A Bug’s Life is a film depicting the fictional life of bugs such as ants and grasshoppers. In this movie the ants work together in a very systematic fashion to complete common goals. These goals consisted of harvesting food and protecting the group. The story main features an ant named Flik. Flik is a very innovative ant but struggles to put his ideas to their desired effects. He eventually destroys the colony’s food supply meant to pay off the evil grasshoppers. To rectify this he leaves the colony to find help. The group he finds then uses their unique skills to help the colony. Therefore, this movie is a great example of key contemporary management skills,

These functions are most used to solve different problems among an organization. A good manager knows how to draw from these specific functions to properly solve problems creatively. A manager must each day deal with a number of different issues. These functions then serve as a framework to classify the objectives a manager is trying to complete.
The planning function involves a managers vision on how he or she sees the goals fulfilled. To help make this vision a reality a manger engages is strategizing and setting goals in the planning function. A manager who is adept at planning begins the process by understanding his business environment. After understanding the environment a manger sets goals they see fit and then determine alternative actions for achieving these goals. The planning function is consistently involved because the manager must be constantly up to date with the work in the business.
The organization function simply involves creating an organizational structure for completing goals in a business. Organizing in a business also involves determining jobs for a specific project and deciding how to cluster jobs. A Bug’s Life is an animated Disney film that tells the story of how a colony of ants fight back against and overcome the domination and oppression of the bullying grasshoppers. When looking at the movie through the lens of Ewen’s theory about identity, several connections concerning identity are found between A Bug’s Life and The Chosen People. Furthermore, by looking at identity issues in A Bug’s Life under this new light, Ewen’s theory becomes incomplete. In the Chosen People, Ewen fails to explore the positive aspects of conformity, gender in relationship to identity or the correlations between tradition and identity.

