One of my favorite commercials to watch is the Chick-Fil-A commercials. Their commercials are very ironic but at the same time interesting and entertaining. The main purpose of their commercial is to persuade an audience to go and buy their product or maybe convince an audience to come back again and buy more of their product. They are able to influence their audience through the use of rhetorical elements. Rhetorical elements include: the rhetor, discourse, audience, and rhetorical triangle. Their commercials don’t necessarily target one particular audience, they incorporate different ideas into their commercial to target different audiences such as families, and football fans.
In this generation businesses use commercial to persuade different types of audiences to buy their product or to persuade them to help a certain caused. If you analyze commercial you can see how certain things play a major role in the success of a commercial. The ad I decide to analyze as an example is the commercial snickers used during the Super Bowl in 2010;”Betty White”-Snickers. This commercials starts off with guys playing a game of football with an elderly women know as Betty White. As Betty White tries to play football she is tackled to the ground. Her teammates refer to her as Mike when they come up to her to ask why she has been “playing like Betty White all day”. This helps inform the audience that Betty White is not actually playing but instead represent another teammate. As the guys keep arguing Mikes girlfriend calls her over and tells her to eat a snicker. Betty White takes the first bite and then suddenly a man appears in her place ready to finish the game. At the end of the commercial the statement "You're not you when you're hungry" is shown followed by the Snickers bar logo. What this commercial is trying to show is that hunger changes a person, and satisfying this hunger can change you back to your normal self. They use different types
Creators want their commercials, tv shows, movies or articles to draw the audience in. They strive to get your attention using ethos, pathos and logos. A Nike commercial with LeBron James as the star did just that. The commercial about following through with your dreams and becoming big out of nowhere is spine chilling and inspiring.
PepsiCo with almost a 3-minute commercial using Kendall Jenner as the silent communication source, using visual language with all ethnic and race being included using career choices such as a cellist, a photographer and dancer; a song written and sung by Skip Marley “Lions”; not to mention the men in blue was expected to be a hit advertisement by showing it was time to bring the world together as one. To be able to bring peace and understanding to every individual or let it be shown that all people count, not just one ethnic group or race. This advertisement was used to try to defuse the conflict of street protest and the violence that often comes with it, particularly the black lives matter movement. Showing the men in blue there to protect and serve; yet will do whatever it takes to control the ongoing issue at hand. The commercial that I chose as my favorite commercial from the night was the Colgate Save Water commercial. The creators of the advertisement used all three of the modes of persuasion: logos, ethos, and pathos to appeal to the target audience. Knowing that over 100 million people would be tuning in to view the Super Bowl game as well as the commercials, the creators knew what appealing approach to take regarding the audience.
Advertisements are all over the place. Whether they are on TV, radio, or in a magazine, there is no way that you can escape them. They all have their target audience who they have specifically designed the ad for. And of course they are selling their product. This is a multi billion dollar industry and the advertiser’s study all the ways that they can attract the person’s attention. One way that is used the most and is in some ways very controversial is use of sex to sell products. For me to analyze this advertisement I used the rhetorical triangle, as well as ethos, pathos, and logos.
This is a compare and contrast rhetorical analysis paper focusing on a print billboard advertisement and television commercial. The billboard advertisement is centered on a smoking death count, sponsored by several heart research associations. It was amazing how Gatorade uses the image to speak the message to the audience. There was a limited amount of word choice because the image itself did most of the talking. The message is established by the athletic model, specific choice of colors and the typography. Also Gatorade uses Ethos and Logos to attract the buyer’s attention. The advertisements for vodka that the Skyy Vodka company comes out with is filled with sexual tenacity, that draws in both men and women who come across their advertisement. Skyy Vodka is a company who consistently produces and evoke very sexual advertisements. The company’s advertisements repeatedly contains a slim, young, and beautiful females who wear provocative clothing, and in many occasions the women in the advertisement usually has a sexual dominance over the male counterpart. The single underlying reason why Skyy Vodka’s advertisements has proven to be very successful is their use of sex by the way they represent their females. The company do not hold back the appeal to sex and they commonly promote the sexual benefits of drinking Skyy Vodka. The use of sex is used everywhere and we have undoubtedly seen it work from ads in magazines and movies to commercials and merchandise, the fact of the matter is that sex is a great and powerful way to market an item or idea. While the advertisement for Skyy Vodka titled “The Antagonist” seen in People magazine’s May 7, 2007 issue adheres to the usual standards of Skyy ads, it has an underlying theme of white, male supremacy and the female threat to that power. Skyy Vodka has become an object that exemplifies sex to young adult males and creates a sense of confidence as the advertisement suggests that consuming their vodka will result into woman being attracted to them.

In Solos add they tend to use strength and fitness in their ads because that’s what men want to be like so they will drink what they have made, Mount Franklin uses sex appeal in their ads played by Jenifer Hawkins they would attract both men and women because women would want to look like Jenifer Hawkins. In ‘the legend of the solo man’ the message is that if you chase lemons in a container throughout your neighbourhood you will become strong and you will have get solo at the end.
