Military bases are found in many communities across the United States of America. Some bases were first built and then communities formed around then. Other bases were built in communities that already existed. There are bases that were built where the government had to buy land from farmers in order to build the bases. The area planned for the base in my community, is a natural conservation area, behind a school and a large residential area. The base will also border the sea. Military bases can have several impacts on the community, it residents, on the environment, on the ecosystem, and on the water surrounding the base. A military base should not be built in my community.
A military base in my community will increase the fear in residents of a terrorist attack. The US government has made many enemies with the war in Iraq and Afghanistan. With foreign governments developing nuclear weapons to use on its enemies, a military base will be the first place to be attacked. A nuclear assault or any kind of military assault on the military base will destroy the base as well as cause damage to the community and its residents. The long term effects of this attack can be dangerous as witnessed from the attack on Hiroshima.
A military base should not be built in my community because of the fear of possible accidents. Accidents involving armed personnel while training can happen often and this can be dangerous to the residents as the base will be located close to a school and a large residential area. On the United States military base in Okinawa Japan, accidents involving helicopters taking off and landing happens daily. A small mistake can lead to a huge disaster where many lives could be lost. This will create stress on the residents...

Almost every argument for a military in the community is based on the promise that it will bring jobs to the community. The jobs will mainly be in construction and when the construction is over, there will be no more jobs unless you join the military. The military base will provide jobs for military personnel and the few civilian jobs will be taken by the spouse and family of the military personnel. Military bases are self-sufficient in that they have their own stores, gas stations, movie theatres, and restaurants and so there will be no benefits to the community.
The installation of a military base can have significant impact on the health and well-being of the people of the community as well as on the environment and on the ecosystem.
In Activity 35: Building in Boomtown, the ecologist’s reports regarding all three locations prove that this is true. The marsh is a habitat for many distinct species and building there would completely destroy their habitat. Not to mention that building on the Delta Wetlands would also prevent the river from naturally depositing sediments into the marsh and lead them directly to the ocean. This can cause species that rely on the ocean such as fish and birds to become endangered. Compared to the cliff, building on the marsh and the hill have much more impact on the environment and its animals. Many animals live on Green Hill because they have access to water, trees, and food. According to the ecologist’s report for Green Hill, building their would “not only directly reduce the wildlife population by destroying their homes, but it will also stress the animals by preventing them from moving between areas with food and water” (SEPUP C-55). On Seaside Cliff, few animals’ habitats would be destroyed and there would be less of an impact on the environment. This evidence verifies that building on the cliff would be less environmentally damaging. Wildlife and environment is an important factor when considering building because it is better to have minimal amount of damage to the
The Rocky Mountain Arsenal once home to chemical manufacturing facilities in support of the World War II and some parts of the land was used for the Prisoner of War camp. The Arsenal’s location was selected due to its relative distance from the coast. The weather that conducive or suitable to outdoor work, and the appropriate type of soil needed for the project. The location was also close to Stapleton Airfield, a major transportation hub. The land was also used by some private industries to manufacture pesticides. This operations in the sites resulted in the contamination of the soil and ground water, and loss of native species. In 1992, the Congress passed the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Act, designating the site as a future refuge. Since then, the Rocky Mountain Arsenal has been transformed from environ mental clean-up site into a premier Urban National Wildlife Refuge. Each year, thousands of visitors come to the refuge to appreciate its wildlife and view the scenic habitats. The Arsenal has been called a significant habitat island for wildlife and a place to renew the relationship with the nature.
The Savannah Campaign was one of the many battles waged by Major General William Tecumseh Sherman in his total war concept to destroy and devastate the Confederacy’s support. With the destruction of the rail and commercial center at Atlanta, General Sherman set his sights on Savannah with an intent to further cripple the state and ensure Union victory. In order to accomplish this task, there was one obstacle that his forces must overcome. This obstacle was Fort McAllister, a massive earthwork whose sole purpose was to defend the southern area of Savannah from coastal attacks by Federal forces. The purpose of this information paper is to provide a general summary of Fort McAllister’s history and purpose and the importance of its strategic location in the Savannah Campaign. Additionally, the six warfighting functions will be analyzed surrounding Fort McAllister’s garrison unit led by Major Anderson and the assault from Brigadier General Hazen’s infantry units.

Many children are born into families that are a part of a branch of the military. Parents may wonder if the constant moving and deployment will bring negative effects on a child’s development. The rigorous lifestyle of the military can have negative effects on the children’s development growing up, but the opportunity of living as a military child is a culturally diverse, socially strong, and mature development of characteristics. The military life offers many benefits for raising a child. Have a family in the military lifestyle can greatly help the children’s development of positives characteristics.
Many aspects of American culture benefit from militarization of war. Our sports benefit from the militarization of U.S. culture, music and patriotism. Militarization can be a good thing and a bad thing that is in our culture. We also suffer from war efforts and militarism. We’re not the only ones that suffer from militaristic events. Militarism effects our daily lives with promotions and recruitments ads we are touched from the military every day. Death takes suffering to another level. Seeing how war effects people from our country and other countries, justifying militarism is tough. Justification is based off of opinion. Militarization of the U.S. is a wide range topic.
Military background and history has been in the world for a long time. It goes back as far as Assyrians, Spartans, Aztecs, Romans and Greek. The military purpose is mainly to protect our country and our rights and freedoms. It’s just a part of nature. No one came up with military it just happened and got stronger and stronger over the years. It first started with random people coming together protecting towns and homes and families, and eventually more and more people came together. The three main branches of the military are The Army, Navy, and Marine Corps. All three of these branches are the reason the U.S is how it is. These branches fight for our freedom, our rights, and our country!! (Robbie Hughes Interview)
Based on Laurel Nesbit, a program assistant in the Office of Sustainability here at UF, our campus manages to utilize 470,000 Megawatts of energy annually. This figure is generated from all the energy-consuming gadgets that operate on our campus on a daily bases. These gadgets include computers that are left turned on over the night even they are not in use, copiers, and the fume hoods in our laboratories. Admittedly, the success and the health of wellbeing of the students is contingent upon some of these equipment. For instance, the laboratories need the fume hoods in order to keep the experimenters safe. Instead of casting these necessities away, we can develop alternatives which will be capable of generating energy in order to compensate for the electricity that we endlessly
On the other hand, the military lifestyle carries much more responsibility than the civilian lifestyle. There is always the threat of heading into a combat zone and having to risk your life. You have to be on time to work, there are no "I got stuck in traffic" excuses. You must always be well-groomed, and live up to the working and presentation standards of your specific military branch. You never have the option of saying "no" or just quitting

...al security, which I believe are the most pressing concern of our time. When considering the fragile Caspian region, there is a tendency to focus on the complicated geopolitical struggle that underlies the New Great Game. A to focus on energy security. Energy security, which has been the cause for several of the most recent wars of our time, including the war in Iraq. Yet global ecopolitics and environmental security, have caused wars of their own, and may still cause another. I have endeavoured to demonstrate the importance of environmental security in our lives. An environmental security crisis can leave a lake devoid of life, or transform a landscape into a wasteland. It can take a vibrant community and turn it into a sickhouse. It is my argument that environmental security should be brought alongside energy security, to the forefront of our political agenda.

Instilling this new way of energy usage into off-grid communities will inevitably increase the state of living for those in cities and other well populated areas. The change to renewable energy sources could drastically lower the pollutants currently being dispersed into the atmosphere by coal mines and other harmful power options,
