When people think of both tasty and quick food, they often think of fast food. McDonalds fries are some of the most iconic in the food industry, as they have been around for 70 plus years. This ad aims to resemble the iconic McDonalds fries but it puts its own spin on it by having different vegetables in its place instead. It offers carrots, peppers, as well as other vegetables as healthy alternatives to the beloved fries. Dallas Farmers Market is showing us that there are healthy and cheap alternatives to fast food fries. While this picture does not say many words, it does allow us to get an understanding of it through the ways it has used both ethos and pathos. It demonstrates ethos by having the Dallas Farmers Market logo in the bottom.
Ethos is a category that appeals to connecting one thing to another to help advertise the product.Resse's uses this tactic by including the pretty well -known rapper Mr.lupo linking the fans of mr.lupo to the cereal.People who watch the commercial will recognize mr.lupo and will want to buy the cereal from the commercial he's in.Connecting the two products together gets out more publicity for and the said product.Ethos is efficient in the process of linking two different subjects so they benefit each other.
Within an excerpt from, “The United States of Wal-Mart,” John Dicker explains that Wal-Mart is a troubling corporation. Dicker begins his article by discussing why the store is so popular within the news in an age of global terrorism, coming to the conclusion that Wal-Mart has a huge scope in the United States and that it has more scandals, lawsuits, and stories than any other supercenter. Continually, he goes on to explain that Wal-Mart outsources jobs and their companies demands makes it hard for employees to have livable wages and good working conditions. Furthermore, Dicker addresses the claim that Wal-Mart provides good jobs, by destroying this perception with statistics showing how employees live in poverty and that their union scene
One of my favorite commercials to watch is the Chick-Fil-A commercials. Their commercials are very ironic but at the same time interesting and entertaining. The main purpose of their commercial is to persuade an audience to go and buy their product or maybe convince an audience to come back again and buy more of their product. They are able to influence their audience through the use of rhetorical elements. Rhetorical elements include: the rhetor, discourse, audience, and rhetorical triangle. Their commercials don’t necessarily target one particular audience, they incorporate different ideas into their commercial to target different audiences such as families, and football fans.
The use of rhetoric in today’s world is seen everyday as various groups of people attempt to persuade others in any given topic. One of the most effective rhetorical strategies, if used correctly, is that of sarcasm. Thus is the case between the Grove Press and Coca-Cola as they feud over the use of Coca-Cola’s slogan “It’s the real thing” in an advertisement for the Diary of a Harlem Schoolteacher. Through different strategies, both companies attempt to persuade the other of what they believe is the right course of action.
PepsiCo with almost a 3-minute commercial using Kendall Jenner as the silent communication source, using visual language with all ethnic and race being included using career choices such as a cellist, a photographer and dancer; a song written and sung by Skip Marley “Lions”; not to mention the men in blue was expected to be a hit advertisement by showing it was time to bring the world together as one. To be able to bring peace and understanding to every individual or let it be shown that all people count, not just one ethnic group or race. This advertisement was used to try to defuse the conflict of street protest and the violence that often comes with it, particularly the black lives matter movement. Showing the men in blue there to protect and serve; yet will do whatever it takes to control the ongoing issue at hand. Ethos has to do primarily with credibility. Ethos is an appeal to ethics, and is a means of convincing the audience of the character or credibility of the persuader or content. Examples of this in the billboard advertisement are the sponsors at the bottom: Baron Real Estate, the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, and the American Lung Association. In the Doritos commercial advertisement, logos is seen with the brand title. The Doritos logos is the more powerful of the two based on this information, because of how Doritos is widely known and recognized by all, while many of the sponsors on the billboard aren’t as immediately
McDonaldization is the process in which the principles of popular fast food companies such as McDonald’s are appearing throughout the world in many aspects of our modern society. As McDonaldization sweeps across the globe, The authors of McDonaldization Revisited argue that “‘Americanisation’ is so often a synonym for cultural decline” (Alfino, Caputo, & Wynyard , 1998, p. 8). George Ritzer claims that this is due to the rationalization of society as McDonaldization is meant to signify the optimal fusion of efficiency, calculability, predictability, and control (Ritzer, 2011). The intricacies of the human touch are utterly eliminated from this process, and what is left is an uninviting, cold, and unforgiving concept. When the novelty of something so foreign and American wears off, adaptation is needed to sustain one’s position in other countries. One research design type that researchers might utilize to view McDonaldization would be observation of the adaptation and cultural assimilation across different parts the world. This can be measured with ethnographies, the systematic study of the customs of people and cultures.

Many people do not realize that the jobs in the fast food industry are very dangerous. These are the jobs that no one realizes what it’s like behind the scenes. The workers face high rates of injury in the factories and in fast food restaurants, so we feel like we shouldn’t support the fast food industries. In chapters three and eight of “Fast Food Nation,” Eric Schlosser uses pathos to highlight the fact that fast food jobs are difficult as well as dangerous. The jobs involved with fast food are so dangerous that more regulations should be reinforced more firmly, as well as more laws should be put into place.

Through Doyle’s speech, you can sense his passion for the Domino’s brand and the pain he felt from the betrayal of the employees. He seemed very hurt and apologetic about the incident. He did a great job at describing the situation and explaining step by step, the actions the company has been taking to fix the issue at hand. He used simple and clear wording and he showed that he was very knowledgeable about the incident that took place. He was also very honest with the information he presented to the public.
The McDonaldization of Society The McDonaldization of society may sound somewhat misleading but the term actually refers to the rationalization of society. The use of the word "McDonaldization" just simply indicates that the fast food restaurant is one of many great examples of rationality. Ritzer discusses five dimensions that characterize rationality or a rationalized society: efficiency, predictability, calculability, the use and preference of non-human technology, and the control over uncertainty. The five characteristics can be noticed in various aspects of society which exemplifies the extent that rationality affects our society and societies worldwide. In this paper I will summarize Ritzer's discussion of these five characteristics and give possible examples of each dimension.
