Everyday thoughts or items can bring upon an obsession to be the best or have the best just like money. Money, can change a lot of people's perspective on how they live in life and how their morals are portrayed. Lorraine Hansberry argues that in A Raisin in the Sun money influence one's behavior. Through the characteristics of Mama and Walter, claims that family is more important than money and that happiness is rooted in pride and self respect rather than just money. Different perspectives on money are brought into many situations which can be bad or good and cause an impact on their lives. As explained in Act 1 Walter said to Beneatha, “Have you figured out yet just exactly how much medical school is going to cost?” (A Raisin in the Sun, 1.1.36). This quote explains that he is convinced that he deserves all the insurance money that Mama is going to get because with the liquor store he would earn more money and become rich. But to get the money he has to change Beneatha’s dream of becoming a doctor, yet his intentions are cold hearted he has crushed his sisters dream to fulfill his which threatens their relationship in being a family. Coming to the thought of money, it can make one’s mind go crazy for how much money they can get and what they could do. Walter being one example he goes crazy over the word money and everyone in his family can tell, as said by Mama “One day almost lost his mind thinking ‘bout money all the time…” (1.1.52). Although Mama is getting the money she would do anything to support her family saying “When the world gets ugly enough -- a woman will do anything for her family” this shows that she is willing to do anything just to protect her family even if that means giving or not giving Walter the money, which shows how Mama has a different perspective than Walter who worships money (1.2.75). When the insurance money has come Mama decides to use part of it to buy a house because their recent one does not have enough space that Travis has to sleep on the couch when Walter heard it he went on a rampage of rage. Walter was enraged because he believes strongly that Mama should’ve just given all the money to him so he could buy the liquor shop and be better off. Eventually Walter had done something for the greed of his liquor store and broken the family he tries to fix it by letting the neighborhood buy the house that they had just bought which would get them more money.
