People risk their life for something they are passionate about: it can be their job, another person, even an animal. The Challenger space shuttle crew was passionate about what they did and they knew the risks about being in the shuttle and the worst happened to them. Steve Irwin was passionate about animals (mostly predators) and showing them to people. The most unfortunate thing happened to him also as he was stung in the heart by a stingray causing him to pass away. Other people like Will and Halt in the book The Ranger’s Apprentice, risk their lives on multiple occasions. They do so for their country and for doing what they are passionate about, being Rangers and defending their country for the good of the people who live in it. So, …show more content…
Some of these people do it because it is their passion and their love. The members of the Challenger shuttle crew knew that they could die on the shuttle yet they took the risk and did it, even though it led to their demise (The Crew Of the Challenger 1986). Some people do not know the risks that they take when they do something, others do and yet they do it and continue to do so because it is their love and passion. Steve Irwin wanted to be just like his father, who was an Australian naturalist so Steve also became an Australian wildlife expert. He also knew the risks of being around dangerous predators and capturing them. He did this because it was his passion, although his passion ended up killing him in September of 2006 when he was stung in the heart by a …show more content…
There are new businesses popping up all around the world each day; some will succeed and others will fail miserably and may bankrupt the owner. On average about 80,000 businesses fail a year (Ask.com). Other people go to places for their passion and know the risks, yet think they can handle them and something goes wrong. In the book The Snake Charmer, Joe was on an expedition discovering over fifty new species of snakes and other reptiles. The expedition was cut off short when Joe was bitten in the hand by a many-banded krait, killing him. (The Snake Charmer, 8). Sometimes unexpected things happen when you are doing what you love, sometimes harmless, sometimes extremely dangerous. In the movie, The Dinosaur Project, Jonathan Marchant is a researcher that looks for rare and mysterious animals. It is his passion to find new species as he does in the movie, along with a few others, including his stow away son named Luke. They find not only the water creature they are looking for, but many other unknown species and will soon find that they are all extremely dangerous. In the end Jonathan is killed by his partner (Bennett, 2012). Sometimes, unexpected things happen to test if it your passion is truly your passion. Most people will go forth with it till then
Taking risks can be extremely life threatening in someone’s life, whether it be big or small. You have to be brave, courageous, and determined. Some men who have these qualities are Steven Kutcher and Carsten Peter. Steven Kutcher is the creator behind the famous movie Spiderman. He works with different kinds of bugs and trains them for the things that are needed in movies. Kutcher loves bugs and always had a passion for them ever since he was a little boy. Carsten Peter is a photographer who travels takes pictures of dangerous things around the world. One of his most dangerous trips include traveling to Africa and taking pictures of a volcano -- as it was rumbling. With all of these outrageous and unique things that these men do, they have
Everyone has taken risks whether they be big or not, they will lead you down the path you choose in life. In the short stories Beowulf, Black Heart, and The Deep taking risks was a big part in all three. In Beowulf, there is many risks that he took, but the main one was that he risked his life to save the people that he loved. In the second book Black Heart by Mark Brazaitis, the girl risked her life to make friends with something she knew could kill her because she was so lonely. In the final book, The Deep by Anthony Doerr the main character made risks every day because he never knew if he was going to wake up to see the next.
“We all have heard about ordinary people who find themselves in extraordinary situations. They act courageously or responsibly, and their efforts are described as if they opted to act that way on the spur of the moment... I believe many people in those situations actually have made decisions years before.” (Chesley B. Sullenberger, Highest Duty: My Search for What Really Matters) Chesley Burnett "Sully" Sullenberger III; Husband, Father, Captain and Hero. Sully Sullenberger is an author, safety advocate and a hero. Sully is known for the “Miracle on the Hudson” that saved many lives one day in January 2003 when he successfully landed a plane on the Hudson River.
In this case, knowing the ocean can be unpredictable these mean still chose to go through with their journey. Even though the probability of dying is low, taking a risk that could mean losing a life is not worth it. Therefore, people need to be knowledgeable about the activities that they are going partake in. For example, In “To build a Fire,” a man went on an expedition to map out a pathway and he went all alone, along with his dog. This man did not learn enough about his expedition until he got himself involved in the life or death situation. “That man from Sulphur Creek had spoken the truth when telling how cold it sometimes got in the country. And he had laughed at the time!” Consequently, the man had died on this journey, for making decisions that were risky. Another example of getting involved in a life-or-death situation is volunteering to go to war. Although these people want to protect their country, they need to know that there is a risk involved in going to war. For example, In the story “Moral Logic of Survival guilt,” it talks about soldiers who choose to go to war, and either come out dead or
My main objective was to make a risk analysis of the Space Shuttle Challenger Disaster occurred in 1986. My chosen focus area was the risk analysis process of the space shuttle and I was able to understand the risk potential.
