He woke up with absolutely nowhere to go. Yawning, he reached out his arms to open the blackout curtains only to find what he expected; what he hoped was a dream. The room was empty with only the blankets he was sleeping on to fill it. Now, there was no choice but to face the truth: He was moving out again and going nowhere. Even before this began, Leo never really had anywhere to go. Leo’s memory started when he left his family. There was no memory of his family except for his mother’s long, black hair. After that, he was always being moved from family to family, never belonging anywhere. His stomach growled, answering for him. To the gas station, he thought. It was warm outside that day, so he rolled down his windows, playing the same indie music that his friend used to pick on him about. He missed her, but she was gone now and there was no point dwelling over it. Finally, he entered the doors and the smell of cigarettes hit him, reminding him of her. He forced the thought out of his head and bought a granola bar to tide him over until he got somewhere. He felt the vibration of his phone ringing. Startled, he fumbled to grab it out of his back pocket. In his distraction, he ran into someone standing in front of him, dropping his phone. “I’m so sorry,” he said as he bent down to pick his phone up off of the ground. It had a crack in it. Seriously? Flustered, he stood back up and ran off into his car. When he looked down at his phone, he saw that it had been his mother who called. What could she want? Leo decided to ignore it, he wasn’t up for talking to her today. A knocking sound came from his window. He looked up and saw the same person who he ran into in the gas station.
