A Comparison of Half-Cast, Nothings Changed, and Two Scavengers in a truck, Two beautiful People in a Mercedes
All three poems express their anger towards discrimination:
'Half-Caste' and 'Nothings Changed' are written about how racism has
affected them and their lives, 'Two Scavengers...' express views on
class discrimination.
'Half-Caste' is written as if it is been spoken in a Caribbean
dialect, giving the impression the speaker is of a mixed race.In the
poem he illustrates the way he feels about how he is treated as a
''half-caste,half person.'' The longer stansas in the poem tell the
story of how his race has affected his life, and the way he feels
about himself, and the shorter stansa are used to introduce and close
the poem. The poems irregularity in terms of lay out, may illustrate
the irregularity this man feels in his life,he feels he doesn't feel
accepted in either the black or the white community. He quotes ''am i
half a man?''This proves his distress, and although he uses humour the
poem has a serious message.Agard uses repetition effectively thorught
the poem, for example, ''explain yuself, wha you mean?'' This line is
used in every stransa.Agard alkso uses surreal comparissons to express
his emotions to the reader such as ''black key...white key''Here he is
contrasting the black race, and the white race and wander where he
stands in the middle.
'Nothings Changed' by Tatamkula Afrika also uses surreal ides to
illustrate his point. For example, ''A bomb, to shiver down the
glass.''His ideas and the use of harsh vocabulary really shows the
reader what he thinks! The poem is not written to be read in a certain
dialect as this might add an element of humour and this poem is not
intented to be funny. This is in contrast to the way 'half-caste' is
written, althught they both use similar ideas. The dis-oganisation and
lack of uniformity in terms of the poems rhythm and rhyme pattern
suggests the same ideas about the society they live in.
'Two Scavengers...' In this poem Felinghetti uses no uniform
quite a bully because Helen says, "for a long time we did all the work
In the two versions of “Dark They Were, and Golden-Eyed” by Ray Bradbury, the plot is developed differently in some ways and similarly in others. In the radio play, the plot is developed faster through sounds and dialogue. It also adds music to create stronger tone. In the short story, the plot is developed slower through thoughts, without music. In both versions of the story, dialogue is used to establish parts of the plot.
Compare the ways in which William Shakespeare and Robert Louis Stevenson present change in the main protagonist in Macbeth and The strange case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.
This 1950's theatrical presentation was directed by Elia Kazan and written by Tennessee Williams. It is about a southern bell by the name of Blanche Dubois who loses her father's plantation to a mortgage and travels to live in her sister's home in New Orleans by means of a streetcar called Desire. There she finds her sister living in a mess with a drunken bully husband, and the events that follow cause Blanche to step over the line of insanity and fall victim to life's harsh lessons.
A Streetcar Named Desire was written by Tennessee Williams in 1947 and it is a play that takes place after the second World War in the South of the United States; New Orleans, Louisiana. The play ultimately explores on the conflict amongst Blanche Dubois and Stanley Kowalski as they both have a connection to Stella Dubois. Blanche being her sister, and Stanley being her partner. This play is considered to be a tragedy. Twelfth Night was written by the World renowned William Shakespeare and it explores the story of siblings being separated after a tragic accident at sea. ‘Without character there can be no drama’ is the overall theme of this comparison as every character contributes to a story, causing drama to arise in one way or another. This piece will ultimately explore the similarities and differences between Viola from ‘Twelfth Night’ and Blanche from ‘A Streetcar Named Desire’. Although Viola and Blanche come from two different books written by two different authors in different time periods, we can draw the conclusion that they both possess the theme of deception.
In William Shakespeare’s play, Macbeth, two main characters experience a change that alters their roles and brings out the worst in them. After Macbeth is promised greatness by three witches on a heath, Macbeth and Lady Macbeth try to achieve his prophecy. Because of their over-reaching ambition, they commit numerous murders to obtain their goal of becoming royalty. In order to cope with the guilt, Macbeth and Lady Macbeth undergo a role reversal, where they exchange characters and amount of ambition.
...d Macbeth change throughout the play, but in the end guilt takes over them, making them both weak in the end.
Technology and the modern era have brought out a whole different side to all sorts of things. From the global economy to state boundaries, the world has undergone a widespread wave of change. And with the passage of time, human beings are evolving at a continuously transitioning motion. In his book ‘Stumbling on Happiness’, Daniel Gilbert has, under the title “Reporting Live from Tomorrow”, described this very circumstance that our societies face today. The premise for his article is the ‘now’ that all of us are experiencing each day. In the article, “Attention Deficit: The Brain Syndrome of our Era”, Restak uses the same premise as a setting for his work.
Short stories are a form of literature works that authors use to communicate various themes and issues to the reader. As such, it is common for different short stories authored by different people to have a central meaning or theme that differs from each other. In addition, the way the author portrays his/her central theme or meaning would differ from the way other authors would craft their short stories to best portray their central meaning. While some would use characterization as a means of portraying the theme of their story, other authors employ the use of symbols to better communicate their theme. However, some slight similarities can always be drawn between short stories. ‘Hills like White
Thinking back to our childhood, we all remember hearing many kinds of fairy tales. Some of them inspired us others confused us, and most of them taught us valuable lessons. Through out centuries tales and stories have been used as a valuable tool to pass on our culture to new generations. There is a strong belief that these fairy tales mirror and influence society. All cultures interpret tales in their own unique way. They add and subtract various aspects of the tale to fit the needs of their particular society. The same tale in the United States is different from the tale told in Asia. A good example of tale evolution can be seen in one of the most famous tales ever told which is “Cinderella”. As a professor of women’s history Karol Kelley points out in her essay Pretty Woman: A Modern Cinderella “There are some 700 versions of Cinderella”.This fairy tale as many others has been changing for many years, and in recent years Cinderella has come under some criticism for its depiction of women’s roles in society.

Hansel and Gretel is the tale of two children who get lost in the forest, and stumble upon a house made of sweets, where a witch resides. They are tricked into staying with the witch, before she shows her true colors, and tries to eat Hansel. In the end Gretel outsmarts the witch, and cooks her in and oven and frees her brother. A simple story, with a simple resolution. What happens when take that simple story and add in a ton of violence, gore, swearing, and guns? You get Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, a film that takes the concept and turns it into a funny action movie.
...ater on acting. Each had faced obstacles that need to overcome to achieve their dreams. One would need to go through gaining knowledge and outsmarting his adversaries and another through his physique and charisma. However, both man accomplish their dreams and went to do greater things
Have you ever realized you’ve loved someone after it’s too late? Or perhaps you’ve been so completely engrossed in one thing and you can’t focus on anything else. In the two short stories Concerning Love by Anton Chekhov and The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, the narrators deal with these feelings. The predominant narrator in Concerning Love meets a married woman, Anna, through a friend and realizes his love for her after it is already too late. The narrator in The Yellow Wallpaper has nervous depression and is so caught up in the mysteries of the wallpaper of her room that everything else in her life seems distorted. Both stories tell of two very different lives however, the characters, setting of the story have many striking similarities and differences as well.
