A story or moment that defines me has to be in the 8th grade when I was about to embark on my grades class trip to Washington D.C. The story starts on Thursday, April 26th, 2012 when I'm called into the principal's office to see my parents and the principal waiting for me. At the time I did not know what I did but as we were talking my principal told me that I was kicked off my 8th-grade trip. My parents and I were shocked because I had not done anything worth being kicked off the trip. The principal labeled me a "flight risk" and said that I would not have behaved if I went on the trip. Later that day the other principal tried to have him change his mind since she was going on the trip and she was really good friends with my parents and knew me pretty well. …show more content…
He said that he would decide his final decision by Saturday night April 28th, around 10 pm. We were supposed to be at the airport to leave the next day at 6 am. However, the principal decided not to read my email and got back to us at 12:30 am on Sunday about 4-5 hours before my ride came to the airport. He said that he wouldn't change his mind about me going however if I wanted to I can come and shadow the high school for a day to compensate me. At that moment, my dad tried to get a full refund for the trip but since they bought the plane ticket already they said they can give us a half refund and didn't give the money to us until I started high school in a different school. The vice principal at the time heard what happened and took time out of his day on Monday, April 30th, to take me out to a restaurant because he felt bad and knew that the principal was wrong on what he did. When my class came back I found out that all the kids got in-school suspensions because of their behavior on the

What did Aristide the just and Cimon contribute to the Delian league, and what role did they play? Before the Delian league, it used to be called the Hellenic League led by Spartans who were fighting in the Persian wars, but then changed in 468 to 478 BC due to Spartan king Pausanius arrogance and ambition that angered the Spartans and insulted the other Greeks when he was set out to free Greek states under Persian control. Mentioned by plutarch “officiousness and absurd pretensions” was the cause of aggravating the Spartans and Greeks and his frequent contacts with the Persian king which led the Leonians to ask Athens to take over, which birthed the Delian League. Compromised of sea states led by Athens with their representative Aristide the
The first essay assignment of the class was a simple five-page narrative essay about any moment in my life that left a large impact on me. This
I thought he was right, that I had asked for this to happen, that I wanted it, and that somehow what had happened was my fault. When my roommates woke up the next morning I told them what had happened, not knowing how to feel or react at all. My roommates suggested that Washburn be informed of this incident as they felt the only way he would be stopped from continuing this behavior was for the police to get involved. I chose to report the incident which resulted in an investigation by Washburn Police and the campus Title IX officer. I felt forced to relive the entire event, multiple times, as they continued to investigate. It was eventually determined that the student broke Washburn’s policy and was asked to pay a fine and write an essay defining consent and coercion. The perpetrator remained a student at Washburn and we were in many of the same classes. The classes we shared were only offered once, so I was given the opportunity to decide the seating arrangement that would make me most comfortable and feel safe to continue classes. I appreciated that I was given control in this aspect of the process, as often throughout the experience I felt like all control was taken from me. It was frustrating that he wasn’t automatically kicked out of school, because I felt very threatened, unsafe, and always hyper-alert as I feared running into him on campus. I understood the legal process, but still harbored resentment about the outcome of the
A person does not experience many events that shape their life in a large way, whether it be for better or worse. I have had just one major situation that has sculpted me into the person that I am today. In February of 2008, I was diagnosed with a life changing disease; it would relieve me of the agony I had been experiencing for as long as I could remember, but also restrict my diet for the rest of my life.
Everyone has a story, a pivotal moment in their life that started to mold them into the person they are today and may even continue to mold you to the person that you will become, I just had mine a little bit earlier than others. When I was three years old my brother became a burn survivor. It may seem too early for me to remember, but I could never forget that day. Since then, I have grown, matured and realized that what my family and I went through has been something of a benefit to be and an experience that has helped me in deciding what I want to do with the rest of my life.
On my first day at Dunn Middle School, I learned that I had the gifted and talented classes, and assumed that discipline would be no problem for me. There was minimal chatter and the students seemed eager to learn. When I walked in on the second day, my co-op handed me a sheet of paper with the suspensions listed. This floored me, the infractions included fighting and sexual harassment. Over the next few weeks I saw that both out of school and in school suspensions were given a lot.
