People always say how they are different from another generation. My generation and my parents aren’t the same, of course. I find it immensely fascinating that a group of people born within the same twenty year frame could all be so similar in how they were raised, thus leading to how they act becoming similar. After reading about Generation Y and Generation Z, two generations that somewhat overlap, I would consider myself to have a closer connection with Generation Z, but have noticed many people I know would fit more closely with Generation Y. Generation Y are the people born between 1980 and 2000. Primarily, Generation Y is the current “twentysomethings” of our nation. Generation Y is wildly known for their fears of growing up. Many of …show more content…
This generation was born between the 1990s and 2015. Generation Z is more technologically inclined. This could be viewed as a negative aspect, but it also gives Generation Z the advantage of being able to communicate with people from all over with the connect that social media provides. This will aid Generation Z to become good business owners, travelers or the multitude of opportunities that require people to communicate with those who may be from the opposite side of the Earth. Generation Z is also more realistic, they are not as naïve to the real world as Generation Y. Growing up around terrorism and major economic recessions could serve as a probable cause. A major difference between Generation Z and Generation Y is that Generation Z is immensely more driven to make change and be superior to their elders. They enjoy learning, but they also want to teach themselves material. It is generalized that Generation Z is reckless and wild, considering they have changed the ideas of dating and made many “loving” relationships revolve around the aspect of lust. This could be due to Generation X and Y’s issue with staying together, leaving the United States with a 50% divorce rate. Many Generation Z child come from broken homes leaving them with the problems of trusting a significant other and staying together. Generation Z is a more ethnically diverse generation than others; most of the people are mixed with …show more content…
I can connect with Generation Y because I try to take advantage of experiences and exploration. I try to adhere to every opportunity that I have provided myself with and not just settle with the first option. I have grown up feeling virtually limitless. I have never been told that I could do something that I strived and aspired to do. Therefore, I try to take advantage of all the opportunities I have worked hard to be granted. Like Generation Z, I am ready for my future and eager for what is in store for myself. Since a young age I have known that I wanted to be an orthodontist or dentist. Up to this day this is still the career that I strive to obtain. Generation Y has a struggle with taking the steps into adulthood and even just thinking about it. My sister was born in 1994, but she is a true member of Generation Y, it has taken her extra time to really figure out who she is and what she wants to become. She has changed her major three times and has already attended two different colleges. For myself, this has never been a struggle because I am so driven to go to a specific school to have a certain occupation. I also excel in learning and am always looking forward to things that allow me to grow mentally. I inquire that maturity and awareness to current events and world issues are part of a major key in what makes Generation Z so mature
In the article “It’s Not About You” by David Brooks, Brooks takes a different perspective on this current generation. Many of the past generation huff at the thought of the new age group. Brooks has an incredible, somewhat biased opinion relating to the new generation, which is not unusual since he is from the current generation. Brooks discusses and explores the idea that the current generation is expected to grow up, get educated, get married and then have children. Brooks speculates that the new generation will be less family-orientated and maybe more adventurous and more about just living life and getting to experience things. Overall, Brooks wrote something different from most stories regarding generations.
To be considered a millennial, an individual has to be born within the years 1982-1999. I’m considered a millennial myself (1997). With the advancement of technology, Generation Y has the upper hand automatically on any prior generation. Generation Y also has an advantage because of the way they insist on getting what they want. Instead of Generation Y adapting to the work environment, the workplace will have to change in order to retain young talent. The workplace will have to adapt because according to Matchar, the American workforce will be 75 percent Generation Y workers by
The author utilizes various articles that target Generation Z in a negative manner, such as “Is Google Making Us Stupid?”, “The dumbest Generation: How The Digital Age Stupefies Young American and Jeopardizes Our Future” and “Alone Together”, revealing that this current generation is frowned upon by researchers as well as older generations, labeling them as “internet hungry screenagers with nothing but addiction to social media”. She use that as a backbone to older gen.’s non-stop complaints about gen. Z. She uses various opinions of successful CEOS and researchers to prove why people should put faith in gen.
Baby Boomers (born 1946-1965), and Gen Y (born 1979 to 1994) is at the bookends of the work force, and with Gen X ( born 1965-1978) in the middle. In the bad economy managers are trying to get away reducing the work force (Anne, Laura, & Karen, 2009).
Generation Ys or Millennials – This generation is the first to have a global touch and mindset.
