July 17, 1955 was a day a magical and inspiring kingdom commenced to the public in Anaheim, California. There was a speech that was spoken on that day by the entrepreneur, Walter Elias Disney. This speech persuades the audience that Disneyland is welcoming, and brings happiness and wonder to all minds. Disney’s speech was a brief 4 sentences, but had a lot of meaning. First, he explained what Disneyland is made for. He describes Disneyland for all ages to have fun together. “Youth may savor the challenge and promise of the future” ("Disneyland's Grand Opening." Disneyland's Grand Opening. N.p., n.d. Web. 03 Dec. 2016.). He then described what Disneyland is dedicated to. “...ideals, the dreams, and the hard facts that have created America… …show more content…
with the hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration to all the world.” ("Disneyland's Grand Opening." Disneyland's Grand Opening. N.p., n.d. Web. 03 Dec. 2016.). After years of planning and 12 months of construction, Walt Disney built his first theme park. The establishment of Disneyland is truly historical. The day of the grand opening was at Anaheim, California, July 17, 1955 on a sunny Sunday. About 28,000 people had the chance to witness the creator of all Disney give his opening speech. It was broadcasted on ABC at 4:30pm, being “the biggest live telecast to date” ("Disneyland's Grand Opening." Disneyland's Grand Opening. N.p., n.d. Web. 03 Dec. 2016.). He was introduced by former United States president, Ronald Reagan, in the broadcast. His first vision of Disneyland was when he was on a park bench at a fair with his two daughters, Diane Disney Miller and Sharon Mae Disney, watching them play on the carousel. Walt always loved fairs, he would even go to them when he got old. So then he started envisioning a place where both kids and parents could have fun together. (Stewart, Whitney, and Nancy Harrison. Who Was Walt Disney? New York: Grosset & Dunlap, 2009. Print.) Not only did Disney build a theme park, but he also animated movies. Walt’s been making short films/movies since 1923 with his brother, Roy. His company is famous for creating the first cartoon with sound, Steamboat Willie, featuring the famous characters, Mickey and Minnie Mouse. Disney released their first feature film in 1937, “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.” ("Timeline of The Walt Disney Company." Wikipedia. Wikimedia Foundation, n.d. Web. 03 Dec. 2016.) The company is still creating movies till this day. Disneyland is filled with characters from Disney movies. There’s even special lands inspired by the films; Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, Adventureland, Frontierland, Toontown, New Orleans Square, and Critter Country. When you walk into Disneyland, you go through Main Street. That special place is inspired by his hometown, Marceline, Missouri. There’s a Fire Station building where Walt Disney’s private apartment was. There’s a antique lamp by the window where it was visible to the public, and it would be lit to inform the workers Walt was visiting the park. Today, the lamp is lit every day in memory of him. (Auletta, Kate. "11 Things You Never Knew About Disneyland's Main Street U.S.A." The Huffington Post. TheHuffingtonPost.com, n.d. Web. 03 Dec. 2016.) Walt Disney’s speech appeals to ethos, pathos, and logos.
It appeals to ethos, because he seemed very welcoming. “To all who come to this happy place: welcome...Disneyland is your land.” ("Disneyland's Grand Opening." Disneyland's Grand Opening. N.p., n.d. Web. 03 Dec. 2016.) Also, his posture and tone while announcing his speech. He didn’t seem nervous, he spoke his speech in a happy tone, and he smiled a lot. It appealed to pathos, because his speech makes you feel a lot of emotions. To the people that loves Walt’s movies, it would make them feel happy, because it’s a theme park inspired and dedicated to Disney! It also makes you feel inspired. “...with the hope it will be a source of joy and inspiration to all the world.” ("Disneyland's Grand Opening." Disneyland's Grand Opening. N.p., n.d. Web. 03 Dec. 2016.) It also makes you feel nostalgic about your childhood/past. “Here age relives fond memories of the past...and here youth may savor the challenge and promise of the future.” ("Disneyland's Grand Opening." Disneyland's Grand Opening. N.p., n.d. Web. 03 Dec. 2016.) It appeals to logos, because it mentions the past and future. “Here age relives fond memories of the past… and here youth may savor the challenge and promise of the future.” ("Disneyland's Grand Opening." Disneyland's Grand Opening. N.p., n.d. Web. 03 Dec. 2016.) Also, it states what Disneyland is dedicated to. “...ideals, the dreams and the hard fact which have created America… source of joy and inspiration to all the world.” ("Disneyland's Grand Opening." Disneyland's Grand Opening. N.p., n.d. Web. 03 Dec.
