A Fresh Start
A little boy named Braxton Lee Young was going into foster care. Braxton’s dad relinquished his rights on Braxton when he was two years of age. Braxton lives with his mom and currently 12 years of age. Braxton’s mom neglects him. His mom is never home.
Braxton hardly goes to school and when he does Braxton always wears the same clothes on. The poor little boy had a weird and bad lifestyle and Braxton couldn’t help it. The school counselor always wondered about him but has never had a chance to talk to him. Now was a perfect time she thought.
The office called Braxton in to go to the Counselor’s office. He was nervous and didn’t know what the counselor wanted. The whole time Braxton has been in junior high he hasn’t said much so he knew he wasn’t in trouble. Braxton could help but to wonder.
Braxton was shaking and he bit the side of his mouth. The counselors name was Mrs. Aubrey and as far as I know she was really nice he thought over and over. Braxton walked in and Mrs. Aubrey signaled for him to sit down. He had a worried look to his face.
“Hi Braxton, how are you? I don’t think we have met before… I’m Mrs. Aubrey.” Said Mrs. Aubrey.
Braxton sat there speechless. Mrs. Aubrey has a big heart for people in need and she knew there was something up to Braxton.
“Is everything okay?” she asked, “You don’t seem to talk much. I want you to know whatever you say to me is between you and me.”
The sad boy starts sniffling and tears gathered in his eyes. Braxton gains the courage to say “you don’t know do you?”
“Know what, what are you talking about?” she says concerned.
He still is worried and has tears in his eyes. “you promise you wont say anything?”

He loved his new parents but still cared for his biological mom. He knew that she wasn’t the best for him. Months flew by and Braxton slowly started to call his new parents mom and dad… boy were they jumping up and down! Braxton made up his mind and wanted to be adopted by the Smiths’. He was ready for a fresh start. Goodbye with the old and in with the new life God has started for him.

Social agency and the court authorizing the placement, and caregivers are responsible for the continuing monitoring to ensure that the child in placement receives adequate care and supervision (Downs, Moore and McFadden, 2009, p.275). Services for children in foster care are a teamwork effort of the different parties involved (Downs, Moore and McFadden, 2009). Unfortunately in Antowne’s situation the agency and the court system failed him because although he was removed from his mother, the abuse and neglect continued. The systems involved did not provide the safety net Antwone needed.

Of course, this had an effect on her children. Her middle son, Ezra, was the favorite child of the family. He was always trying to pull the family together. One of his tactics was through a dinner- he loved to cook, so he always tried to make a nice dinner for his family, that way they could enjoy one meal together. However, the family never made it through a single meal. Cody, the oldest son, was extremely jealous of Ezra. Every single thing that went wrong in his life, he blamed on Ezra, even though most things had nothing to do with Ezra.