“He didn’t think the odds applied to him, we were always trying to pull him back from the edge.” Pg.207 he knew what he was getting into and didn’t care he just wanted to find himself and make himself known as Alex. “Chris didn’t think twice about risking his own life.” Pg. 32 McCandless was a bright young man and just wanted to accomplish his goals. He also met a lot of great people threw his journey to Alaska and they supported him. He paddle a canoe down Mexico, how to hope freight trains, scored a bed at inner city missions. He figured all that by himself so he educated himself and was
The Challenger space shuttle disaster is a tragedy that defined America in the 1980s. At the time, space exploration was growing at a rapid rate, and NASA had successfully completed a numerous amount of missions. The crew consisted of the typical seven members, however this exploration was especially exciting. NASA would be sending its first teacher, Christa McAuliffe, to space. She would be completing two lessons while aboard the Challenger. The popularity of this specific mission caused Americans of all ages to be glued to their televisions the morning of January 28th, 1986. Children were watching the launch from their classrooms at school, and adults were watching from at work or at home that fateful morning.
I’ve known so many people who have had their lives cut short unexpectedly. You never can really know when your last day is, so why waste it doing things that don’t make you happy? So many people settle for less, just because it is easier and more comfortable. Life is short to begin with, and it can be cut even shorter at any possible moment. I think people should take risks and aim for the things that will ultimately leave them satisfied with their life.
Almost everybody as a child had at one time or another been fascinated by space exploration, the great mystery and excitement of the last frontier. Science Fiction led us on to what may be out there. There was a base for reality in space, though, Astronauts. Astronauts were amazing, intelligent people that were bigger than life. They were in the cutting edge of technology, pushing the limits of human knowledge. They did what no one else could. They traveled to places no one else could reach. The fascination with astronauts is what makes space ship accidents so tragic. On January 28th, 1986, Space Shuttle Challenger exploded after liftoff. On February 1st, 2003, Space Shuttle Colombia crashed over Texas when returning back to Earth from a mission. Both of these tragedies were felt all over the world. The destruction of both space shuttles share many similarities.
Vocation, when hearing this word you might think of a special calling, or even perhaps religion, but everyone and anyone has a vocation. They just need to find it. Through these tests and quizzes we can begin to get a glimpse of our inner calling called vocation.
The mind can make people do crazy things in the simplest or the most stressful situations. As shown in the articles, movie, and book, it takes courage and bravery to do what most people will not do or fear to do. In order to overcome fear, one must find courage and be brave, such as David Cooper did in his sea rescue or Joe Slowinski when that pesky brown king snake hung around his neck at the age of 3. In conclusion, it’s easy to agree that courage and bravery drive people to do crazy things.
The Colgan 3407 crash is one of the most infamous examples to analyze in the aviation industry. This flight just so happened to be littered with potential hazards that, if recognized at the time could have broken a link in the error chain and resulted in a safe arrival. For one, both of the pilots traveled far distances to get to the airport that they were required to fly out of. Traveling long distances is a large cause of fatigue. Along with that, the First Officer also had a slight cold, so her condition was not one in which she should have been flying. Their physical conditions likely hindered their mental agility, but on top of that, they also disregarded routine safety practices such as the sterile cockpit rule. Instead of focusing on their duties, they continued their personal discussion and let it become a distraction to their flying. The conditions in which they were flying that night
Throughout history we have experienced disasters as individuals and groups; caused by events such as fires, natural disasters, rape, murder, school shootings, terrorist attacks and bombings where numerous first responders have lost their lives. During one of the deadliest days in history, Thomas Burnett Jr. was on United Flight 93 which was hijacked after leaving Newark International Airport. Mr. Burnett placed a call to his wife and said “I know we are all going to die. There is three of us who are goin...
The greatest power for a human to have, not just a hero is the ability to act quickly in the midst of a dangerous and traumatic situation. It takes a certain type of person to keep a level head, a calm enough mind to keep enough control in a situation that has so much chaos happening. It is often seen that the type of person that has that kind of control will usually seek out a career that continues to give them some sort of adrenaline rush on a daily basis, such as a firefighter, police officer, or even a nurse or doctor in an emergency room. They are referred to as “adrenaline junkies” but...
First, a courageous act must be known to the person that it’s dangerous. Most people wouldn't even think about doing an act that was dangerous even if they would be labeled as a courageous person afterward. If an act is risky it is hard to get someone to do it because the majority of people need not be injured in order to go to work or even just do normal everyday activities. Although most may not actively put their lives in dangerous situations