But what is generation “Z”? Generation Z is the “youth” of the current generation. They are the generation of people born between the years 1995 until now. This means they are 19 years of age or younger. We as “Generation Zers” are the most recent and modern generation that has ever existed. We revolve around technology; we listen and are influenced by the media every day. It has been recorded that we see 10,606 pictures per day, these all affecting us in some way or another. Whether it be through what we think, what we wear, how we talk to one another, what we eat and how or if we exercise, it will an...
Every person belongs to a generation: you associate yourselves with a particular set of people usually based on age such as “Baby Boomers” from 1946 to 1964, “Generation X” from 1965 to 1979, and “Millennials” from 1980 to 2000, (Smola, 364). Parents’ generations differ from their children, and sometimes within their significant other. My parents, separated by two years, are both considered “Baby Boomers”, and my sister and I, also separated by two years are both considered “Millennials”. “Generation X” separates our generations, and as you can assume there are many differences between the two: “Baby Boomers” experienced the immense development of the economy and education (Kupperschmidt, 4).
Some characteristics of the baby boomer generation are that they are extremely optimistic and are highly involved, their view of work is that it is self-fulfilling, satisfaction for them comes from being able to make a difference, they are primarily intrinsic, they prefer face to face discussion, they have a very consensual leadership style and they tend to be very loyal people. Characteristics of the millennial generation are that we appreciate clarity and flexibility, we view work as a mechanism for success, we prefer recognition for the work we preform, we tend to be very extrinsic and expect immediate praise, we rely heavily on technology and having a constant connection to the world going on around us, we have a passive-aggressive leadership style and we tend to not be very
A single generation consists of every person born within about a twenty year period. The three generations currently living on the planet are the baby boomers, Generation X, and Generation Y, also known as millennials . Baby boomers are the oldest generation still living. They are people born some time between 1940 to 1960 (Newman). This generation is the generation of folks who fought in World War II. After returning home from war, there was a great surge in population in the United States, hence the name Baby Boomers. Their children, Generation X, were born between the early 1960’s to the early 1980’s (Newman). This generation can also be known as the Post-World War II generation. The last generation, children of Generation X, are known as
The Baby Boomer generation is referred to as the “me” generation wanted their children to be spoiled with every possible option. Like helicopters, they hovered in the background, ready to sweep down, solve crises and offer new destinations. (Setooodeh) The Millenial generation is referred to as the “me, me, me” generation and grew up making the rules because their parents were not authoritative. Their lives are dictated by their smart gadgets and they are living at home longer.
generation different from your parents’ generation? Use specific reasons and examples to explain your answer.
One of the variables being examined in this paper, in relation to the following two variables, is generational differences. This term is used to define the age groups/ categories that people are put into (Costanza et al., 2012). The generations, in order from oldest to youngest, are as follows: Traditionalists, Baby Boomers, Generation X, and Millennial. Although there is no clear-cut answer to what the start and end dates are for each generation, there is a general idea as to what they should be around. Using a graph provided by Costanza et al. (2012), one can get an idea of what the cut off points should be. In order to give definition to the generations, Generation X falls in between the years 1960 to 1979 and Millennials fall between the
Generation Z is determined to change the future and is at an advantage over all previous generations to do so. This group is those born between the years 1995 and 2012, whom are currently ages 4 to 21. Statistics show Gen Z is extremely mature for their age with the lowest levels of drug use, alcohol consumption, smoking, and teenage pregnancy in decades, as stated by JWTIntelligence. This demonstrates that they are future orientated. Generation Z is unified, diverse, realistic, and technologically advanced, making them the generation with the power to impact the world.
The Millennials generation is widely known to be “entitled, narcissistic, self-interested, unfocused and lazy” as Simon Sinek (2016) said in his interview on Inside Quest about the Millennial generation. Essentially, he is saying that Millennials have issues that will cause them problems for developing in the real world. I agree that Millennials are not prepared for the real world and they do have issues. Sinek (2016) starts off by asserting the Millennial generation is unprepared for the world because of by four categories parenting, technology, impatience, and environment.
The interests ,food, habits ,slang , entertainment and also the way of thinking of the younger generation differs from the older generation. These changes are indicative of progress, Unfortunately, The older generation find it hard to accept these changes that make the gap wider. They differs in the way of dressing for example, the younger generation wear jeans and stay up to date in their style unlike the older generation .As the older generation has their own style according to their age. So the older generation might find these outfit inappropriate. Also the difference in slang and language fr...
