Shi Chung used all that money to buy useless things like 100 pounds of gum to video games but has no TV to play it on. Shi was going to take the dog, run over to the fence, crawl under the fence, then run like Usain Bolt to wherever the cops wouldn’t find them. He couldn’t think of anything else because he found it that it was too hard to think with his inmates alway giving him trouble every time he got near them. They will push around and say “Why you touchin me foo!”` Of course Shi didn’t know what they were saying but he felt awfully threatened by their attitude but that didn’t matter because today is the day. The day he escapes prison and never returns. He woke the next morning in his ice cold bed made of metal and waited. He waited until the door open so he could go to the prison yard. He waited and waited until he heard the buzz of a bell and the doors flew right open. He rushed towards the door speedily walking past the prison guards trying not to look suspicious and then he started to go into full sprint. As he started to sprint the guards yelled across the rectangular prison “ HEY YOU STOP RUNNING!”. Shi couldn’t hear what the guard was because he was so fast he thought he broke the sound barrier. He reached outside and stopped. He froze dead in his tracks like if someone was pointing a gun at him. He turned his head upwards to the sky and thought… What was I doing again? He looked around trying to find something to remind him what he was doing. Then he saw the dog wagging its tail running towards the …show more content…
He stopped to rest panting like a dog with his tongue out breathing heavily. He then walked heavily like he still had the chain and the ball attached to his foot. He then found a nearby oak tree and sat down laying up across the tree. He then let go of the dog and untied the lasso from his mouth. The dog and Shi slept right next to each other for 5 hours and when they woke up it was dark. It was dark than dark. It was black. There was no street lights on or houses with their lights on or anything other than the cars passing by but, that was very rare. Shi put the lasso made of socks back on the dog, picked him up and walked downtown. There was a big clock tower in the middle of town hall and it read 3:00 AM. Shi thought it was suppose to be bright and sunny out but instead its dark and cold. Shi also didn’t know how to read time either. Shi was getting cold just standing around in the winter so he wanted to go somewhere warm. He thought a near by store would be open so he could stay in there then he heard a loud beating noise. It sounded like someone was saying the word bump really really fast. Then a huge spotlight shined down on Shi and the dog. A loud voice came down from the spotlight and said “YOU ARE UNDER ARREST ; PLEASE DROP THE DOG AND COME WITH US!” When Shi heard this he ran. He ran and ran and thought what did I do? He finally ran so fast the spotlight lost track of him and Shi hid behind a restaurant called Ponce de

Slowly the burden I had carried for many months lifted somewhat. My cheeks itched and when I scratched them I found tears. In that moment I understood the pain that accompanied crime and I hoped that I would never have to feel it again. I never did feel it again, for I never stole again; and what kept me from it was the knowledge that, for me, crime carried its own punishment.
Growing up Jack’s dad’s had a “keen eye for spotting criminals of all stripes was impressive” because he would always point out people that he thought were druggies, criminals, or ex-convicts. He would tell him as a kid that there is no coming back from certain things and being in jail was one of them (Gantos 7). “His eye “wasn’t perfect. He never pegged [Jack] for being one of them” (Gantos 7). Along with his dad trying to help his son not become a criminal his high school tried to help the community as well, In the town's high school there was a presentation where criminals came to share their stories and how they regret doing the things they did because doing the time and wasting their life was not worth it. Jack believed this to be useless, “What could they say that could possibly change my life? I was enjoying my life just fine. I wasn’t going to become a criminal. I was going to be a writer. And if not a writer, I wasn’t sure what I might do, but I certainly had no interests in becoming a criminal,” (Gantos 28). Little did he know that later in life he would become a prisoner

Through two metal, cold doors, I was exposed to a whole new world. Inside the Gouverneur Correctional Facility in New York contained the lives of over 900 men who had committed felonies. Just looking down the pathway, the grass was green, and the flowers were beautifully surrounding the sidewalks. There were different brick buildings with their own walkways. You could not tell from the outside that inside each of these different buildings 60 men lived. On each side, sharing four phones, seven showers, and seven toilets. It did not end there, through one more locked metal door contained the lives of 200 more men. This life was not as beautiful and not nearly as big. Although Gouverneur Correctional Facility was a medium security prison, inside this second metal door was a high wired fence, it was a max maximum security prison. For such a clean, beautifully kept place, it contained people who did awful, heart-breaking things.

It was a beautiful night. It was perfect for a walk. As I strolled further into the park a figure approached me. It was as dark as pitch so I couldn’t make out who it was. It was late; you wouldn’t usually see anyone at this time. My heart was beating faster and faster. The strange thing was I wasn’t frightened; it was just my heart beating rapidly. As the masculine figure approached, I began to walk slower. That was when I heard the voice.