Disney’s 1998 film, A Bug’s Life sheds light on the continuing inequality and injustices among social classes within a society at the meso level. The film's story focuses on a colony of ants rising to their potential and taking a stance against their long time bullies, the grasshoppers. Flick, the protagonist, is an ant that sways away from the norms(rules of behavior shared by members of a society and rooted in the value system), he carries out tasks in nonconventional ways, and as a result he is isolated by the rest of the colony. This is quite a normal reaction as the colony is held together by mechanical solidarity(social cohesion and integration based on the similarity of individuals in a group, this includes beliefs and values). In order to understand the entirety of a society, we must first understand each part and how it contributes to the stability of the society. According to the functionalist theory, different parts of society are organized to fill discrete needs of each part, which consequently determines the form and shape of society. (Crossman). All of the individual parts of society depend on one another. This is exhibited in “A Bug’s Life” through the distinct roles the ants and grasshoppers play in their own society. The two species are stratified in such a way that they each contribute to the order and productivity of the community. In the movie, the head grasshopper states that “the sun grows the food, the ants pick the food, and the grasshoppers eat the food” (A Bug’s Life). This emphasizes social stability and reliance on one another’s roles. The grasshoppers rely on the ants for food, while the ants rely on the grasshoppers for protection. This effective role allocation and performance is what ensures that together, the ants and grasshoppers form a functioning society to guarantee their survival.
He did not like that the ant colony had to work for the grasshoppers. He did not like that the Grasshoppers did not even do anything to earned that food. They did not even trade something for the food. Flik was tired of all that mistreat. This is an example, how some governments treat their nation with disrespect. The government at the end has prices of anything to have inflation. They want to control the consumer. They want to control, what the consumer buys and not to buy. The government wants the people to think that they need them to survive, but at the end it’s the government that needs the nation to survive. The government does not want people to think, if they start to think. The people start to ask questions, and if those questions are not answered, they start to rebel. The government can not afford that to happened, because who are they going to control now. Without the people, the government is nothing. This is just like in the scene of the movie A Bug’s Life. Flik says to Hopper, “these ants do not owe you anything’’, “We do not need you Hopper, and you know that.” After that, Hopper knew that he was in trouble. He should of made a fair agreement with the ants, but he decided that he wanted to control them. That was Hopper’s mistake.
He likes to think differently and is very intelligent trying to create more efficient ways to collect food but his ideas don’t always work out for the best so when he makes a mistake, which happens numerous times, all the other ants make fun of him. Every year the ants have to supply food for the span of the winter in order to survive but the grasshopper’s and their leader, Hopper, pay the colony a nice visit each year and take all of their food. Flik makes one of the biggest mistakes ever in his life as he accidently destroys the food supply for the following winter. Hopper and his gang arrive and find that there’s no food so he demands double or the colony will be destroyed. Flik feels responsible for his actions and he goes out on an adventure to find other insects to aid them to fight Hopper and his gang.
Monster is a movie based on a true story about an American female serial killer. Aileen Wuornos was a prostitute who killed multiple men for financial gain to support her and her lover Shelby Wall (her real life name being Tyria Moore). The real life serial killer was convicted of the murders and was executed by lethal injection after ten years on Florida’s death row in 2002.
The Pursuit of Happyness is a film, based on a true story, depicting the life of a black man who lives in the borderline of the middle class, before falling deeper into poverty while trying to support his motherless child. Chris Gardner and his son Christopher, portrayed by actor Will Smith and his own son Jayden, depict how the lower class lived in the 1980’s, and explored the hardships many Americans faced, such as homelessness, the job market, the breaking apart of a family, and supporting a family while living in poverty. The Pursuit of Happyness, a real life film directed by Gabriele Muccino, tells the story of a man and his family living in poverty, and how Chris Gardner climbed out of poverty through hard-work and determination, while showcasing issues that are still relevant even today.
The managers must set organizational goals aligned with the company mission. This will provide a strategy for achieving those goals. For example, planning can be seen at every level such as creating goals for sales as well as for the customer experience (Higgins, 1994).
However, in some cases we need to develop strategies for them to improve their efficiency, improve their machinery, install backup generation, etc. In these scenarios, a team is developed with the consultant being the project manager or point man. Therefore, these projects require the four functions to be followed so we can develop the best possible solution. The first function used is “Planning”, which allows us to outline a strategy catering to the specific needs of our client. The “Planning” function also gives us a time table on how long the project will take to complete, who needs to be involved, and how we expect to accomplish each goal.

Planning and organizing is another vital quality needed for managers. If manager can do effective planning he can really contribute in the long term progress and development of his organization. Proper planning helps in useful and efficient use of the existing resources of the organization. After planning if you are not able to organize the things, this can really worsen your planning.
The first function of management is planning. "Planning is systematically making decisions about the goals and activities that an individual, a group, a work unit, or overall organization will pursue." (Bateman & Snell) In my organization, planning takes up the most time. Objectives must be laid out, potential products must be examined and the timing and type of marketing must all be planned out before we provide our product to our customers. This function should be first and foremost to all individuals involved in the organization. Poor planning will result in your organizations demise.

Planning is a process that managers use to identify and involve goal setting and decide the best way to achieve the goal.(Bartol 2007) Planning connect the gap between where we do, where we intend to go. It predict the possible things to happen which would not otherwise happen (MSG 2012). There are several steps to the planning process, which are determine the goals of the organisation, evaluate the current position, consider possible future conditions, identify possible alternative actions and choose the best. Planning is the criteria thinking through goals and making decision to achieve the goal of the organisation’s objective, which requires a systematic way. Also objectives focus the managers how to achieve the final result as managers have to predict anything will happen, avoid the problem and fight back to competitors. An example of planning, which is the President Canon Inc Tsuneji Uchida and lead Canon Company become the no.1 in the global business (Canon.Inc 2011). Tsuneji Uchida has to understand what is the company objective and goal. First, make decision to protect the position and the aim of canon, improve the operation more diversity. Second, he creates the new design of camera and new technology, he plan to do these things to maximise profit.
