Basketball is a sport that requires hands and soccer is a sport that require legs. They similar because both require players to pass around the ball and score. And why are they different? Because you can only use your hands in a basketball game, whereas you can only use your foot and your body in a soccer match. Each summer when I was young, my mom would sign up for me and my brother to try out different sports. And one of the summer, my mom told us we are going to play a sport called rugby. When I first started to play rugby, I didn’t know what this sport was about. First day of practice, the field was filled a few puddle of mug because it was raining the day before. Therefore, we all try to avoid to get ourselves dirty by avoiding the muggy spot. As we were learning how to pass the ball and running around with the ball in our hands. The coach stopped us and tell us all to roll ourselves into the puddle of mug, because he see us all are afraid of getting dirty. He also tell us that if we want to play this sport, we can’t be afraid of getting dirty. That day I found out that rugby is a very interesting sport and also very dirty. After that summer, I start to like rugby and want to get better at it. Therefore, I joined a team to play with. At first I thought rugby was just a sport where players have to carry the ball and getting themselves dirty. But then I found out there tackles and different position and plays we have to learn. At first tackle is quite painful, but as I keep playing my shoulder got stronger and used to
While over the spring break my father, boyfriend, and I partook in supporting our home towns local ice hockey team the San Antonio Rampage take on Grand Rapids Griffins. However, while going through the procedure of finding our seats, attaining snacks and beverages, and watching the game I was able to examine different kinesiology components throughout the event. Just by entering the AT&T center one can be overwhelmed by the lights and excitement of everything going on however, the organization going on here is very extensive and if broken down they can analyze how everything can relate to sports kinesiology in some way.
The biggest similarity is the object of both games. To outscore the other team. The score is determined by points called goals. Ice hockey and lacrosse are contact sports. Opposing teams will try to “check” each other. This means that the teams are trying to literally knock the ball or puck out of possession of the other player. If a check becomes too violent, a penalty, which is another similarity between the two sports, will be called. Due to the aggressive nature of both sports, helmets and extensive padding are required to play without injury. Another thing they have in common is that the possession of the puck or ball is determined by a face-off. A face-off is when two opposing players battle for the puck or ball. Goalies are an essential part of both sports because the goalies are the last line of defense before the opposing team can score a goal. The goalie crease, in ice hockey as well as lacrosse, cannot be entered by any players because it gives the goalie an interference-free zone. Any goal scored by a team that is made from the goalie crease will not be counted. A final similarity would be that both sports have professional leagues. Ice hockey’s league is bigger than lacrosse, but they are both just as competitive.
My whole life I have played a sport. Whether that be soccer, or lacrosse, or field hockey. Playing a sport and being a part of a team was something I always knew how to do. I always knew how to play the sport as a team and not score on your own. My lacrosse team consisted of about 18-19 girls: 6 offenders, 6 defenders, 2 goalies, and the rest were mid-fielders. My favorite position was mid-fielder, I always enjoyed playing all the part that consisted of being on the team. I loved playing both defense and offense, I liked assisting with goals and I also loved stopping goals. My travel team taught me things that I did not learn anywhere else, my team taught me the true importance of teamwork, how to be a leader, or how winning is not always the most important thing.
Despite the fact that ice hockey and roller hockey both have the word hockey in common, there are extreme differences between the two sports. There are the obvious differences like one being played on ice and the other on a plastic surface, but many of the differences are only noticed by people that have played both sports.
In 1994, the Canadian Federal government compromised and voted to make hockey Canada’s National Winter Sport and lacrosse Canada’s National Summer Sport. Which Sport should be named Canada’s true national sport? Hockey is in the blood of all Canadians. Millions can vividly remember the first time they put on a pair of skates and stepped onto the ice. Providing nation-wide entertainment, Canadians are overcome by emotional realization that “Canada is hockey.”- Mike Weir. Generations of Canadians were brought up listening to Hockey Night in Canada every Saturday evening on the radio. It is more than just a sport in Canada, it defines the culture. Look no further than the five-dollar bill. One will observe a group of children playing a game of hockey on a frozen pond. The sport is part of Canada’s national identity.
Hockey is a sport of finesse, toughness, and speed all wrapped up by player talent. Hockey can be played on any surface, though ice and hard rubber "roller turf" are the two major fields currently played on by professionals. All though to some these two variations on hockey may seem the same, they actually have many differences. Roller hockey contrasts that of ice in several ways. While the playing surfaces are the most obvious difference, number of players, periods, and skates also vary.
