A Crude Awakening - The Oil crash
This paper will explore the reasons for why the Oil Crash is a social problem and try to come up with solutions as to what we can do in order to keep our civilization going the way it is, keep the stability of the economy and sustain the natural environment. Sustainability means that we should be able to meet the demands of our current lifestyle and live an adequate life while also allowing the future generation to do so in their time without compromising them (Oskamp, p.496). There are many ways in which the society can get affected if it crashes from the oil crash. Increased unemployment, poverty, bankruptcy are all things that occur when society collapses (Savinar, 2006). The problem here right now is that not 1 out of 100 people know of the problem we are facing and if we wait until peak oil to come before we start looking for any solutions, there will be very serious economic consequences (Bartlett, 2006). Through this paper, I will be first pointing out all the facts of what problems will arise once we’ve reached peak oil and used up most of it. Then the second part of this paper will try to focus on what solutions we can come up with to prevent this and sustain our current lifestyles.
Peak oil will only last for a few more years and will soon decline faster and faster to a point where we will have no more oil left in the following years to come (Campbell, 2006). As Campbell has stated, the bulk of oil was only made in 2 brief time periods of the earth’s history and these times were 90-100 million years ago. He has also stated that from those time periods, we are now using up all the oil we’ve discovered in about 1-2 centuries which are only a fraction of the time it took to even create th...

In conclusion, Oil impacted social change over time, which helped us grow as a society. If you took my proposal into consideration I would really appreciate it. My proposal is going to have all of the factors of Oil and how oil has change our state. After reading the documents that you have given me I was able to answer question “What story should be told”. As H.L hunt always said “money is just as way of keeping score”. - H.L

Poverty is a serious issue in Canada needs to be addressed promptly. Poverty is not simply about the lack of money an individual has; it is much more than that. The World Bank Organization defines poverty by stating that, “Poverty is hunger. Poverty is lack of shelter. Poverty is being sick and not being able to see a doctor. Poverty is not having access to school and not knowing how to read. Poverty is not having a job, is fear for the future, living one day at a time”. In Canada, 14.9 percent of Canada’s population has low income as Statistics Canada reports, which is roughly about two million of Canadians in poverty or on the verge of poverty. In addition, according to an UNICEF survey, 13.3 percent of Canadian children live in poverty. If the government had started to provide efficient support to help decrease the rates of poverty, this would not have been such a significant issue in Canada. Even though the issue of poverty has always been affecting countries regardless of the efforts being made to fight against it, the government of Canada still needs to take charge and try to bring the percentage of poverty down to ensure that Canada is a suitable place to live. Therefore, due to the lack of support and social assistance from the government, poverty has drastically increased in Canada.

The United States has had several scares throughout its history in terms of oil, most turn out to be over exaggerations of a small event. However, these scares highlight a massive issue with the U.S. and that issue is the U.S.’s dependence on foreign oil. Why does it matter that our oil should come from over seas? In a healthy economy this probably wouldn’t be as relevant, but the U.S.’s economy is not exactly healthy at the moment. There are 4 things that I would like to address: what the problem is, how it affects us, what some solutions are, and what solutions I feel are best.

A. Scientists predict that in the next several decades the world will run out of oil. According to the article How Fast is the World Running out of Crude Oil by Umut Newbury accessed from the EBSCO Host database states that
" Oil is the life blood of our modern industrial society. It fuels the machines and lubricates the wheels of the world’s production. But when that vital resource is out of control, it can destroy marine life and devastate the environment and economy of an entire region…. The plain facts are that the technology of oil-- its extraction, its transport, its refinery and use-- has outpaced laws to control that technology and prevent oil from polluting the environment…" (Max, 1969). Oil in its many forms has become one of the necessities of modern industrial life. Under control, and serving its intended purpose, oil is efficient, versatile, and productive. On the other hand, when oil becomes out of control, it can be one of the most devastating substances in the environment. When spilled in water, it spreads for miles around leaving a black memory behind (Stanley, 1969).