When the end of my 5th grade year had hit; A land mark of the most traumatizing event of my life was about to take place. My mom had left my father and took us along with her. Over the summer and a few addit...
At the beginning of the semester, my mom made me send her all of my spring 2017 class syllabi so that she could see all the work I would be doing in the upcoming semester. About a month into the semester my mom called me to talk to me about my politics and society “final paper”. Having only been one month into the school year I had not really thought of any finals for any of my classes. My mom told me that there was an available Alpharetta City Hall meeting later in the week and that I should attend it to get it out of the way for my class. I decided to do research on City Hall Meetings and came to the realization that the one my mom suggested I go to was probably the best one I could have asked for at the time.
This is because the school’s surrounding community has the belief that the quality of my school’s high school education is not up to par with those of other schools in the area. This viewpoint could have resulted for a plethora of reasons, but
I walk into the office. My principal asks me if I have seen my sister. I told him I talked to her on the bus but that’s it. He had a look on his face.
We headed down to the principal’s office. My heart was pounding. It felt like it was pumping more blood then it needed to pump. The time it took to reach the principal’s office felt like a million years. We were in the office and my teacher showed the picture to the principal. There it was; the inevitable. This was bound to happen. How did I not see this coming? Why did I just ignore my noggin? The principal said, “How ignorant! Three days of in-school-suspension.” My life was draining by the second. It felt as if I was thrown into a dark chamber filled with corpses. Now I realized to always listen to the authority. My life lesson learned: Take policies seriously. No matter what you say to get out of situations, policy always comes out first.
I walked very nervously down to the office, wondering why I was being called down, for what reason? I slowly entered like a snail into the main office, where i was greeted by the receptionist behind the desk. She said in a nasally voice, “ The vice principal would like to see you in his office.” I responded with an “ Okay.” I walked back to the Vice Principal’s office, i opened the door and saw the Vice Principal and a teacher aid sitting behind the wooden desk. “ Take a seat Scott, we would like to talk to you about the incident in the hall way yesterday after school, about the two girls who got in a fight.” Said the Vice Principal in a stern tone. He went on to show me the video recording from one of the school’s many monitoring video cameras. It showed not only the fight, and the wild spectators, but also me rolling around on the floor with my phone out, recording the fight and sending it on Snapchat for the world to see. I wasn’t aware though of the law that prohibits video taping of people that could damage their reputation, I was filled in on this by the Vice Principal and the teacher aid sitting beside him to his right. For this reason, I was given two days in-school suspension, plus a not so joyful reaction from my Father upon hearing of my punishment handed down by the school. I spent the next two days in in-school, as i mentioned earlier, being brought down my work from my classes, having sheer boredom rush over my body when i was finished and all I could do was stare at the paint chipped wall. This goes t show that Cell Phones might be true gems of our generation, but we shouldn’t use them like knuckleheads, because then you might up in the same position i was in, or maybe even worse. So keep the phones in your pockets when you see trouble, because trouble will then find you as
There is nothing quite like traveling, going someplace new and finding out more about the world and yourself. Anyone can become a traveler it just takes a little bit of faith and courage. Traveling across the world or even across the country is a learning experience. When you are a traveler you see how people live and how different cultures work. It is the best educational experience you could give yourself. You see how the world works in a way no one can teach you. Seeing different cultures and people help build the person you want to be. If you are a traveler the world influences you, because when traveling, you see the good and the bad, and you learn from the right and the wrong. I am very lucky that I am able to be a traveler and see this
My most memorable trip was the day I went to the Children 's Memorial Hospital to meet my baby brother. Meeting my brother was an indelible moment because I had never felt such happiness and love for someone. On our way there, I also got to create a bond with both my parents and learn how to be a better happier person. At the time I was sixteen years old and was going through a stage where I felt depressed and that’s why the day I arrived at the hospital to meet my brother I felt this warmth in my heart that made me feel happy again.
