Recommended: Challenges social workers face today

Introduction The path to becoming a clinical social worker has been as rewarding as it has been challenging. I have enjoyed every moment of learning as it has helped shape me into the person and professional I want to be. My original career path was not that of a Social Worker but once I had chosen the path of becoming a Social Worker everything started to make sense. I felt like I had found a place to belong and a feeling of “rightness”. I feel I still have a lot to learn when it comes to being a clinical Social Worker. I feel that I am able to perform many different theories or practices but I have a hard time putting a name to the theory that I am using. Honestly, a social workers job is never done so I expect to be learning for the rest of my life. I want to be able to help as many people as I can with the work that I am doing in the most ethical and professional way. I feel that my passion for helping others and drive to become a clinical social worker fit the mission of AU and NASW. Going into the advanced years of study I feel like I have been adequately prepared to face the challenges ahead. I am not saying that I never could but if I did, I would struggle. This population is children. I have a very hard time with children. I am not a kid person. I do not even want to have children myself. I can work with children on a small scale but if my main focus was children it would take a lot out of me. It would require a lot of effort from me that would leave me drained. I would not last long in a child centered career. I struggle with interacting with children and understanding them.
