REFLECTION PAPER During the course of this class, I have learned a lot about stress and how it affects different aspects of our lives as human beings. Stress management to me refers to the different techniques and other controlling factors that helps regulate or control a person’s level of stress, in other to improve their everyday functioning. The key concepts that has impacted me so far in the course are as follow; MINDFULNESS: According to (Olpin & Hesson , 2015, p. 99) “Mindfulness is commonly defined as the state of being attentive to and aware of what is taking place in the present. Mindfulness is the process of cultivating appreciation for the fullness of each moment we are alive. It is present-moment awareness.” Mindfulness is the awareness that comes about through paying attention on purpose in the present moment, and trying to do it without judgment. Being mindful especially in class is when we tone out all other distractions, and decide to pay attention to the present event. It is very hard to pay attention to a particular …show more content…
Most people tend to feel thing type of unhelpful thinking get it as a result of provocative situations. The different types of unhelpful thinking styles are mental filters, jumping to conclusions, personalization, catastrophizing, black & white thinking and so on. The one that resonates with me the most is mental filter. This occurs when people focus on the negative aspects of a situation more than the whole story. Hans Selye, the noted stress researcher, once said, “Stress is a scientific concept which has suffered from the mixed blessing of being too well known and too little understood. Physicians, psychologists, biologists, engineers, and students may each have a different meaning in mind when they talk about stress”. One useful definition of stress is that it is a demand made upon the adaptive capacities of the mind and body.

While a physical injury can cause psychological stress, mental trauma can similarly affect an athlete physically. Stress is something that everyone has to deal with in life, whether it is good or bad stress. Stress management techniques are a great way to deal with stress. Some of the stress management techniques that I learned from this course are prioritization, scheduling, and execution. Using these techniques has effectively helped me deal with my own stress. When it comes to dealing with stress I still have many strengths and weaknesses that I will explain. Some stressors I have in my life that I will discuss are psychointrapersonal, social, life events, and daily hassles. Next, I will give my opinion on my post-course survey, and compare and contrast it to my pre-course survey scores. Finally, I will explain my last goals for this stress management course.
Modern life is full of troubles, frustrations and deadlines. People have to suffer stressful from many directions and they seem to be consent to live with stress. Many people think that they can stand with stressful and it is harmless, but it is not. If people live in stress during a long period of time, it has bad effect to health and spirit. Therefore, there is actually that you can protect yourself by understanding stress and how to reduce these harmful effects caused by stress.
