Cooking Demo Presentation

The first form of proposed artifact is a cooking demo presentation. The content of this cooking demo presentation would be on nutrition. With this artifact I would demonstrate a few competence that I covered in my focus areas. F-2 is where I was able to demonstrate and understand the multiple effects of how television food shows play a positive and or negative role on how we eat and f-5 can develop a wellness plan to maximize one’s workplace and home-based productivity. This artifact is visual and hands on.

This artifact would involve skills that I learned as a little girl watching my mother flip through cookbooks looking for different meal ideas. Based on courses taken I will combine my nutritional knowledge with some of my favorite recipes that I’ve learned from my mom and great new memories by sharing. I would like for this cookbook to educate, engage, and promote healthy eating.

Before creating a cookbook I would need to understand the policies and language around publishing a cookbook. I would need to learn how to accurately measure ingredients in a cookbook and have knowledge on the conversions. I would also, need to understand how to market to all audiences and, have more knowledge about marketing sales via social media and online.

By produced a monthly newsletter I would have to stay current on all health and nutritional issues that affect our community so that all information is received within the appropriate timeframe.

The “new learning“ skills that would be necessary for a newsletter would be increasing my skills in creating newsletters. Staying informed on current issues that affect low-income communities. This newsletter would require that I research all information for facts before it’s printed or submitted to the community. If recipes are placed in the newsletter I would have to try all recipes out before they are actually consider and have all nutritional stats. This is an area that needs constant development.

Documentary films have become very popular in the last few years, with the success of Michael Moore’s films fueling interest in learning while being entertained. Two filmmakers have benefited from this new interest in the non-fiction film movement, including directors Morgan Spurlock and Lee Fulkerson. The two filmmakers both made documentaries regarding healthy eating, or the lack thereof, in North America. Spurlock’s film, Super Size Me, was about a healthy man who wanted to see what would happen to his body if he ate nothing but items from McDonalds for an entire month. On the other hand, Fulkerson’s Forks Over Knives is about a man on a quest to improve his health by consuming a plant and whole food based diet.
The information is presented in an efficient manner as it correlates and appeals with viewers existing knowledge and lifestyle. The documentary begins with a lethargic women who appears to lack motivation due to following an unhealthy lifestyle and diet. This example, that continues throughout the whole documentary,
In Michael Pollan’s “The End of Cooking” shares the message of what we are losing something important in this day and age because of all our pre-made and processed foods. This can be compared with Kothari’s “If You Are What You Eat, What Am I?” and her argument that food is part of one’s own identity. By using the examples from these two texts you can analyze the state of food and culture in the United States today. All of the processed and pre-made foods are causing people all across America to lose their sense of Culture. We no longer know what it’s like to make one of our cultures specialty dishes from scratch which can help people identify with their culture. This process helped newer generations see what it was like for those before them to cook on a daily basis and could help them identify your sense of culture.
In February 2010, a remarkable chef and speaker, Jamie Oliver, presented himself to a TED (Technology, Education, Design) audience as ruthlessly real and charismatic. In his speech, “Teach Every Child about Food” he shares powerful stories of his anti-obesity project and makes the case for an all-out assault on our ignorance of food. Jaime Oliver’s speech aims to alter the perspective of Americans and their decisions about food and its effects. Since then, Oliver’s TED talk has been viewed across the nation and brought a reality to the issue with food education. Jamie Oliver successfully utilizes ethos, logos, and pathos to portray his belief that without the use of food education, America and its children will fall under the weight of its own obesity.
Increased portion sizes have gone unnoticed by consumers unaware of their unhealthy actions and has become the trend because of its gradual incorporation in our eating habits. In just twenty years, significant differences among the sizes of products can be noticed and most often seen to have doubled(1). Not only are increasing portion sizes reaching dine-out style meals where hamburger, french-fry, and soda sizes are two to five times larger than originals, but they are making their way into the homes of our public. Recipes found in newer editions of Joy of Cooking, a popular home cookbook, shows fewer serving sizes coming from identical recipes of older editions. This can be explained to show that larger portion sizes are to be anticipated from the recipes.

Food is a major part of everyone’s everyday life. It’s hard to imagine life without the chocolate cake on your fingers or a carne asada taco in your mouth. Enjoying delicious desserts and fast food seem extremely magnificent to eat and spend money buying them. Although, there have been many controversies in the United States on how it’s the largest country with the most obesity regarding children, which affects their health, many people are still going throughout their day snacking. Many people in America are having full course meals with thousands of calories in one sitting not knowing the short term or long term side effects that are going to take a huge toll on their lives. The accessibility and integration that both students and professors need to have in order to enhance this process is essential, besides peoples’ attitude towards the problem and its solutions could be a defining factor for its possible outcomes. If the educational system do not change in a way that it could adapt to the possible changes of the future, the consequences would be sever for students and their academic progress; the changes within the future could be faced through the correct usage of technology; people need to define the limits of technology by working proactively in order to tackle the possible problems due to the overuse of this particular tool; they need to find a way to implement solutions that would successfully overcome the problem in order to face the challenges that the future might bring with it.
At the start of this module, I had no idea what to expect. When I heard the term “Marketing”, only one thing came to my mind: presentations. When I used to be in school, I remembered vaguely that my presentation skills weren’t exactly even close to Suze Orman, who is considered to be America’s most motivational speaker. In fact, they were so bad, I wasn’t sure of doing this course in the beginning. But then it wasn’t like I had a choice. I had opted for BA Hons. Business Management and the course came along with a module named Marketing.
I will try to prepare my lesson 100% to enhance learning. I will try to research my topic and try to integrate different resources and activities to make my lesson engaging and interesting to my students. I am able to use a variety of methods to teach a lesson to the students. This helps the students to get engaged visually, physically and verbally. I did not know, but I really like to use different resources and art materials to create something that will enhance my lesson and able to engage my students throughout the lesson. By creating and using a variety of methods and activities during the center time, I can meet the student’s needs to help them to learn.