2016.) This speech is persuasive. It uses all ethos, pathos, and logos. The people who’d find it persuasive, are big Disney lovers and dreamers. It’s for the people who miss being a child, and seeks inspiration and wonder. This is how Walt Disney’s speech persuades the audience that Disneyland is welcoming, and brings happiness and wonder to all minds. It includes the persuasive tools; ethos, pathos, and logos. The opening of Disneyland is historical, and is visited by all the people worldwide. Walt Disney would be very proud of the outcome of Disneyland. “Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world” -Walt Disney. ("Walt Disney Quotes." BrainyQuote. Xplore, n.d. Web. 03 Dec. 2016.)
Disney Parks are held to a high standard when it comes to conserving their values of visitor happiness, imagination, and creativity. In 2007, Disney released a commercial that focuses on showing how a trip to Disney encourages children to dig deeper into their imagination. The children in the commercial envision their dreams and then make it a reality with the support of Disney. By transforming traditional adolescence experiences into out of this world adventures related to Disney films, Disney successfully emphasizes how strikingly different reality is while visiting the Parks through their Year of a Million Dreams Commercial.
It would be very hard to not have heard about Disney because he has released so many different kinds of animations, but during the 1950’s Disney began to become less involved in the animation department, entrusting most of its operations to his main animators, the Nine Old Men, although he was always at story meetings. Instead, he started concentrating on other things. On a business trip to Chicago in the late 1940s, Disney drew sketches of his ideas for an amusement park where he envisioned his employees spending time with their children. These ideas developed into a concept for a larger enterprise which was to become Disneyland. Disney spent five years of his life developing Disneyland and created a new company, called WED Enterprises, to carry out the planning and production of the park. In March 1952 Walt Disney got permission to build Disneyland. Construction work started in July 1954, and opened in July 1955; the opening ceremony was broadcast on ABC, which reached 70 million viewers. The park was designed as a series of themed lands, linked by the central Main Street, U.S.A a replica of the main street in his hometown of

Disneyland marked the onset of theme parks in the nation, which was carved out of a fantasy tale and it has been the leader for 60 years. And, there was virtually no competition to the attraction quotient that attracted people and tourists to visit the theme park.
Walt Disney created Disneyland on July 17, 1955, and from this date it was deemed, “The Happiest Place on Earth.” Nearly every child today knows what Disney is and what it represents: imagination. Not all children have the privilege to go to Disneyland, but with the different movies and TV shows now circulating the world, Disney has made an impression on our youth, in the best possible way. Disney represents our children's imagination, creativity, hope, dreams, and debatably the most important one: family bonding time. Walt Disney’s Snow White was one of the first movies to produce retail products, that were distributed before the film release in order to maximize profit, giving Walt Disney the appearance of creating the marketing strategy. One of the most prominent methods of advertising that Disney used, was advertisements directed towards the children alone. For example, when a child would watch Disney’s television show, they would become enveloped and fascinated by what they saw. This would lead to the children asking for their own “little piece of Disney” at home. Disney was able to perfect this method by understanding that in 1955, the majority of the adults were working hard and had no time to spend with their children. Many parents of the working force felt bad for not spending more time with their children which lead to an increase in spending money on their children. Advertisers believed that by “planting the seed” at a young age, the children would not only bring sales now, but as well as in the future. “They have come to believe what RayKroc and Walt Disney realized long ago — a person’s “brand loyalty” may begin as early as the age of two.” (Schlosser 42). For example, our parents grew up going to Disneyland, and now take their own children back to Disneyland, as a tradition from past positive experiences. Walt Disney was able to
Disney promotes sexisim by forcing young girls to live in a patriarchal world. Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, The little mermaid, Aladdin, and Snow White are all examples of popular Disney movies that encourage young viewers that they need a man to save the day. Yes, it’s true that there are recent movies such as Moana and Frozen that prove otherwise, but how long will it take to completely get over the fact that women are mainly viewed as secondary citizens compared to the men? There are countless examples of how Disney movies influence this theme, and how much the female characters’ actions, ideas and thoughts are not included in a Disney movie.
