The responsibilities of a leader are very demanding. One of the greatest responsibilities that a leader will have is to inform his subordinates about the dangers of drug use. A leader must know his people and be able to have trust in his men to accomplish a mission or do a simple task without the fear or doubt that something will keep his men from succeeding. Drugs will cause that downfall of a leader and can lead to situation where human life is sacrificed. another responsibility that a leader has is to uphold the standard of the unit and not demonstrate bad examples and in the end will result in the downfall of his or her respect. another aspect that a good leader should have and demonstrate is that of a good citizen. a leadership should portray the highest level of citizenship. Being a good citizen means obeying the laws of the community you live in and enforcing them to a certain degree as well. The use of drugs is illegal nation wide and so a leader is not setting the proper example or being a good citizen if he or she participates in the use, sale, or is associated with drugs. A leader should not order or tell his subordinates to do anything in which he can not do or does himself. If a leader explains the hazards of drug use and why not to use or be associated with them he should follow his or her advice. This leads right into how to communicate with ones subordinates on how not to and why not to use drugs. When a presenting something he or she should make means of all possible resources that are available. a leaders responsibility is to inform his or her people on the necessary information. The leader though needs to present the information in a way that the attention of individuals receiving the information are not bored and that they obtain the information in a way that is not confusing but is very clear and precise. If the individual presenting the information does not know a lot about the information that is going to be presented he or she is going to have to research it. a leader should be even more familiar with the information that is going to be covered than his subordinates. the use of available resources such as video cassettes, pamphlets, or charts are an excellent way to present information in a way that is clear and precise.
Part 1, The Basics of Leadership, Chapter 1 covers Fundamentals of Leadership while Roles and Relationships are covered in Chapter 2. This section describes and depicts levels of Leadership. We as a military are set apart from other non-military professions in that Soldiers must be prepared to use deadly force and have the courage required to close with and destroy the enemy. All leaders, from non-commissioned officers and warrant officers, to commissioned officers, inherently possess a great responsibility. The repercussions of decisions and actions impact the lives of Soldiers and their families. Additionally, these decisions affect the battlefield environment including enemy and non-combatants, both military and
In The Piano Lesson, written by August Wilson, Boy Willie devises a scheme for buying Sutter’s land. Boy Willie has one part of the money saved up. He will sell the watermelons for the second part. Then he will sell the piano for a third part. The only debating issue in Boy Willie’s scheme is the piano. Berniece does not want to sell the piano. This is the only reason for a defense in Boy Willie’s scheme. Therefore, I will defend Boy Willie’s issue of selling the piano and how that liberates him in reference to his scheme for buying Sutter’s land.
Natural born leaders are almost nonexistent in today’s military. Military members have to complete numerous leadership classes as you progress through the military ranks whether you are an enlisted or as an officer. There are many attributes that people would have to possess to be considered a great leader. Some of those attributes include honesty, respect, trustworthy, and enthusiasm just to name a few. There have been many leaders I have worked with or for over my past 19 years in the Army. One of the most important one would have to be honesty. Honesty is important because if the people that work for you cannot believe what you tell them, they will never trust you or support you. Employees can make or break their supervisor. If they do not like or trust the manager they will not respect them and they will only do the least amount possible. When your employees believe that, you value their opinion and their work ethic. Like you and trust, you they will do anything you ask of them. Whether the decision is right or wrong it is a decision, a leader never want to leave their subordinat...
Boy Willie is the protagonist in the play The Piano Lesson, which is written by August Wilson. He is a foil character to his sister Berniece. He wants to sell the family piano. His biggest obstacle is his past, and his sister. Berniece wants to salvage the piano and keep it as a namesake. The quarrels revolving around legacies is the central conflict of the play. Boy Willie’s “Super-objective” contains two parts: fear and legacy resulting in memory.
I knew I loved to help others but it was not until I was an emerging adult that I knew what my calling was. My devotion to improve the quality of life for those who are disadvantaged is one of the reasons I have chosen to pursue a Master’s in Social Work. After obtaining my masters, I plan on diversifying my masters by getting licensed and becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I would like to study social work because I feel it will lead me directly to one of the most emotionally fulfilling careers available, as well as giving me the chance to combine helping people 's mental well being with their physical
...to sit in her home unused. She loses all ties with her heritage while in Pittsburgh and only praises the piano for it’s meaning from what she sees on the outside of the piano. The song symbolizes how worthy the piano is; it has to be played. The song is also what makes Sutter’s ghost disappear at the end of the play. It plays a very important role in the play in that it was taught to Berniece by her mother. Perhaps her mother appeared to Berniece spiritually at the end of the play to urge Berniece to play the song again to get rid of Sutter’s ghost. Having Sutter’s ghost appear to Berniece doesn’t only motivate her to play the song, but also sends Boy Willie back to Mississippi. After frightening both Berniece and Boy Willie, it is clear to the two that the piano is more significant than they both thought before.
