My current area of interest is in the engineering and the biomedical field. After experiencing the rigorous AP Chemistry course, I was able to find my passion in the field of medicine. Furthermore, I had already developed an interest in engineering from my previous engineering courses and clubs, so a deeper understanding of what I wanted to do was discovered in a chemistry lab. Being involved with the Technology Student Association at our institution, I learned several different skills in a variety of technical fields. This led to my conclusion that I wanted to become a biomedical engineering. This field of engineering incorporates both the medical aspect and technical aspect of what I want to become in the future.

engineering. This internship will allow me to further develop and learn several skills in the field that I am currently interested in. Since I am interested in the biomedical engineering field, I will truly be exposed to another subcategory in the broad field of engineering. It will allow me to see how engineering can be applied in a technical aspect; however, I do not know how I will be exposed to hands on activities. Along with working in a lab with my mentor developing and installing software, I will learn several programming languages to develop responsive designs for the corporation. Therefore, this internship has truly given me the opportunity to experience another field of engineering, and it has given me the chance to muster up my strength. My planned deliverable is a portfolio comprised of several projects conducted throughout the year.
Within the portfolio, all of the projects that I will be working on will work towards one goal for my SCE, which is to develop my technical skills in a professional environment. This portfolio will contain the big projects like: HTML documentation, Installations, and MADCAP Files. These projects are some of the many examples that my mentor and me have decided to do throughout this SCE program. Artifacts and evidence will be provided using video instructional guides on how we created some of the products. Screen shots will be taken of major scripts written by me. It will basically contain everything that is needed for an electronic portfolio, which also includes the hour’s logs and journal entries. Additionally, the portfolio will be organized in a chronological way shows the progress that I have made throughout the internship. As a matter a fact, it will show the training process that I had to go through in order to create the prototypes that I will create. The veracity of prototypes will be determined by the future outcomes of testing the
products. In conclusion, it was very difficult to find an appropriate way to deliver my deliverable, but the portfolio was the best choice. It will be a representational of my journey during SCE. The portfolio will be comprised of everything that was mentioned earlier. It is relevant to my area of interest because portfolios are used in several different work environments. A portfolio is a collection of several tasks and evidence to show a certain idea or person. My mentor creates portfolios weekly which include the pros and cons of a certain project she has been working on for that week since she is a technical writer. Since I am interested biomedical engineering, I will need to know how to effectively show my work and progress as an engineer for major projects. I will be compiling the files for every small project that I will be working on and with.

Also certificates received during completion of continuing education programs, list of in-service records attended, contributions at work for each job description, copies of annual completed skills checklists, annual evaluations, and list of mentees mentored, including professional development should be documented as well. A portfolio should be able to reflect summaries of significant roles played such as, professional presentations, written materials- such as, brochures, handouts, evaluation summary, and letters of appreciation. Copies of articles published by the professional along with the complete citations, including awarded grant funds for a project or research study, and an abstract describing the study should be included in the portfolio. All these components improve ones professional identity if arranged in proper format as it determines one’s professional
What drives me to pursue a career as a biomedical engineer is not only to help disabled patients, but also my love of the field itself. Biomedical engineering combines two subjects that have left strong impressions on me, biology and physics. Just learning these subjects from classes and textbooks does not suffice to quench my curiosity. I want to learn more through personal experience. At SIMR, I will be able to handle my own research project, and it will really help me gain an even stronger interest, and propel me forward into my career
My educational goal that I have set for myself is to establish and maintain high grades in each course resulting in a stellar GPA. This will be accomplished by setting a schedule for my assignments, and maintaining pace with the program for a thorough understanding of the material. My focus is to not only succeed academically, but to be able to apply what I have learned in a clinical setting with excellence. Oftentimes when we are children, we dream of what we would like to be when we are adults. Some of us dream of becoming famous, others dream of careers that represent honor and prestige. Interestingly enough, at such a young most of us never consider the journey a career will require us to endure. Take becoming a neurologist for example; one could argue numerous ways of attaining such a position. It is a fact, however, that in the pursuit of a medical degree, the combination of major and minor during one’s undergraduate years is key in the future success of an aspiring student. In light of this, the most ideal major and minor combination, in order to become a neurologist, is a major of biology with a minor of chemistry.
These experiences have contributed to my decision to pursue an advanced degree in the healthcare/biomedical field and helped to clarify the path towards accomplishing my goals. Biomedical Engineering is, by far, one of the most unique and comprehensive STEM fields, encompassing an unprecedented amount of skills, knowledge, data, technology, and professions. For anyone with a sincere appreciation for math and sciences (like myself), that fact is much more invigorating than it is daunting. I chose BME primarily out of hesitation; being unable to pick just which science I would want to spend the rest of my life studying. Although I was inclined to study Neuroscience at first, I knew that entailed abandoning a significant amount of mathematics and physics in my upper-level courses. In the end, BME provided me with a comfortable liaison between virtually all of the major sciences and mathematics, and most importantly, an avenue to Neuroscience that didn’t align itself entirely to biology and chemistry.
Engineering is a broad branch of science that involves logical reasoning and innovation/design, usually intended towards a main goal- problem solving. Within the field of engineering, there are many sub-divisions/disciplines- these include, but are not limited to: civil, chemical, mechanical, computer and geological. The University of New Brunswick offers each one of these disciplines to study, as well as an opportunity to specialize within that discipline. Often, the discipline of engineering that is chosen to be studied-greatly impacts the career path after university. Accordingly, I have chosen to study chemical engineering, as it appears to be the most promising for job opportunities, but also the most interesting career path and learning journey.
Ever since I was young, I knew that I wanted to make change in the world. When I was younger, I didn't how I was going to do this. As I got through my sophomore year of high school, I realized that I was good at math and had lots of interest in science but got bored in social studies classes. I took physics and pre-calculus. I excelled greatly in these areas. I loved the rigor that they entailed but also I found them to be very interesting. After a few jobs shadows and lots of research I knew that being an engineer was the best way that I could make change in the world. During my junior year I took a computer aided drafting class and worked with robots. After doing that, I have never thought about being anything but an engineer, I have always wanted to make change in the world, and as an engineer I will be given that opportunity. Ever since that class, I have been working with robots and CAD systems. I like playing with robots and making them do different things. This is something I am looking forward to doing on a greater scale as an engineer. Throughout my senior year, I have taken Advanced Placement computer science and calculus (along with many other AP classes). I like being pushed as a student because as an engineer I will be pushed with many difficult problems and knowing how to deal with that is something I will need to know how to do.