Now that we know what we’ll be learning about, let's jump right into the history of Disneyland. The idea for Disneyland began when Walt Disney visited Griffith Park with his daughters Diane and Sharon. He envisioned building a tourist attraction where adults and their children could go and have fun together. According to
People have always had empathy and Disneyland movies and the theme park changed the way that they ran those things. The opening of Disneyland impacted America in the 1950s since it allowed adults to experience a child’s imagination and its continued importance today can be seen through everything in life. How does Disneyland impact society? Walt Disney had a vision: a place where children and adults could experience what it would feel like to be in a real life fairy tale and let their imagination run wild. When Disneyland opened its gates in 1955, came the change America wanted super badly, to be able to experience a real life Utopia for only one dollar. It changed the way the world saw not only amusements parks, but also a child’s imagination.
Ever since Mickey Mouse was created in 1928, Disney has been at the forefront of the cartoon world. Every youngster has a favorite Disney character or movie. Over the years they have created some of the best movies of all time. However, Walt Disney hasn’t always been successful. He survived bankruptcy in 1922 and had to rethink how he was going to approach his life. I think it is safe to say the approach he took was the right one. One of his first productions was an animated short film Alice’s Wonderland, which turned into what we know as Alice in Wonderland. Mr. Disney’s first attempt at a feature-length animated film debuted in 1937 after three years of production. His masterpiece of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is one of his most awarded movies. Following World War II Disney Production was in a substantial amount of debt. They needed to come out with a new movie that would win over the public of America. They came out with just the right movie, Cinderella, in 1950. This was their biggest hit since Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs some 15 years ago. Because of Cinderella Disney Productions stayed in business and could go on to produce many more heartwarming movies.
M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E! Every Sunday night at seven p.m., this song would come on all over the country. The Mickey Mouse Club a legendary T.V. Show. Mugs, Shirts, Toys, Posters sold. One man started everything. That very special man’s name was Walt Disney.
Disney World is an educational wonderland. Disney World was founded October 1, 1971 by Roy O. Disney and Walt Disney. It wasn’t even thought of until four years after the first park Disneyland was opened in Anaheim, California. Walt Disney productions began looking for land for a second park and eventually found the perfect spot. Disney World is an entertainment complex in Orlando, Florida with four distinctly themed amusement parks, two water parks, and over ten resorts. According to Disney’s millions of guest, it is the master of “edu-tainment,” a way of entertaining and educating guest at the same time. Disney has a large selection of ways to “edu-tain” its guest. Its history, science, and animal exhibits are just a few ways children will learn while having fun. A Disney vacation teaches children new information and reinforces what children are currently learning in school. Disney world has many educational opportunities at its three parks, Magic kingdom, Animal Kingdom, and Epcot.
The first theme park opening in 1955 was Disneyland in California. After one full year of construction demands and a total investment of $17 million the Six thousands invitations to the grand opening had been mailed inviting people to experience the magic Disney had created but when the gates opened the Disneyland was far from magical. Workmen were still planting trees, the paint was still wet and the asphalt wasn’t set. The food stalls and restaurants ran out of food due to the high number of people because of counterfeit tickets being sold. Walt Disney didn’t know didn’t know what was going on because his attention was on the live broadcast. The rides broke down shortly after use. When Walt Disney World opened in 1971 the
Since the company was started, Walt Disney has always envisioned more than just making animated movies. In 1952 the company made plans to build its first theme park known as Disneyland (Disney.com, 2011). With the opening of the park the Walt Disney Company initiated a growth strategy that would take them to the global entertainment company that they are known as today. In 1984 the company brought in a new CEO ...
His iconic history has made him a prominent figure in the pursuit of the American dream. His ability to instill the mindset that Disneyworld is an achievement in society is phenomenal. He created a society and culture through producing movies and amusement parks. His characters in his movies created feelings in America. Then he created a park where the animations came to life. He essentially created a dream come true, which gives hope to the American dream. It is all a process to achieve the dream. Even though the dream has changed over the years, Disney has not. Disney has stayed the same and that is why they are so
His early struggles and determination created the path for him to build the Disney empire and legacy to live on long after his death. Disney’s dreams, visions, and aspirations went well beyond the animation on a roll of film. Those dreams would one day become a reality that lives beyond his death for millions of people every day that enjoy his movies, books, characters, soundtracks and theme parks. Disney made a place that people could escape to from their everyday realities by bringing his dreams to life as well as
