A Summary of My Community Service project

For my community service project I did a large variety of projects. I completed a total amount of seventy-one hours, which includes: eleven hours of in school hours, and sixty hours of out of school service. The groups I worked with include: The Immaculate Conception School, The Merimack Heights Academy, and the Mad Science program. Overall I had a great time and a wonderful experience serving the community.

For the Immaculate Conception School I did many events. First for the I.C.S I helped to set up with two of the Junior High Socials and ran one of the games at the Halloween party. Through working with our school I learned valuable skills of teamwork and leadership by working with others and being a role model. I learned how to work with others successfully by learning my way of solving a problem might differ than my peers and when we think together we can come up with very effective methods to solve problems that would normally be very difficult. I also learned that when a group is cooperating and working together they can accomplish their goals very quickly and sucsesfully. Also while I was running one of the games at the Halloween party I felt a sense of responsibility to act appropriately in front of the children so they would have a good example to follow.

One of my main Community Services, and by far my favorite, was the Immaculate Conception School Saturday morning hoops program. This event took place for about sixty hours at the Immaculate Conception Gym from November to March. The goal of this program was to provide children with a safe environment to learn the game of basketball and to compete against other catholic school teams in the surrounding areas. ...f fun. I learned something about myself to on this journey. I learned that I really enjoy being a leader and having people look up to me. I also learned that some people can be very difficult when they procrastinate and make group projects very hard. I believe my effort had a very positive affect on many people. During the basketball season I had parents walking up to me and telling me what a good job I was doing with their child and that I was a great role-model for children. I didn’t really understand what they were talking about because I was just acting the way I always and I think people just started to notice it. I really did have a great time doing this project and I hope other people did too. I really hope that this project continues because it not only helps the community but, It helps people feel good about something they have done to help others.