In The Piano Lesson by August Wilson, Berniece and Boy Willie are siblings who both want the piano that belongs to their family. Berniece wants to keep the piano because it holds their family history and it reminds her of the hard work her mother put into the piano. However, Boy Willie wants to sell the piano to buy land from Sutter’s brother because to him the land, like the piano, are both a part of his family’s history and both represent being free from Sutter. Both siblings fight over who has more rights to the piano and deserves it. In August Wilson’s The Piano Lesson, Berniece struggles with being able to embrace her past and acknowledge its importance. Which reveals that instead of hiding the past we should embrace it and let it help
Anyone can tell a soldier what to do, but a good leader can show, direct and motivate their soldiers how to do so.... ... middle of paper ... ... The responsibility of being a leader is a 24 hour, seven days a week job that we all love to do.
The Piano Lesson by August Wilson is taking place in Pittsburg because many Blacks travelled North to escape poverty and racial judgment in the South. This rapid mass movement in history is known as The Great migration. The migration meant African Americans are leaving behind what had always been their economic and social base in America, and having to find a new one. The main characters in this play are Berniece and Boy Willie who are siblings fighting over a piano that they value in different ways. Berniece wants to have it for sentimental reasons, while Boy Willie wants it so he can sell it and buy land. The piano teaches many lessons about the effects of separation, migration, and the reunion of
Those who choose social work as their profession do so for a variety of reasons. In general, they appear to be motivated by a combination of humanitarian and egalitarian values, and by a desire to understand how society works and how to make it better for everyone. Frequently, a person is motivated to become a social worker following exposure to injustice and oppression.(p.16.)
Throughout history, there have been great leaders: civil rights leaders, business leaders, and spiritual leaders who have inspired millions. Leaders and visionaries such as John Lennon or Martin Luther King Jr. fought for unity, love, and made an impact on people through their speeches or songs. Watching these great men touch the hearts of millions has brought out a desire for me to become a C.E.O. and an important leader in the life of others. Not only do leaders have knowledge in politics, in emotional values, and spread a certain message or “vision” to their followers or co-workers, but they have certain special characteristics which make them great leaders or heroes. So, what makes these people different from you and me? Could it be that they are better looking? Perhaps they speak in parables or give great speeches? People have often said to me that a good leader is a person who guides both physically and mentally. Going to the job shadowing program has given me an opportunity to broaden my view on how efficient and effective a good leader can be in the work place. Something that has been shown to me in my many interviews with the board of directors has been that every leader must have the capability to have integrity, listen, a vision, and must be responsible.
We all know that ROTC is about leadership. But what is leadership? What does leadership mean? And how can you become a leader? John Quincy Adams once said, "If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader." Honestly when I decided to transfer to UTC and register for ROTC, I was thinking “what am I getting myself into?” I always had passion for the military, but I couldn’t believe I was wavering a Track and Field scholarship to join an organization I hardly knew anything about, apart from commercials, documentaries and films. However, the more I think about it, the more I realize that during the past two years I’ve learned so much about myself and the qualities it takes to become a great leader and a great person.
There is no one motivating factor that stered me to the field of social work. It was the totality of events and experiences in my early childhood that opened my eyes to the field of social work. The decision to pursue a career in social services was decided upon after many years of reflection, contemplation, soul searching, and questions. Before beginning the journey into my dream career, I ask myself a series of questions. What can I offer as a social worker? Can I set aside my own perceptions and values? What populations or situations would I feel uncomfortable working with, if any? Am I empathic enough to not only feel but understand? What is my motivation for pursuing a career in social services?
Our leadership in this world has changed and affected us greatly. Leadership is being about to lead an organization with many people and to have control in the right way. “ The Leader of the Future” a book by Peter F. Drucker gives us information on why and how it is to be such a great leader. We need better leaders and we need them to guide us and help us along the way. Without leadership, our world would be in such danger and we America would be going through a lot.
I would like to start my essay with the words of Peter Ducker that “Management is doing things right; leadership is doing the right things”. I think these words perfectly outline the difference between a manager and a leader which is quite often confused. Being a good leader is something that I aspire which can not be achieved overnight and requires lots of energy and dedication. This question often came to my mind: how should I become a good leader and what should I do for it? There has been many debates whether leaders are born or bred but actually I agree with the thought of Jim Collins that good leaders (level 5 leaders) have special seed which they need to develop compared to others. However reaching level 5 leadership and becoming an outstanding CEO of the company is a pinnacle for me which might not be even realized however I do believe that you can become a good leader within your company, within your circle and within your team. I aspire to become level 5 leader however in order to get there I need to constantly work on myself.
