Savannah violated one of the types of occupational fraud and abuse known as Conflicts of Interest or conflicts of commitment from the standpoint of ethics. The main ethical issue involved in conflicts of interest is breach of trust to the public. Savannah violated her ethical competence as a nurse, State Board of nursing, and ANA code of Ethics. The second option is to call off duty because patient’s safety is key. The primary role of nurses is to provide patient-centered care. The disadvantage of calling off is that it might impact in her record as an occurrence and it might affect her appraisal.

The messaging in both the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA) and Canada’s Health Informatics Association (COACH) Code of Ethics are very similar. I agree with you that the nurses violated provision 9 of the nursing code of ethics. Nurses have an obligation to themselves, their whole team and to the patients to express their values. Communication is key in a hospital, so everyone knows what is correct and what isn’t within the workplace. In order to have a productive, ethical, positive environment. These values that should be promoted affect everyone in the hospital, especially the patients, and can have a negative outcome if those values are not lived out.