Ice hockey, just like any sport, requires both physical and mental skills in order for the athlete to perform to the best of their ability. Positions in ice hockey include the goaltender, wingers, centers, and defensemen. Each position requires different skills in order to succeed in the role and perform together as a team. There are three zones of play, the defensive, offensive and neutral zones, where players are expected to execute different strategies based on their position on the team. Physical conditioning and developing psychological abilities gives players a competitive edge.
...ry to a degree. Canada and Australia both have separate versions of the game. Soccer, though, is universally the same, no matter where you go. Soccer even has a spot in the Olympics while football does not. Also both sports’ athletes can earn outrageous amounts money and rise to super star fame nationally, like Peyton Manning or Tom Brady, and internationally, like Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi. Both games have a distinct way of capturing an audience’s excitement and can both be rather dull to the uneducated eye. Football breaks up the action into short, exhilarating periods of play followed by a rest. Soccer, though, never stops going, with 90 minutes of close to uninterrupted play. In conclusion, both sports have their own rules, athletes, and appeal even if they are drastically dissimilar. Both capture the dreams and inspiration of people all over the world.
Both sports have similarities such as, they both have coaches, a referees, assistant referees/lines men. They both contact sports, each team has 11 players, they both outdoor sports played on a rectangular field on grass, each team has to pass the ball towards the opposite direct till a goal is scored and there are no limit to goals. Last but not the least both sports have offensive, defensive and goalkeeper.
Athletes who play football share the same goal as athletes who play soccer: score the most goals to win the game. In football, there are two areas on opposite sides of the field where one can score points by bringing the football over the goal line. Soccer shares this same concept by having two nets on opposite sides of the field where one can score a point by kicking the soccer ball into the net. Also, both sports share the concept of having an offense and defense, and both sports each have eleven players on a team on the field at a time. These are only few of many similarities between these two sports, but in actuality, they are significantly different. The rules, rituals, and concepts of both sports distinguish themselves from each other.
They both run over 4 miles every game they play. As you can see, since they run a lot they would probably have to use a lot of skill to keep up the running as they go. They both use very complicated skills in order to get [past the defensive team and to be able to score. In conclusion, Soccer and lacrosse are actually very similar to each other and probably the most similar over any sport you can think of.
It is a hard-hitting, fast faced and ability testing sport. “For many Canadians hockey is more than a sport – it's a way of life. Hockey parents spend every spare moment shuffling their children to and from the rink for every practice and game. Hockey players spend their entire lives improving stick handling skills, trying to skate with a little more speed, and studying the game with the hope that they can one day glide across the ice in front of throngs of screaming fans” . Hockey is seen as a Canadian symbol and national sport, and many believe has greatly impacted Canadian history, identity and culture.
The fight for women's ice hockey players to earn respect and acceptance has been hard fought over the past one hundred years. Women have constantly been told that they can not play with men and that there sport is a second rate version of the men's game. The road of women's ice hockey has had many ups and downs but has perservered to the present day and is stronger than it has ever been. The future of women's ice hockey is bright thanks to diligence and hard work of those who kept it all going. Ironically women began playing the sport side by side with men over 100 years ago right at the sports inception. One of the oldest action pictures featuring ice hockey shows men playing with women. Part of the reason that women enjoyed early participation with men is because of the way that the public viewed the game. At the start, hockey was seen as a recreational activity. Women have been routinely barred from participating in serious and competitive sport, but if the game is viewed as merely recreational then women are more accepted. In the 1890's this is what happened to the sport of ice hockey. Suddenly the game was more than recreation and organization entered, rules were drawn and leagues were formed. With the new structure came segregation of the sexes. As the sport progressed for the men, the women were left behind. In spite of all this, the first all female organized game was played in Barrie, Ontario in 1892. Women's ice hockey slowly limped on up until the 1920's.
Furthermore, Soccer is similar to American football. They both play in a rectangular shape field of natural grass or artificial turf, marked with white lines. They both have two goals on each end. In American football, they kick the ball as well. They kick it at the start of each half and after making a touchdown. Like similarities, they also have differences.
(I have worked for PCAHA for….years) I work for the PCAHA as an ice hockey referee. Through several years of experience I learned how to quickly adapt to different situations while keeping the game fun. When working with younger referees, I share my experiences and teach them how to avoid similar problems I have encountered. (Learned how to be equal/fair, calm)
