didn't like it all. Some people even wanted to leave the league because of him. In the 70s hitting home runs became very popular. A lot of players were hitting home runs. When TV started to broadcast MLB games people would watch it all the time. People across the nation would watch it on TV. People still today watch it a lot on TV. Once baseball became more popular, There started to be more teams. A lot of more teams. There is thirty teams total now to date. Baseball equipment started to get better and players got better thru the years. So did the uniforms. Uniforms were more baggy in the early years of baseball. Now to date they are more fitted and better and very nice rather than ten years ago. The baseball bat, The bat has always been wooden. In the MLB you have to use a wooden bat. In little league, high school, and in college you can use metal bats. Bats now can be very expensive. Teams have nine players who use a leather hard ball, a wooden or metal bat, and padded gloves.
The batter, catcher, and home-plate umpire wear special protective gear. Teams alternate turns in the field and at bat, the home team batting last. One turn at bat for each team constitutes an inning, and nine innings constitute a game. In the field there are a pitcher, a catcher, four infielders, and three outfielders. The pitcher throws overhand, employing a variety of deliveries, from the raised pitchers mounds to home plate, a distance of 60.5 ft. An opposing batter attempts to hit the pitches and safely reach base, while the fielders attempt to put the batter out through various plays. A batter who misses three pitches, or fails to swing at three pitches is out. But if the pitcher pitches four balls the batter can walk to first base. A run is scored every time a player crosses home

Of those nine players on the field, three play deep in the outfield (right, left, and center) who look to catch a ball hit in the air and get it back to the infield as quickly and efficiently as possible; if the ball drops then their goal is to hurry to the ball and get it back to the infield as quickly and efficiently as possible before the runner (after the ball is hit and the player gets on base because the ball wasn’t caught in the air, his title changes from a batter/hitter into a runner) advances to the next base.
