Many literature explore the complex issues like discrimination and inequality. In the book A Lesson Before Dying, by Edward J. Gaines and A Doll’s House, by Henrik Ibsen, the main characters suffer discrimination and injustice which greatly impacts their lives. Both authors explore the controversial topic and encourage for the hope. The books share similar central idea - knowing the right thing to do and doing the right thing are two very different things – the difference is courage. The main protagonist Nora Helmer in the book “A Doll’s House” is the victim of household slavery. She is constantly controlled and manipulated by her husband Torvald. Nora lived with her husband for over 8 years which made her realize the situation she is in. She lives during 1900s where families are not allowed to divorce or at least it is the least common thing that can happen. However, Nora knowing her, situation decided to free herself from the status of the object. She is the one who got the courage and ended the emotional abuse and control. …show more content…

Jefferson is one of main protagonists, is convicted to the electrocution for murder by twelve white juries. The story develops it's plot where Mr wiggans an educated black teacher is asked to help jefferson to become a worth human before his death. The people in the town are judgemental and sceptical about the idea. Some people support Mr wiggans but no one would help. Everybody knows that stand up against racism is right, however only a few people would stand up and help a victim. Help somebody in such situation requires a lot of courage and faith.
