A Career As A Pediatric Physician Assistant

Even as a young child, I have always wanted to pursue a career in the medical field. Though my career aspirations started at being a pediatric physician, I have come to the conclusion that a job as a pediatric physician assistant fulfills my calling. Both of these jobs have similar duties, however as a physician assistant I can still see my own patients, create treatment plans/prescribe medication and be well compensated. However it only requires a master’s degree rather than attending medical school.

Sociology is the scientific and systematic study of social action and disorder and in my opinion, sociology is a very fascinating subject. As a pediatric physician assistant, knowledge of sociology can help me not only diagnose physical issues

with my patients but also to understand how they may contract certain diseases, how their parents’ culture may affect the health practices of the child and it can even help identify effective treatments. This class has covered a variety of subject areas from culture and socialization to humans and the environment. I believe that it is vital to know information on each of the wide range of subjects being thought as it contributes to being a well-educated individual. According to the American Sociological Association website, there are a few sections of sociology that could be applied to my career goal.
To begin, learning about sociology of the family helps the understanding of some of the most unrelenting issues of today’s society such as juvenile delinquency and domestic abuse. As a pediatric physician assistant I can look for warning signs for these problems and understand how my patients are affected. Next the section of children and youth applies to my profession because it is the main age group I would be dealing with on a daily basis. This section can help me develop a sociological perspective on children, especially in the theory policy and teaching, to better understand them. Finally the major section of sociology that would be applied to my career goal is the section of medical sociology. This section emphasizes the sociological development within the medical field and how it can be used in organize exchange of ideas, teaching the field and research and results. This section helps view the medical field from a different perspective, ensuring me accurate knowledge and comprehensive research.
