I remember the many trips we took to Mexico on a yearly basis since growing up. Though I was young, I clearly recall the foods and the different celebrations we attended. It was like a different world for me, a fun world and I looked forward to visiting every year! My favorite part was getting a few pesos and being able to spend it at “La Tiendita” the “Little Market” next door. Of course I always spent it on candy and would have to beg my dad for more. My family and I would spend a whole day at the beach. We would even fish and eat what we caught. I vividly remember those experiences and the free-spirited child that I was. It was those trips that gave me a better understanding of my culture but I wouldn’t live there due to the poor living
I am going to tell you about a famous, yet kinda eerie celebration that takes place in mexico. This is a tradition celebrated by the Mexican Natives, most Mexican Americans (including myself) don’t even acknowledge this day, unless they happen to be visiting mexico at the time of this event.
If one were to visit different countries and societies throughout the world, they may notice the many differences and similarities each region shares. This makes the world a very unique place because there is constant change and diversity everywhere we look, no matter the distance traveled. A prime example of this would be the similarities and differences between the United States of America and Mexico. Although the two are neighboring countries, there is a great deal of diversity amongst them that deserve a thorough examination.

There is this teenage girl name Leah who lived in New York, she was ending her first year of high school as a freshman at Flushing High School. On the last month of classes around June she was hanging around with her best friend Henry. After class, they would hang out together and go to the city to explore and waste time, but there was one thing Leah had to tell Henry, her family had to move to Mexico because her parents thought that they will have a better life. In conclusion, for many, Mexico is simply a country on a map. Even becoming a place that they wish to keep from and forget. For others like me, however; it was a place that hasn’t only reconnected me with my culture, but a home where I had the good fortune of reuniting me with my loved ones. Frances Calderón de la Barca explored Mexico for over two years during her residence away from Spain. During that time, she gave great detail of the life associated with the Mexican people and what it was like for her being a guest in their country. European influence played a major role in creating a stable nation for the country. Their religion has played the biggest part in providing stable principles during this time. In the novel, Life in Mexico, Mexicans have held on to the Spanish influence of Catholicism. Frances Calderón de la Barca gives great detail on how Catholicism has created holidays within Mexico, created numerous churches throughout the country, and influenced the daily lives of the Mexican people.
As my father and I finally fit the statue of the little Virgin Mary in the back of the car, it was time to get on the road. I could already taste the guavas from my great grandfather’s ranch. Feeling the warmth of the sun on my skin. The smell of my aunt’s cooking. Hearing the excitement of my great grandmother’s voice. I wanted to be there already, be in the beautiful country of Mexico.
