A Raisin In The Sun Character Analysis

Calm. Level-headed. Trusting. Strength keeps a person going on before they are able to breakdown. But, how far can one women go before she too meets her breaking point? In A Raisin in the Sun, shows an earlier generation in which sacrificed so much to give the later generation a better life. Lena Younger is a widowed mother of two who helps keep her family sane. Maybe soon she will have to sacrifice her own sanity in return for her family’s? Walter and Beneatha’s mom lena younger, a level-headed, calm, and trusting who helps keep her family together the best she can. Mama will try to do anything and everything to keep her family sane and together.
Lena will do anything in her power to keep her family sane and together so this means trusting

them. This helps keep the story interesting and moving because she will trust anyone if needed to. Mama being so trusting counters the fact that Walter, Beneatha, and Ruth are so secretive. An example of Lena’s trustfulness was when She found out that walter had lost the rest of the money that she had. Walter had given it to someone to go and get a liquor license but instead, the person took off with the money and made off like a bandit. Lena was heartbroken because half of the money was suppose to go to Beneatha and the rest for suppose to be extra money incase they needed it. Another example of her truthfulness was when she had found out that Ruth was pregnant. Lena thought she was just going to have the baby and be happy like her last child, but it was not. Ruth had been putting down payments for a doctor to abort her baby. After all of this insightfulness, Lena younger was still able to trust them. Mama is a resilient women who will sacrifice anything to keep her family sane, even if that means trusting them when she does not.
When a character like Ruth or Beneatha have something bugging them, they always talk to Lena about what angers them. In any situation, Lena handles it by keeping a level-head. So she becomes the peacemaker in anything that happens in the Younger house. A reason she can be this at peace with herself because people say the older you get, the wiser you get. In other words, because Mama being of a higher age, she will most likely be the one with the most common sense. This can also explain the reason why she can be the head of the family. People that are usually the head of the family are people who can be biased, level-headed, and be intelligent. One example of Lena being level-headed
