A Literacy Event that Changed my Life
All my life I have been a lazy person, doing just enough to get by. Most of the time, in high school, I was content with just a “C”. The only time I wasn’t, was if it was a class I liked, and I paid attention to. If this was the case, I could have received a 99% on a test and been dissatisfied. But, for the rest of my classes, which were most of my classes, that I didn’t like, I never paid attention to or did homework, and I still managed to do well on tests. So basically I didn’t do anything except take tests and I still got satisfactory grades. In school I was so lazy that there could have been a project due worth about 20% of the final grade and I still wouldn’t do it.
Once in my 11th grade English class, we had to do a project about anything to do with the medieval time period. This project was worth a great deal of points. So to try to get a grade without doing anything, I went to Redners and bought an apple pie. I then brought the pie to English class and presented my project. I told them that the medieval people ate apple...
Test video 1 & 2 confirmed the theory that by invading one’s personal comfort zone or the norm of society that it triggers an individual to react in a certain way. Our subjects confirmed this theory by staring at the individuals invading their space, leaning their leg away, shifting away, and even moving entirely in an attempt to regain their intimate space.
Anxiety. Regret. Frustration. Restlessly glancing at the clock, cringing every time I do. Staring at a blinking cursor, waiting for inspiration. Spending a restless night trying to squeeze out something to turn in the next day. This is a process known all too well by me, and most high schoolers in America, one known as: Procrastination. Procrastination is something easily avoided, and yet, seems to be one of the biggest causes for low grades in most students’ lives. It’s a tempting prospect, putting off your responsibilities to do something enjoyable, but it should be avoided at every possibility. Procrastination causes your grades to suffer, causes your mental health to suffer, and causes you to learn bad habits for the future.
I have very few recollections of my early years and the exact age I was able to read and write. Some of my earliest memories are vague on the topic of my literacy. However, I do remember small memories, such as, learning how to write my name in cursive, winning prizes for reading, and crying over every assigned high school essay. Over the last twelve years my literacy grew rapidly with the help of teachers, large school libraries, my family, and so on. There is always room for my literacy skills to grow, but my family’s help and positive attitude towards my education, the school systems I have been a part of, and the horrible required essays from high school helped obtain the level, skills, habits, and processes that I use as part of my literacy
To violate a social norm, i will be greeting strangers in a nontraditional way. This norm acts as a mechanism of social control by getting people to give an approved reaction to meeting strangers. It allows us to be friendly without getting too personal. Normally when we greet a stranger we say something along the lines of, “Hello, how are you?”, and the other person responds by saying something like, “Good, how about you?”. Instead I will respond by giving them some unusual greetings to break this social norm.
Winn could nothing or implement a rewards program that rewards the employee with more than cash rewards; employee recognition program namely employee of the month with a paid day off or a gift card. As part of the employee focused plan, the company should allow employees’ input on how to become more customer focused, efficient, and effective organization. This would greatly improve employees’ satisfaction and help the company achieve its overall goal of providing quality customer service.
It was finally time to head to gym class in the afternoon where we were instructed to take part of a physical test. This test would determine how fit or unfit we are based on a system that was implemented by those with greater authority, on which concluded that it was on such a scale society should be based on. So it was that afternoon that I preformed the tasks that were instructed on to me and my peers. I was able to completed them to my utmost potential which can be consider to be something not so distinctive. It was on this day that I was mocked by one my peers of my lack of ability to preform the instructed physical tasks, that was a no brainer to such a fit individual like himself. It
One poor habit that I happen to share with most college/ high school students in particular is procrastination. This curse of pushing off my work led me to a lower GPA in high school than I really should have gotten. It wasn't because that I didn’t understand my classes; it was just the lack of time and effort I put into them. Not only did prolonging my work affect my grades, but it also altered my life. In fact, procrastination led me to not reaching my goals such as going straight to a four year college. Sadly, this trapped me into showing no great
Life is like a tree, it grows and develops branches and leaves that come and go as we progress. The environments we live in determine which branches wither and fade and which prosper. Every branch holds some form of learned literacy from the end of the roots to the trunk and highest branch. Literacy encompasses many aspects of life.
The story of my history as a writer is a very long one. My writing has come full circle. I have changed very much throughout the years, both as I grew older and as I discovered more aspects of my own personality. The growth that I see when I look back is incredible, and it all seems to revolve around my emotions. I have always been a very emotional girl who feels things keenly. All of my truly memorable writing, looking back, has come from experiences that struck a chord with my developing self. This assignment has opened my eyes, despite my initial difficulty in writing it. When I was asked to write down my earliest memory of writing, at first I drew a blank. All of a sudden, it became very clear to me, probably because it had some childhood trauma associated with it.
Throughout my childhood I was never very good at reading. It was something I always struggled with and I grew to not like reading because of this. As a child my mom and dad would read books to me before I went to bed and I always enjoyed looking at the pictures and listening. Then, as I got older my mom would have me begin to read with her out loud. I did not like this because I was not a good reader and I would get so frustrated. During this time I would struggle greatly with reading the pages fluently, I also would mix up some of the letters at times. I also struggled with comprehension, as I got older. My mom would make me read the Junie B. Jones books by myself and then I would have to tell her what happened. Most
Writing is a form of communication that has changed over the years, whether that is the way it is used or the meaning it has for some people. In the generation that I grew up in, writing has been around in many different ways, such as texting or instant messaging friends. I remember using Facebook at an early age and communicating with my friends and family through a different form of writing. Compared to my elders, the way they were taught and the way they used their writing has changed immensely. Since I grew up in a newer generation than them, my writing experience has been partially different in a good way. My literacy narrative will reflect that difference.
Buddha is the icon of all Buddhists, meaning he is not a God, or an incarnation of God. Buddha is just a man, a mortal being who could face suffering like we can. The Buddha is therefore, not to be worshipped, only followed as he shows his guidance, and a teacher as he shows us the path of enlightenment. We have no God, but just bliss, illusion, and absolute real...
When setting direction to success you must make good choices on the path you are going to choose. The wrong path will put you somewhere that is going to take you off track from your goals. This path can lead to partying too much, getting lazy, and not going back to school. Not doing schoolwork is getting lazy. You must stay on top of schoolwork and not fall behind. If you start to fall behind in schoolwork, it is very hard to find yourself catching up again. Choosing the right path will keep you caught up in work and your mind occupied so you don't fall behind.
In order for any organization to select the perfect applicant for a job position, the organization provides pre-employment testing/screening. Pre-employment testing is beneficial for the company because it can help the company to reduce cost, decrease turnover and save time. Pre-employment testing that is provided must be valid and fair. (Quast, 2011) In addition to the validity of pre-employment testing/screening an organization must never discriminate a person’s age, gender or disability status. Therefore, more organization are becoming more diverse when it comes to employee selections. However, some ethical issue may arise when an organization decides to change their organization into a more diverse organization.
