Throughout this essay I will be comparing and contrasting the three religions I chose. The religions I chose are Christianity from the in class lecture portion, Scientology from the Western region, and Shintoism from the Eastern Asia region. For each religion I will be comparing their Gods, belief systems, rewards & punishments, and their prophets. I will first start by giving a brief overview of each religion and then finish by comparing the religions.
I will begin with Christianity from the in class lecture portion. Christianity has four prophets that were born in Israel between 740-536 BC. Their names were Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Daniel. Christianity believes in one God; the “supreme being.” They believe that God is eternal and the creator of the world. Being the “creator of the world” Christians consider God to be the almighty father. Christianity is a theistic religion; this means a “Belief in the existence of a divine reality; usually referring to monotheism (one God).” "Theism." PBS. PBS, n.d. Web. 03 May 2014.” Christians believe in sin and that confession is the only way to redemption. They believe that those who sin and do not confess will be sent to hell. Each christian goes through a spiritual rebirth called Baptism. Lastly, christians believe that salvation only comes through God. When one believes in Jesus and does good work they will be rewarded with the afterlife and acceptance into heaven.
Next I will talk about Scientology from the Western region if the world. The prophet or founder of Scientology is Ron Hubbard. In the Scientology, there is no “God” They have what is called the “Eighth Dynamic.” The Eighth Dynamic is considered “the urge toward existence as infinity.” "Does Scientolo...

...f them are similar. Shintoism has no known prophet while Christianity and Scientology do. Scientology has only one prophet Ron Hubbard while Christianity has four. Christianity's four prophets are Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Daniel.
As you can see each religion differs in many different ways. I believe they are all different because they each come from a very separate part of the world and also, from different time periods. While some aspects from each religion are the same, this gives you the idea that each religion is not completely original and that they all influence each other in one way or another.

The origins of Shinto and Judaism are rich in history, yet it is the steadfast strength of their belief systems that are most fascinating. While the beliefs of most religions will evolve with time, the core beliefs of these two religions seem impervious to the cultural and generational changes in modern times. In fact, their belief systems seem to be the very foundations of which their cultures were originally built upon In exploring the completely diverse beliefs of Shinto and Judaism, an appreciation for the longevity of each is undeniable.

The history of Scientology shows its persistence to keep their members with the promise of spiritual enlightenment. Scientology was founded in the mid-twentieth century by renowned science-fiction author L Ron Hubbard. (Sweeney) The basic foundation of the church stems from the ideas of his best-selling book, Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health. (Anderson) Dianetics was published on May 9, 1950, and the date would become recognized among Scientologists as a religious holiday. Hubbard claimed that the discovery of the science of dianetics is “a milestone for Man comparable to his discovery of fire and superior to his inventions of the wheel and the arch” (Reitman 58). The book’s ideas encourage humanity to rid the individual of any of their mental weaknesses (18). It went on to make its way up the bestseller list by the summer o...
Scientology has been a community surrounded by controversy since its beginning in 1955, and in my Religion seminar my partner and I choose to examine this pressing issue. After reviewing all of our gathered information I have concluded that Scientology is indeed a cult and not a Religion as they claim to be. One reason that I believe that Scientology is a cult is because they take peoples money, which is something a Religion should not do. There have been numerous cases of Scientology taking peoples money, with on incident where a person killed themselves with the rest of the money had left on them to show that Scientology had ruined his life. This is an example of how Scientology ruins peoples lives, which is something a Religion should not

So, can you say anything good about Scientologists? Well, they are snazzy dressers. Oh and Tom Cruise is one! And the person who started scientology also wrote that sci-fi classic "Battlefield Earth". What a great movie... :-|
There are many similarities and differences between Judaism, Christianity and Islam. There are also many differences that separate the three major religions of the world. This paper will delve into all three of them.
Within the past twenty years scientology has dominated celebrity culture. The religion has increased its celebrity following, and as a consequence has been put in the spotlight. Scientology is a fairly new religion that was founded in the 1950s by L. Ron Hubbard. Hubbard started his career as a science fiction writer, but one day when he was under anesthesia at the dentist he had an epiphany that inspired Scientology. He believed he knew all the answers to the universe, and he wrote Dianetics, which has become a guide book for the religion (Christian Century). Scientology focuses on the soul and clarity of the mind. In scientology the soul is called a thetan, and followers are required to “undertake the path of mental liberation with the help of another person, a spiritual counselor called an auditor” (Molloy). Auditing how scientologists free and overcome problems from past lives that their thetan inhabited. Molloy says, that scientology has roots in Buddhism and Hinduism because of the connection to past lives and liberation of the soul. L. Ron Hubbard set out to make a thriving religion that would grow and prosper.
Overall, I find that Scientology is merely another scam that was probably created for profit. Everything that I have read about it tells me that this was something thought up based on just another outlook on life. Everybody has their own opinions, but Hubbard's Religion just got widely accept due to his credentials and his popularity if you will. When you create something that is understandable yet unprovable and still therapeutic, how can someone with a weak mind deny it? I believe that's how such a wide amount of suffering people tend to accept Scientology as an Alt. Religion.
Many people have heard of the revolutionary new religious practice called Scientology. However, the majority of people who have heard of it, have little knowledge of the principles and practices behind the religion. In fact, there is a dark side behind Scientology, and much speculation that the religion is a brainwashing cult. Many people are opposed to the religion because of its secretiveness, its extreme methods of teaching and its alleged use of mind control.
Hinduism and Christianity are two religions that have been around for thousands of years. These religions have developed philosophies on certain subjects that can be compared in order to show their similarities and differences. Some of the main subjects that can be reflected upon are the paths to enlightenment or salvation, the religions' treatment of women, and the concept of the afterlife. This paper will give an analytic comparison of these religions through the discussion of these topics.
There are many religious groups throughout the world and the three largest religious groups are Christianity, Islam, and Nonreligious people who claim no religion at all. Under these three religions are other religions that basically having the same belief, but their belief may differ slightly. They all worship God, but in their own way, each having their own belief of salvation of how man is saved.
In conclusion I am arguing against the Church of Scientology and against their beliefs and what they stand for. The members who belong to this church signed up thinking they were going to make this earth a better place by achieving your own personal and spiritual goals. In reality, this church will control you mentally
Each religion has a different perspective but most important is where the religions generated from. Major religions started in various parts of the world.
The beliefs and methods of Scientologists may be easily laughed at by any sane mind. The “religion” has many cult-like activities and many unconventional needs and beliefs belonging solely to Scientology. An example of this is the very important one billion year contract. Members of Scientology who wish to be part of the “Sea Organization” must sign a contract for one billion years of service. The pe...
