This can be shown by some of the actions taken in the book written by Lorraine Hansberry titled A Raisin in the Sun by the head of the Younger family, Walter. Walter has caused his wife, his mom, the rest of the Younger family, and even himself to go through lots of tough and hard times after getting the money from his fathers life insurance. Walter’s inconsistent communication skills lead to an endless cycle of dismay in the Younger family. Like when Walter had gone out on multiple occasions to drink to ease the pain. Walter starts to say what he has been doing the past few days “Mamma- you don’t know all the things a man with a leisure can find to do in this city. What’s this Friday night? Well- Wednesday I borrowed Willy Harris’s car and I went for a drive”, then Walter continues, ”just me and I drove and drove. Way out. Way past South Chicago, and parked the car and I Sat there and looked at the big black chimneys for hours. Then I drove back and I went to the “Green Hat”, the green hat is a popular bar, and Walter goes there once more that same week. (Hansberry 105). Another example is when Walter caused physical harm to himself because of something Momma said, because Mamma tells Travis, “(Putting her finger on his nose for emphasis) She went out and she bought you a house (The explosion comes from Walter at the end of the Revelation and he jumps up and turns away from all of them in a fury)”, Walter actually broke a glass with his hand in the play (Hansberry 91). Those occasions caused damage to Walter’s physical health because he had been drinking and could have died because Walter was driving under the influence. It also took a toll on his mental health because it made him more depressed, and he started to take it out on Ruth and some other family
